A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

On turnout maybe people are fed up with by-elections. Politicians crowing etc it’s too much.

Great. She has room for plenty of economic migrants in her two mansions and grounds. Crack on Cate.

She’s also got plenty of money so the impact on her can be minimised. She’s hardly going to be queuing in Lidl is she?

Exactly. Another 119 arrived yesterday so in the first week of October we've had 1739.
Cate has space in her gardens and the funds to look after them.

Yes it’s a bit old hat celebrities pretending their gated mansions are the same. Lineker another prime example.

Good morning 😁

Very relieved to see the by election result. Labour win but Greens increased their vote share. Turnout was slightly lower than average. ZP insisting that he will stay on as leader.

There’s some good analysis on the FWR thread. There’s a very left Your Party type guy who came second to Starmer last time and he didn’t stand, but told his supporters to vote Green. That mostly appears to have happened so that’s why it’s such an increase. Apparently this is a pretty mediocre result for them.

Badbadlabs · 09/10/2026 08:34

Just caught the Dan Neidle Rest is Money on CGT, increasing tax on small companies where they are mainly providing their labour….so tiring. £20 bin black hole - small limited companies have already had IR35 changes and this constant fairness narrative is blind to how they’re adversely affecting incentives. At this point you feel the govt is like a cup that can never be filled.

LuckyHazelFox · 09/10/2026 08:38

Glad I can say here, in this safe space, that I don't think the French riots are really just about education.

NancyThompson · 09/10/2026 08:48

Re the Holborn result, I hate it, but I would have hated a Polanski win more.
It was never going to be a result I liked though.

IR35 was really damaging for my industry. Scrapping it was in the Truss mini budget, so unfortunately it never saw the light of day.

Nothing could convince us to start another business in the current climate. There is no incentive to take risks.

I've reached the same conclusion. Difficult to spell it out on mn, but I know what you mean.

I'm glad chefs and Jeremy Clarkson are speaking out against starting businesses under Labour. More heavyweights are stepping in; that's how bad Labour are with stunting growth. Its all snowballing now.

Re the French riots, I think some of the participants are genuine, and there are some genuine grievances (although good luck getting those resolved with the state of public finances there), but it's gone way, way beyond that and been completely hijacked.

Reminds you something?..oh yeah, the Pro Pal marches. Good actors and bad faith players who know why they are really there.

Badbadlabs · 09/10/2026 09:12

They fundamentally don’t seem to grasp the point that someone supplying labour through a company is taking more risk…

The economy is seriously askew all round I suspect. The cost of living is hurting many.

Yes I think so too. I’m sure there are plenty of every day students protesting. Then some rioting and other stuff on top.

It’s also a caution on borrowing to the hilt. There’s no easy way out of their situation.

Female non-white politicians being attacked on here is practically a hunting sport at this point. Especially if they’re on the right. Kemi or whoever it’s constant.

Slurs on them being stupid, answering direct questions, not male sounding enough, whatever. Not looking right. Nasty stuff all round.

Well I don't see those threads very often but I'm appalled.

I guess feminism is only for WASP women.

If i do see it I'll report for racism.

It’s just the usual steady drip. Depressing but typical.

I’m sure you are right. The riots seem out of proportion to their stated cause. I suppose that is the case with most riots, the superficial catalyst is not the underlying cause.

I am not familiar with the French situation so I could not venture what is. I would be curious to know your thoughts, but don’t want to get anyone in trouble.

Neverstopwondering · 09/10/2026 13:36

The French protest / riot footage has clearly shown on many occasions Pal flags. They have been spray painting free pal on schools, monuments and anything that doesn't move, even the pavements

I think we can safely say that for many of the individuals this isn't about education. It is just a chance for those that follow the cause to spread unrest, destruction and be able to get away with it

It's systematic neglect of schools, housing, jobs. The batshit unions, retirement packages. Basically decaying system. You can't blame it on one thing.

My friend worked international wise car manufacturers in Spain and France. The problem with Spain is a communist government. The problem with France is the unions.

38thparallel · 09/10/2026 13:56

WTF! Okay, I know 46 grand isn’t much in the grander scheme of Labour spaffing money, but how can it cost that much?
