A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

This is Jenny Riddell Carpenter’s justification for her far-right black labradors in pubs comment. In what is quite a long article, she hasn’t made it clear why these blameless dogs and apolitical pubs and ale somehow represent the far right.

Ah so in a nutshell what she meant to say, she didn't have the wits to and without a week to come up with this waffle, which I suspect was a collaboration.

@NancyThompson wow, what has suddenly brought about this decision in S Africa? I read about the immigrants being chased out of the country earlier this year - as you said, it looked pretty scary.

I saw them being thrown out. I've no idea but it will get very bloody.

When you're in a hole, stop digging Jenny!

What a load of drivel. Its very clear in the recording what she meant. Her rural constituents will have their say at the next GE.

I'm disappointed that she didn't try to explain what her progressive vision of the countryside looks like, that would have been hilarious to read. 😂

Not obviously Labour-related, but some very weird shit going on in South Africa - a lot of illegal African migrants were recently repatriated (easily done when they were shit-scared of an organisation called March and March) - now suddenly South Africa has declared that there should be widespread asylum granted for what's reported to be over three million Pakistanis and Somalis.

Like wtf?

What is it with these absolutely bizarre immigration decisions globally that appear designed to infuriate the local populace?

I should say, the reaction is not going to be a wee group of men in masks throwing plastic bottles, it being South Africa. it's going to get ugly.

Thats madness.

Just seen a blindingly funny Crewkernegazette with Burnham, a tramp, Jack Whitehall and Billy Connolly. Put a smile on my face 😊

What's interesting here is that Jacinta x from March and March is saying exactly the same thing people in the UK are - I wonder if she too will be called racist?

https://x.com/SABCNews/status/2107767595235475849

The suggestion seems to be that the ANC is importing voters to shore up their lost voter base.

@justasking111 off to check that that out, I can always do with a bit of light relief.

My guess would be tower blocks in the park of a stately home.
In the 1970s a by-pass for Baslow was planned through the park at Chatsworth. Baslow didn’t need a by-pass but the council thought it would be one in the eye for the Devonshires to carve up the park, about which they, the Devonshires, could do nothing.
It was pure spite and it didn’t seem to matter to them that people from all around loved walking in the Chatsworth Park.
Then the oil crisis happened and the by-pass was shelved and then fortunately abandoned.

NancyThompson · 08/10/2026 16:08

@38thparallel that's shocking! And yet just the kind of thing I could see our current incarnation of Labour taking great delight in doing.

@justasking111 penny finally starting to drop there then. Tbf some of the MEPs were always wise to it but they didn't have the numbers before.

redange · 08/10/2026 18:28

The Labour Party want closer relations, to a country, countries in "Civil War" . What Pillock or collection of Morons give a country in Civil War 100s of millions of pounds and asks them to Prevent Illegal crossings. Though, perhaps the Labour Party look on in envy at the "progressive" ethnic Cultures involved in the Rioting ! Do People really want to go back in to the European Union, are people really that "Dum" to believe the United Kingdom would be Cooking on Rocket Fuel with a return to even closer ties ! What absolute Shit.

EasternStandard · 08/10/2026 19:45

I don’t usually get Burnham’s IG posts offered up but the one where he says ‘I get it’ then about putting cheaper fuel on google maps made me laugh. Fortunately the comments were similar.

Nuthatch26 · 08/10/2026 20:39

Evening all 😁

I've missed most of the news today. Heard on the radio that Burnham visited Merz today, but there was no press conference at the request of the British side. Why is he avoiding questions?

Got my fingers crossed that Polanski loses at the by election. Anyone but ZP. 🤞

<Rolls eyes>

Are they trying to pass the blame again? It didn't work out well for Reeves when she tried that trick.
Perhaps they should ask Google Maps to shows how much the treasury is taking per hour from each petrol station? Live and updated every 30 mins.

Me too, can’t believe I’m actually rooting for Labour to win. The Greens are pretty terrifying if they get anywhere near the levers of power.

Listening to someone now on the radio call it patronising guff.

I remember seeing a few posts on how well-received Burnham’s IG and social media was. Looks like that’s over, tg.

It wasn’t even Burnham’s idea or work. The competition authority proposed it in 2023, Sunak committed to it and Starmer continued it and made it law. In any case it was only ever meant to be a tiny open market, consumer information measure.

Burnham taking false credit, again, and exaggerating the achievement, again.

Yes interesting timing !
Just when geemany has sacked it's own spy chief we announce closer ties

DancingFerret · 08/10/2026 23:04

Cate Blanchett was on Newsnight just now putting the case for illegal migrants - saying the protestors represent only a few of the British public and that we're basically a welcoming nation (paraphrased). All perfectly timed in the wake of the outcry at the numbers who've steamed across the Channel in the past five days.

Great. She has room for plenty of economic migrants in her two mansions and grounds. Crack on Cate.

Yeah he doesn't fancy answering questions about rejoining the EU rn. Funny that.

Just saw him answering a few questions. He just said the greens were wrong to vote against a two state solution.
When asked if he would enter a coalition with the Greens, he failed to rule it out.

Good morning 😁

Very relieved to see the by election result. Labour win but Greens increased their vote share. Turnout was slightly lower than average. ZP insisting that he will stay on as leader.

Its an odd feeling, thinking this Labour Government are rubbish but at the same time being so pleased they beat the awful greens!

Im surprised at the turnout. I thought it would be higher.
