A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

1620 people (that we know of) have crossed the channel in small boats in the last 5 days.

That is high!

One of my pet hates is people who comment on stuff that they know absolutely nothing about. Or sometimes they start threads on things they know nothing about.

There seem to be a lot of them about these days…. Or are they bots?

Frightening numbers. In amongst all the depression, its been good to see Kemi on fire. Loved her gold shoes - quite sassy!

Thanks for this. He makes a good point. Frightening though if Burnham really does accelerate us towards rock bottom.
Some of the figures he quoted were jaw dropping.

I don't know sorry. I just clicked the link posted by Pacific and listened to it. I don't use apple and the link still worked for me.

@Nuthatch26 do you know the name of the person they’re interviewing please?

That is high!

The pre-winter rush I guess.

If this keeps up in the new year, we're going to have a summer of unrest.

Yes I felt the same. Some awful news and toxic headlines about the marches today. A nice chink of light and hope from Kemi.

I'm really glad she took on all this 'Englishness' bullshit that has been thrown her way.

I listened rather than watched so missed her shoes. Will Google. I bloody love how she dresses.

Sorry no. It was an essay rather than an interview, so just one person speaking. Sorry I can't be of more help. @PacificDinner might be along later.

@Nuthatch26 oh I see thanks.

It’s probably just KK waffling on 😂

I do listen to them on Spotify, but to be honest, I tend to avoid political interviews as well these days.

The Spanish lady from Madrid who was the catalyst for the protests when she was evicted two weeks ago has died. Reading that is just so sad and has really upset me to be honest.

strawberrybubblegum · 07/10/2026 22:12

Great policies from Kemi! Love that she's making the case for genuine Conservative values. Not sure why we ever let the Left lay claim to the concept of what's 'just'... and then to take it so far off-course! I blame Blair's flashy rhetoric.

The IHT change is particularly neat. That and the removal of stamp duty would remove a big tax injustice caused by the difference in house prices in different parts of the country

The other financial changes are really positive too.

It actually gives me a glimmer of hope for the UK, and for my family's future here. Only a far-away glimmer, but there's definitely light. I'll be watching to see whether it strengthens or whether it's stamped down.

NancyThompson · 07/10/2026 22:20

Not obviously Labour-related, but some very weird shit going on in South Africa - a lot of illegal African migrants were recently repatriated (easily done when they were shit-scared of an organisation called March and March) - now suddenly South Africa has declared that there should be widespread asylum granted for what's reported to be over three million Pakistanis and Somalis.

Like wtf?

What is it with these absolutely bizarre immigration decisions globally that appear designed to infuriate the local populace?

I should say, the reaction is not going to be a wee group of men in masks throwing plastic bottles, it being South Africa. it's going to get ugly.

Not an interview but an essay, just 9 minutes.

@PacificDinner thank you

38thparallel · 07/10/2026 22:52

@NancyThompson wow, what has suddenly brought about this decision in S Africa? I read about the immigrants being chased out of the country earlier this year - as you said, it looked pretty scary.

I honestly can't understand why. They don't have any education or skills we need.

Spain 1.1 million immigrants now, no jobs, no housing for Spanish people let alone immigrants.

Country after country letting down it's own people and in turn the immigrants. We're all going down the plug hole together.

38thparallel · 07/10/2026 23:18

This is Jenny Riddell Carpenter’s justification for her far-right black labradors in pubs comment. In what is quite a long article, she hasn’t made it clear why these blameless dogs and apolitical pubs and ale somehow represent the far right.

I'm not sure yet, it's just hit the news cycle/ social media really suddenly.

No, you've understood perfectly, and they seem to be there already, it's so odd.

No-one wants them. There was genuinely disagreement about eg Malawians or Zimbabweans, not everyone wanted them gone, they are also Southern Africans after all, but it would be pretty fringe to welcome the new lot. Who are entitled to benefits!

Reports of a boat earlier today just one mile away from the Kent coast carrying 33 male migrants. No one even noticed it was there until one of the passengers dialled 999, puzzled as to why someone hadn’t already been along to intercept the boat, ferry them in and get the kettle on.
