What everyday hassle do you wish someone would invent a solution for?

Leaving partners and children themselves out of it 😄 — what’s one thing that repeatedly wastes your time, costs you money or drives you mad?

Something you dealt with this week would be ideal. What would you want a product, app or device to actually do for you?

Have you bought anything to solve it already? What was still missing?

I’m exploring potential product ideas, so this is market research. There’s nothing being sold here.

Hate brushing my teeth…
A teeth-brushing chewable?

I was thinking this exact thing yesterday, before this thread existed! Do you remember those spiky soft balls you could get (maybe still can) in vending machines at stations - waterless toothbrushes you chewed. Targeted at walk of shamers on the morning after I think!

EDIT: I see the thread was actually started several days ago. In my defence it only came up in Active for me this morning 🤣

I would pay $100 for a gadget that peels and crushes garlic perfectly each time, quickly and cleanly and that isn’t a faff to clean and doesn’t leave bits of garlic paper everywhere. Around $80 for the same for ginger.

I saw this silicon tube thing on FB, and very sceptically bought one. It actually works amazingly well. I buy multiple large bulbs* at a time and do them all in one go, then into the food processor to chop. It stays fresh for several days in an airtight tub, and/or I freeze it in thin "sheets" in food bags.

(*Buy extra large bulbs = fewer small cloves)

Something that fully prepares me for bed. I imagine a TARDIS like thing on my stairs. I walk through it and come out the other side showered, moisturised, teeth brushed, flossed and jim jams on. I swear I'd go to bed earlier if I had this as it's the bedtime prep that's off-putting.

Yep all of this, I said the same thing up thread.

Something that sends electric shocks into DH’s arse so he gets up and pulls his weight.

Something to eliminate head lice. Not shampoos and potions to get rid of a few and then they come back. Not combs and conditioner that do work but take so much effort. Not checking every week to keep on top of them.

I want something to eliminate the little ba***s. What is their point in the circle of life????

We can consider getting humans to Mars and we can't get rid of a little louse!!

AInightingale · 30/09/2026 23:40

Some kind of GPS tracker chip that could be placed in the back of a cat's neck and linked to your phone. Would save a lot of worry. I think you can get them for collars now, but I don't like collars on cats. The non-breaking type are lethal and the safety-break ones would just track back to the nearest hedge where they'd managed to lose it!

You beat me to it. I have arthritis so it's painful too, even with an electric tooth brush.

I'd really like a bot that can talk to customer service bots/people for me and sort things out, following up if things don't actually happen. I am so tired of sitting on hold, repeating myself a dozen times, trying to get to the right option and then calling back because the promised action to resolve didn't actually happen.

Something that will clean out my fridge, freezer and cupboards for me. Dispose of any out of date food, keep track of what I've run out of (and put it on a shopping list), and stop the veg drawer from getting slimy.Blush

When my kids were small I longed for some kind of portal that would just apply sunscreen as they passed through.
So something really good that would male applying sun screen reliably on children. I am irish, and I have horrible memories of being burned, and was quite anxious about protecting my children (lived in brighton) so as well as being an absolute pain, I would have liked the reassurance that it was done properly.

Of course, now they are 16 plus, they let themselves burn sometimes. Still makes me twitchy on hot days!

I was just thinking about this earlier. I knit and occasionally mess up a line so have to unravel it. Trying to get the remaining stitches back on a needle is a nightmare, as is trying to sew through the line below with yarn to 'catch' the stitches before unraveling the current line. Something that solves that would be fantastic!

Put a needle to the right of your work BEFORE you start to unravel the row with errors in. Gently pull on the yarn. As the stitch unravels use the needle to pick up the stitch below. Repeat to the end of the row. No stitches are dropped because they are safe until you are ready to pick them up.
if you need to pull back more than one row then unravel until you have the last row you need to unpick on the needle. Get your needle ready to the right of your work and repeat the above.

That's always been unsatisfactory! Definitely looking for something much more reliable.
