What everyday hassle do you wish someone would invent a solution for?

Leaving partners and children themselves out of it 😄 — what’s one thing that repeatedly wastes your time, costs you money or drives you mad?

Something you dealt with this week would be ideal. What would you want a product, app or device to actually do for you?

Have you bought anything to solve it already? What was still missing?

I’m exploring potential product ideas, so this is market research. There’s nothing being sold here.

Something that holds my shopping bag open at the self checkout. I put it down, straighten the sides, make sure the bottom is flat - and as soon as the first item goes in the whole thing collapses. Infuriating!

I try and get for instance a four pint of milk one end something similar size other end and in the middle with boxy type cartons to hold it all up.

@PlumPlumb Your virtual PA idea stood out, especially as you've already tried combining ChatGPT and Alexa. What's one recent thing your setup still couldn't handle that you wish it had sorted for you? No need to share anything private.

I'm wondering about something where you forward selected emails or photograph letters, and it pulls out what needs doing, by when and for whom, puts dates into a shared calendar, and reminds you about unfinished jobs. If a later message changes a date, it updates the original rather than adding a duplicate.

Would that take enough off your plate, or would remembering to forward things just become another chore? Would it need to pick things up automatically to be useful? And with the work side, is the missing bit seeing when you're busy, or actually reading and acting on work messages?

Still just exploring the idea, not offering a finished service. Interested in what's missing rather than adding another app to manage!

Dental hygiene—interdental brushes, flossing and brushing. I have fantasised about tiny robots doing the work like those in iRobot 😂

I've already got ChatGPT schedules set up that manage quite a bit of my home life stuff for me - Chat GPT automatically reads two different email accounts daily and looks for appointments etc every day. I take screenshots of school stuff from teams and newsletters, and what I've ordered for school dinners and afterschool club bookings and ask chatgpt to use them to bulk add appointments into add the calendar. Another Chat GPT schedule searches for events related to a family member's self employment and updates them on the calendar as the dates appear on the Internet. It does a brilliant job of all of this.

My calendar is linked with Alexa, my alexa is linked with my Samsung family hub and every morning it tells the family what is happening every day and asks if we want to add anything else to the calendar or to rhe shopping list.

For confidentiality reasons though I can't connect it to my work outlook calendar (would literally be fired on the spot) so there is a gap I would like to fill where it suggests 48 hrs in advance that there may be a childcare issue at either end of the school day requiring a wraparound care booking. I can't see a way round that unfortunately so I'm stuck working that out manually still.

I would also like it to read my alexa shopping list, add all the items to my online shop and automatically find a delivery slot each week when I'm available for it to arrive. I've got a smart fridge connected to the family hub so in theory I could roughly meal plan each week and ask the fridge/alexa/Chat GPT to work together to determine who in the family needs feeding each day, what food needs to be ordered for when and sort it all out so all I need to do is be in as planned for delivery and cook whatever is meal planned.

It's not instant but buying a cloud 9 airshot pro hairdryer with the volumisers has changed my life. I can get lovely smooth hair (straight or bouncy curls) in under 10 mins from sopping wet. I've got so many different hairstylers (babyliss big hair, revlon one step, ghd straighteners, babyliss curl secret and remington hot rollers) and could happily get rid of all of them now.

Not tried them but I assume similar dyson/ shark offerings probably do the same thing.

Is.it like air wrap

Some kind of automated easy thing that helps have photos printed from a phone.

I would like a ski lift to drag me up the hill from the station every evening. It's not even that far, but there is no alternative and I hate it.

I’ve had the exact same thought about my station to home hill.

Instax Mini already exists

I want something to read all our emails, school newsletters, work calendars, text messages etc and basically be a virtual PA - highlighting in advance when I need to book afterschool club, reminding me about needing to buy birthday presents and all the daily life shit I have to remember.

I've set something up through ChatGPT and Alexa combined that does a pretty good job of the home stuff but it can't link in with work stuff.

Also something that laundered all the clothes and put them away folded and ironed in the correct drawers for each person. Fucking hate laundry. If it could also discard outgrown clothes and highlight that someone was short on leggings/ knickers etc I would pay half my salary for it.

You need the Baylo app it basically does this!

Photobot · 27/09/2026 22:53

A car concierge service. I hate everything to do with cars and car admin is the worst. It would:

  • automate tax payments and make any adjustments needed
-book and take the car to it's MOT -Regularly do minor maintenance like replace wiper blades, fluid etc, and valet it monthly -Look for new insurance annually and work out the best deal -Know whether the car actually needs the expensive repair or not

Basically make it so I don't have to think about it ever.

Springpartyideas · 27/09/2026 22:54

I need a magic washing fairy who folds and puts away the clothes

EponymousEponine · 27/09/2026 22:58

I need a robot hoover that can do the stairs. Apparently theres a few in the works but I need one now! And affordable

StarlightLady · 28/09/2026 06:53

Something to change the duvet.

badbunnysadbunny · 28/09/2026 06:57

Cure for the common cold

timoteigirl · 28/09/2026 07:08

Something to test my sweat for deficiencies such as the underneath of my smartwatch. Then I would not spend money or pop unnecessary vitamin tablets.

ScaredButUnavoidable · 28/09/2026 07:58

Sorting and folding the dry washing once it’s been taking off the washing line/airers. I hate doing it.

I’d love a machine that folds it into four separate piles of mine, DH’s, DS1 and DS2’s clothes!

And it would put the socks into pairs too!!

Squirrelsnut · 28/09/2026 08:01

Dusting. So boring.
A self-cleaning bathroom.

Popstarrrrr · 28/09/2026 08:05

Something that fully prepares me for bed. I imagine a TARDIS like thing on my stairs. I walk through it and come out the other side showered, moisturised, teeth brushed, flossed and jim jams on. I swear I'd go to bed earlier if I had this as it's the bedtime prep that's off-putting.

I would pay $100 for a gadget that peels and crushes garlic perfectly each time, quickly and cleanly and that isn’t a faff to clean and doesn’t leave bits of garlic paper everywhere. Around $80 for the same for ginger.

You can get frozen minced garlic in Tesco. It’s cheaper than whole garlic.

Putting duvet covers into duvets . My least favourite job .

I got a ‘coverless’ duvet 2 weeks ago for this reason. I’m still weighing it up, it’s definitely different. I will report back.

Craftysue · 28/09/2026 08:13

Injections without needles. I have to inject myself for my RA, I've been doing it for years and it's still painful and I always have a horrible bruise. I absolutely hate it.

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 28/09/2026 08:14

An app that translates the advertising crap on the front of cosmetics so I can understand what's actually in it and what it really does!

Openmouthinsertfood · 26/09/2026 22:28

I was just thinking about this earlier. I knit and occasionally mess up a line so have to unravel it. Trying to get the remaining stitches back on a needle is a nightmare, as is trying to sew through the line below with yarn to 'catch' the stitches before unraveling the current line. Something that solves that would be fantastic!

Have you tried putting in lifelines?

Theskyisthelimit9 · 28/09/2026 08:24

Cooking. There are lots of options and I easy meals but still find it a hassle these days. I used to be better; by I blame menopause and want to do as little as possible these days. Cleaning too but thankfully we have a cleaner twice a month and the rest we just do the basis.

Thank Goodness for the dishwasher
