What everyday hassle do you wish someone would invent a solution for?

Leaving partners and children themselves out of it 😄 — what’s one thing that repeatedly wastes your time, costs you money or drives you mad?

Something you dealt with this week would be ideal. What would you want a product, app or device to actually do for you?

Have you bought anything to solve it already? What was still missing?

I’m exploring potential product ideas, so this is market research. There’s nothing being sold here.

Dental hygiene—interdental brushes, flossing and brushing. I have fantasised about tiny robots doing the work like those in iRobot 😂

This. There is nothing as soul destroying as flossing

God yes, such an utterly boring waste (no pun intended) of time. I mean I know we have to, but god I find it so annoying! 😄 I suppose something does already exist for this - a colostomy bag - but obviously I’d not want to be in a situation health wise where this happened, so not sure I can think of anything that would save me from having to do it myself 🤔

Having to poop and pee on flights is such a pain! Especially if not in an aisle seat. When your seat neighbours are all asleep and / or plugged into wired headphones...

I try and get for instance a four pint of milk one end something similar size other end and in the middle with boxy type cartons to hold it all up.

I try to do the same, but the first item makes the whole thing collapse, at some point the milk feels like it needs a lie down, and the cartons don't quite fit the bag, leaving empty space at the side for the sides to fold further into. Aaaaarrrgghhh!!!!

I have heard good things on here about water flossers, which sound more pleasant (even fun?) than regular flossing. But my dentist says they are an add-on, not a substitute for flossing. Strewth.

I got a ‘coverless’ duvet 2 weeks ago for this reason. I’m still weighing it up, it’s definitely different. I will report back.

I don't understand this newfangled thing. Is a coverless duvet not just... A quilt?

Something I could record all the food I had in my house and it would compile a weekly meal plan that i could set to be a certain number of calories, or comfort food, or child friendly and it would then write a shopping list of what else I needed

That is something I've wished for for many years.

A voice activated AI assistant for Microsoft. So if I need the borders to change I can just say ‘make the borders wider’ or if I need all the fonts changed ‘make the body size 12 but the heads two sizes bigger and bold’.

So I don’t have to faff around all the time

Something that I can point at noisy phones, tablets etc that will instantly lock their volume on zero unless / until the user puts headphones on.

I don’t want noise-cancelling headphones, I’d be too worried about missing something important. I just want to be able to stop device noise.

Something to organise tradesmen, you put in what you need doing and it decides who is the most appropriate and cost effective, and books them into a slot in your calendar.

I've already got ChatGPT schedules set up that manage quite a bit of my home life stuff for me - Chat GPT automatically reads two different email accounts daily and looks for appointments etc every day. I take screenshots of school stuff from teams and newsletters, and what I've ordered for school dinners and afterschool club bookings and ask chatgpt to use them to bulk add appointments into add the calendar. Another Chat GPT schedule searches for events related to a family member's self employment and updates them on the calendar as the dates appear on the Internet. It does a brilliant job of all of this.

My calendar is linked with Alexa, my alexa is linked with my Samsung family hub and every morning it tells the family what is happening every day and asks if we want to add anything else to the calendar or to rhe shopping list.

For confidentiality reasons though I can't connect it to my work outlook calendar (would literally be fired on the spot) so there is a gap I would like to fill where it suggests 48 hrs in advance that there may be a childcare issue at either end of the school day requiring a wraparound care booking. I can't see a way round that unfortunately so I'm stuck working that out manually still.

I would also like it to read my alexa shopping list, add all the items to my online shop and automatically find a delivery slot each week when I'm available for it to arrive. I've got a smart fridge connected to the family hub so in theory I could roughly meal plan each week and ask the fridge/alexa/Chat GPT to work together to determine who in the family needs feeding each day, what food needs to be ordered for when and sort it all out so all I need to do is be in as planned for delivery and cook whatever is meal planned.

Could you tell me please how to link ChatGPT to your email? I love this idea!

I use the paid version of ChatGPT but I basically asked it if I could link my email accounts and it told me how to do it.

I would like a robot that makes and brings me a cup of tea in bed every morning.

I have a bedside teasmaid for this - best £70 I’ve ever spent

A small supermarket trolley that clips on to a pushchair. Walking to the supermarket is better for my bank balance, waistline and the environment. I can generally fit what I need to buy in the bottom of the pushchair and a small rucksack. It's just getting around the supermarket that's an issue.

I was just thinking about this earlier. I knit and occasionally mess up a line so have to unravel it. Trying to get the remaining stitches back on a needle is a nightmare, as is trying to sew through the line below with yarn to 'catch' the stitches before unraveling the current line. Something that solves that would be fantastic!

In addition to using a smaller needle to pick up stitches, there are a couple of easyish ways to insert lifelines in your knitting.

If you are using Addi interchangeable needles you can replace the cords with these. Then the lifeline can be added automatically as you knit, in whatever rows you like.

Alternatively you can use a tapestry needle to thread a length of fine yarn or thread through the stitches which are actually on the needle of any row as soon as you’ve knitted it. It’s much easier than threading it through a row lower down, and is the method I use if I’m knitting complicated lace.

Do this every few rows, and leave them in for as long as you like, so perhaps you have five on the go at once. It’s an insurance in case you make a mistake. If you do it regularly then it makes counting your rows much easier, too.

I thought many Addi interchangeables had a hole in the needle part so you could put a thread in that which would be knitted in as you work the row, but t’tinternet isn’t offering me that as a solution.

ADDI SOS - 3x Long Lace Cords Set

The lifeline cords allow you to mark and secure a line when knitting complicated patterns, if you need to unravel some rows. When knitting

A duvet cover with fastenings on three sides; so you can open it out flat and just lay the duvet on it.

You might be onto something here!
