Massive holiday cock up !

We’re on a ferry on our way to a small Greek Island and I was checking the accommodation arrangements. I have just noticed I booked from 23-30 October not September 😮. The booking is for a week and not refundable. This is so unlike me but what a bloody idiot !

I bet they sort you something out, if not there then with a friend. Greek hospitality!

Paxos is gorgeous. I’m jealous.

weeat · 23/09/2026 14:01

can’t help with paxos, but if you end up going back/going to Corfu then History House in corfu town is gorgeous and also cheapish. If you end up staying on Corfu Kassiopi is where i’d go and stay at the Solaris. i only suggest as it’s not far away by boat, and Paxos is small in comparison so maybe more likely to be full. good luck!!

So easy to do. If it makes you feel any better, I ruined my career by getting a date wrong, so it could be worse! Everything crossed for you 🤞

Really sorry to hear this... but would love to know more?!

AndAllOurYesterdays · 23/09/2026 14:11

I did something similar recently. I was booking a two week holiday with a change in location half way and realised a few weeks out that I managed to book them both for the same week. My blood ran cold when I checked the booking. Thankfully I was able to move one with no charge, but just wanted to say it's not just you!

Shouldgivethisup · 23/09/2026 14:14

Good luck! I can recommend Nandia apartment in Gaios. Alex is lovely. On booking.com, I was there in June. So convenient and about the same price xx

Notcookingongas · 23/09/2026 14:14

Love love love Paxos! If you head to the main town someone will be able to help you- everyone is so helpful. Don’t panic and enjoy your holiday.

I think people are missing the point slightly, OP doesn't care about finding a place to stay, OP cares that they have spent money and won't get it back.

OP also only booked 'non refundable' to save money. From this I deduce that OP is ok for money because OP is preoccupied with money, and saving money, and being refunded on things they have clearly deliberately booked as 'non-refundable'. I already feel a bit sorry for the owner of the accommodation tbh

Wow was this really necessary ! I made a mistake and have now potentially thrown a chunk of money away which is part of the budget for the trip. Yes I have been very about finding a place to stay too.

Personally I would pretend you hadn’t realised the mistake.. wait for them to go through the bookings looking puzzled and let them break the news to you! They will feel bad for you and try to sort it out 🤞

No rooms left unfortunately but the people were very lovely.

Are you on the beach tonight?

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/09/2026 14:17

Oh gosh. Good luck finding somewhere!

I think you are missing the point massively tbh.

Weirdly invested in the outcome to this story

TheDogsMother · 23/09/2026 14:23

Well here we are in entirely different accommodation and a bit further out but the hosts could not have been lovelier. They came to pick us up and have been amazing with all the information. Think we will need to hire a car now which we had ‘t planned to do but turning this into a positive we can really explore the island now.

Thank you for all your great suggestions and sorry to those who have had similar cock ups. It’s good to know it’s not just me.

Bear in mind that accommodation in October is a lot cheaper so even if they had been able to accommodate you it’s likely you would have had to pay a lot more.

Well you're a really nasty piece of work. Try getting out of the other side of the bed tomorrow, it might cheer up your miserable gob.

Breadcat24 · 23/09/2026 14:26

@TheDogsMother great news! have a lovely time

That’s brilliant news. Thank goodness for the internet and your resourcefulness! Is it just 2 of you?

Nottulip · 23/09/2026 14:28

Now enjoy your holiday!!

A call from this ferry is impossible but I’ve managed to get a message through. I can see from booking.com they have no availability but I will go there as soon as we arrive and throw myself at their mercy. DH sitting here as cool as a cucumber. My sleeping on Greek beaches days are many, many years behind me. Grin

Just because boking.com show no availability doesn't mean they are definitely full, worth contacting the hotel directly as soon as you can. Hope you get it sorted, too easily done when booking on line!

Definitely not just you, OP. Once forgot to cancel booking so lost £600. Turned up for theatre a day late once. Another time booked one night in hotel on non cancellable, but booked wrong night, so lost £100. These all yrs apart, I hasten to add, with many successful bookings in between 😃

Am envious of your holiday and very, very skint. Also, according to others, a nasty piece of work, so that's me told

There's really no excuse for being a cunt and getting it wrong in the process. Not everyone can cover a loss immediately.
