Massive holiday cock up !

We’re on a ferry on our way to a small Greek Island and I was checking the accommodation arrangements. I have just noticed I booked from 23-30 October not September 😮. The booking is for a week and not refundable. This is so unlike me but what a bloody idiot !

We once rented a bighouse with a great terrace on a Greek island we had been to lots of times only to realise once there that tge map had totally misrepresented where it was and was a very long way out of town up a steep and very slippery stone road in 40 degrees and with no lighting along the way - we stayed the first night , realised it was a total pain in the arse , went into town and rebooked an old school house bang in the centre - so that was1700 euros down the drain plus 820 euros for the new place - luckily we could afford it and still had a nice holiday -

The actual rental listing has mis represented where the property was?

@Youneedas not really, we or should I say I misjudged I would say ! And although it didn’t look far on a map I didn’t realise it was up a hill that was basically a very shiny stones road in hot weather and unlit

I once came out of Frankfurt station at 10 o’clock at night and started Google Maps to walk to my pre-booked hotel - only to find it was 8 hours walk away! I’d accidentally booked a hotel in Mainz instead of Frankfurt am Main, no idea how.

I'd say that's the perfect excuse to have another holiday in October too. I hope you get somewhere booked this time & have a lovely time

Well they are currently £260 up (OP paid £760) and they can resell the dates hopefully so will be paid again.

Resell the dates in October, last minute? How likely is that do you think? They are down £500.

I don't understand why people think they should be refunded because they are not staying in the accommodation for whatever reason. The fact is those dates have been reserved for them for months. Someone else might have booked during that period.

Are they completely full now? Could they offer you some of the dates you are there?

Not here to call you names or criticise as seems to have been a theme - just really want to understand the logic that someone who couldn’t afford to book the more expensive refundable option (and is now more concerned about losing money than having somewhere to stay), is ok for money??

We have stayed on Paxos a few times but the last time travelling back to the mainland the ferry thing kept breaking down and we missed our plane home. Hope you managed to have a lovely break though

I was implying that she was too tight to book non refundable (as opposed to couldn't afford it, since people who can't afford lovely holidays plus a tenner or something for booking protection generally do not book them in the first place) and furthermore unreasonable and possibly entitled to expect the owner to refund anyway. The evidence was thin but it was based on the fact that she seemed more concerned in the OP about the refund than where they might sleep

Could one of your friends or family use your October booking in return for half the cost?

Lots of accommodation doesn't offer a refundable option surely?
