What obvious adult discoveries made you feel a bit of a plonker?

What’s something you learnt as an adult that made you think that’s completely obvious and yet I have never considered that….i feel like a bit of a plonker?

Mine was when taking tablets, the more you drink with it the better it will dissolve. I think alot of tablets are testing with the assumption people will drink 250ml alongside it.

Pretty sure they didn't carry aquatic animals on the Ark during the flood of a lot more water. Also, the other animals in their twos were then meant to disembark and procreate, rather than jyst die next to the Ark. In reality, they 'd have probably just eaten each other, and you'd just be left with a couple of apex predators.

My car has adjustable seat belt heights. It's still not low enough to really stop the risk of me decapitating myself, though it's a little better. I'm a very average woman's height of 5'4".

Coming up to Christmas every year, Mum always used to buy a tongue, boil it, peel the outer skin off (that was our job once we were older,) then press it into an old biscuit tin (those round Danish butter biscuits ones) and place a very heavy weight on the lid to so it would set in a round shape, rather than uncurling. I am not that keen on tongue, because of the taste - its preparation doesn't bother me, though. But Dad always thought it a great treat.

I thought there was a small animal called a haggis that was native to Scotland.

That yellow dandelions and fluffy dandelions are the same dandelion, not different varieties.

They're all cucumbers. They're different varieties of cucumbers. Like you cantaloupe and hineydew and water melons. Plus melon and cucumbers and courgettes are all the same family, cucurbitae.

Tongue is a good bit of meat.

Of course it’s easy to get squeamish working with a whole ox tongue and thinking about your own tongue, but that’s when we laugh at ourselves.

I didn't know until long after I'd birthed three babies (two of whom are female) that baby girls are born with all their egg cells already.

Blew my mind that my daughter's eggs were made in my body. Literally never gave it a moment's thought prior to learning that fact.

Did your dad ever serve? The old ration packs, I still remember my dad coming home with them, were in gold tins which they did indeed boil in the can! Even the chocolate and boiled sweets came in a can,. Used to love them!

I do it because I don't want any of the tablet to start to dissolve on my tongue & hit my taste buds. Paracetamol is very bitter - other tablets also taste foul to me.

I was playing golf one clear summer day with another middle aged woman when I commented how lovely the moon looked in the perfect blue sky. She was totally amazed that the moon could be visible during the day and had never noticed it before!

That your child was once in your mother’s body (as an egg in your ovary when you were a baby in her tummy.) This blows my mind. I didn’t even know we were born with all our eggs.
