What’s something you learnt as an adult that made you think that’s completely obvious and yet I have never considered that….i feel like a bit of a plonker?

Mine was when taking tablets, the more you drink with it the better it will dissolve. I think alot of tablets are testing with the assumption people will drink 250ml alongside it.

😀 I had a Citroën 2CV which had central locking. You could reach all the locks from the driver's seat

Are you my sort of age because I recall those 2CV adverts in the 60s/70s, did it also have air conditioning, all the windows would down? Loved them, adverts used to be so funny at times, when we were allowed to be a bit naughty!

Ha! Ma had the first type. Very basic.

My Gran had a tin opener attached to the wall, that you crunched tins onto and then turned the handle to open the lid. (And then frequently took it off with bits that were still attached and dug a knife into the gaps and tried to prise the bloody thing all the way open)

Anyone remember those?

Yes indeed and depending an the quality of the house it would also take a lump of plaster out of the wall if one was too vigorous. My late MIL had a much older version of that vicious can opener, we told her never to take it outside as it would probably be deemed an offensive weapon.
There's a good reason for snipping two corners off a carton, the second one allows the liquid to pour properly and not glug, all to do with physics and air flow.

Those extra well endowed probably did, to prevent it dipping in the water!

That reminds be of an episode of, I think, Eurotrash that used to be Channel 4. One week they featured a 'well endowed' man, he was naked from the waist down and gave a whole new meaning to the phrase 'knock knee'd'. The following day at lunchtime a colleague had seen the same programme and wedecided that one it stood to attention it would probably take his eye out, the men sitting around were very wriggly for the rest of the lunchtime!

New Zealand is a village in Wiltshire

New York is a dodgy suburb of Boltom and also a village in Lincolnshire.

Billericay might not be in Ireland, but Ireland is in Bedfordshire.

I think Bolton must have its own dictionary, my mother used to say Stop skriking, if we were crying!

It’s weirder - that part of Northern England used to be a (pre)Welsh-speaking Kingdom calmed Elmet! So it was ‘Wales’, kinda… 🤣

There's Berwick in Elmet near Leeds, maybe that's the origin of its name.

It's actually Barwick.

Elmet was an old British kingdom of the 6&7 centuries, the one to hold out the longest against the Angles. It's roughly equivalent to current West Yorkshire. The Romans called it Elmetia and the name survives in a few villages in the area.

Am a 60 year old academic. My DD laughed at me when I was chatting about my a-log-a-rhythm instead of algorithm. Wouldn’t mind except I was awarded a digital champion award in my faculty!

I bet lots of adults blushed on discovering that Leeds Castle is not in the north of England. (It's in Kent.)

Theotheron · 04/10/2026 10:38

Lousiana is 30 miles from Texarkana.

These all sound like they should be part of a word puzzle 😁

If this doesn't pop up as a sequence on Only Connect, I'll eat my hat.
