What is your go to comfort food when you cannot be bothered?

What is your ultimate comfort food and what do you make when you just can’t be bothered.

I have a cold 🤧 and I had forgotten how awful they can make you feel. I was going to make pizza tonight - I can just make the dough in the bread maker but I not sure if I can bothered to roll it all out.

What is your go to?

Pasta with tomato ketchup and grated cheese

Tarkan · 20/09/2026 19:35

If I’m not feeling well then mashed up egg in a cup (preferably soft boiled but medium is ok too) with tons of butter, salt and pepper and buttered toast to eat with it is always my go-to for me. Was really easy to sort when my DC were little as well.

Pasta and grated cheese - really small pasta, like soup pasta, with a mountain of cheese layered into the bowl and mixed until it's melted. Crack of salt, loads of pepper. Full on comfort!

Cheese on toast…actually eating this right now with some sliced tomatoes on top, all grilled to perfection with a sprinkling of salt and black pepper. Delicious!

ArtichokeAardvark · 20/09/2026 20:00

Marmite spaghetti - just spaghetti with a bit of butter and marmite stirred through it to melt and then lots of parmesan on top. Heaven, takes 2 mins, and only one pan to wash up/ stick in dishwasher.

AmberVerdigris · 20/09/2026 20:11

Basically bread, eggs, cheese, tomatoes in some sort of combination.

Tomato soup with plenty of black pepper, Philadelphia on toast/toasted bagel to dip in.

Or a mature cheddar, lettuce, tomato and English mustard sandwich on soft white bread, with a few crisps on the side.

Or soft boiled eggs with buttered toast soldiers.

Greenandyellowday · 20/09/2026 20:12

Baxters French onion soup - could eat pints of it when feeling fluey.
Sainsbury's chicken broth soup.
Salt and pepper king prawns from my local Chinese takeaway, no sides.
Bread and butter with honey.
Dark Ryvita with thick butter on the holey side, with Black Bomber Cheddar (or similar - strong enough to make my under-eye area sweat) and piccalilli and/or pickled onions.
Mueller rice pudding, cold.

BlackCat14 · 20/09/2026 20:17

A whole Camembert with garlic and rosemary with fresh bread to dip in.

What is your go to?

Egg on toast, sprinkle of back pepper and coarsely ground sea salt.
Plum Tomatoes on toast with sea salt sprinkled on top and a knob of salted butter which slowly sinks into the tomatoes.
Or a bowl of hot cheese sauce, a jar of jalapeños drained and bunged in and a bag of Doritos!
Or Jordans Caramelised Biscuit Country Crisp with ice cold milk!
And if only I could have a bowl of Heinz Celery soup my life would be perfect!

B9waiting · 20/09/2026 20:29

Scrambled eggs (3 large) & a whole tin of Branston beans.

onlyhereforthefood · 20/09/2026 20:39

Cheesy beans on toast, or crumpets if I have them. Egg on top if I have any.

minnowonthesay · 20/09/2026 20:57

Grated hallumi on spaghetti with butter

Do you ever add cheese?

😂

Squirrel437 · 20/09/2026 21:48

2 slices of M&S White Boule toasted, buttered, thin slices of medium cheddar that slightly melts on the hot toast, a spoonful of nice deli coleslaw and eat like a toasted sandwich.

Or the same hot buttered toast with smashed avocado and a poached egg

Spaghetti with butter and marmite stirred in and a sprinkle of grated cheese.

Oo that sounds good

connie26 · 20/09/2026 21:53

I like the pasta and sauce packet mixes. Adding some butter and cheese to the mix makes it extra tasty and comforting.

SophiaSW1 · 20/09/2026 22:00

A packet of crisps and a babybel!

blankcanvas3 · 20/09/2026 22:01

Curry supernoodles and a chicken kiev. Can’t go wrong

SallyAnnDrivesACar · 20/09/2026 22:03

Absolutely no cooking. Crunchy nut corn flakes and milk.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/09/2026 22:09

As I type, am eating spaghetti tossed with sautéed tomatoes and garlic from the garden and finished with cream and crumbled goat feta. Cracked pepper and pink salt to season.
😋😋😋

I like giant pasta shells with passata. 😋

SinuousTendrils · 20/09/2026 22:32

Curry instant noodles with fried tofu and broccoli/peas
Yum

burblish · 20/09/2026 22:37

Crisps (especially maize ones like Monster Munch and Skips)
Hot buttered toast with whatever effort-free topping I fancy at the time (this morning was honey and ground cinnamon)
If I have some in the freezer, a bowl of my homemade dal makhani (think Dishoom house black dal but I humbly submit that mine is even scrummier)

fumingrightnow1 · 20/09/2026 22:42

Takeaway or pasta with mayo and grated cheese

Kickinthenostalgia · 20/09/2026 22:59

Jacket potato with cheese and beans. Shove the potato in the oven, wait about an hour and then add your toppings. Always makes me feel better.
