What is your ultimate comfort food and what do you make when you just can’t be bothered.

I have a cold 🤧 and I had forgotten how awful they can make you feel. I was going to make pizza tonight - I can just make the dough in the bread maker but I not sure if I can bothered to roll it all out.

What is your go to?

Toast. Things on toast.

Toast every time. Banana, peanut butter & banana, jam, lemon curd, cheese, sardines, mince, chili con csrne, left over bolognaise…. There’s nothing I wouldn’t put on toast!!!

Toastytina · 20/09/2026 14:45

Whisky honey and lemon drink and a packet of digestives.

Favouritefruits · 20/09/2026 14:46

Heinz cream of tomato soup and part baked bread rolls!

Fishfinger sandwiches. Easy and quick. Or cheese on toast.

AlgaeDreams · 20/09/2026 14:49

Butter and Bovril on toast.

INeedANewUserID · 20/09/2026 14:54

Toast

Tarkan · 20/09/2026 14:55

Buldak noodles, especially the pots as they’re much easier to make up than the packets. The carbonara flavour is my favourite and it’s even nicer since I learned you don’t need to add ALL the hot sauce when making it. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

pinkishtongue · 20/09/2026 14:56

If I’ve got dhal in the freezer I’ll have that with a mini naan (usually batch cook it) if not, beans on toast.

RedFatball · 20/09/2026 14:56

Packet mac n cheese.

iloveanearlynight · 20/09/2026 14:58

Spaghetti with butter and marmite stirred in and a sprinkle of grated cheese.

Titsywoo · 20/09/2026 15:03

Usually nice bread with loads of butter and pate
Pesto in instant noodles as they are quicker to cook than spaghetti
Flavoured microwave rice with bistro chicken gravy mixed in

Serenity45 · 20/09/2026 15:03

Cheese on toast with sliced tomatoes added after toasting.
Scrambled eggs on toast
Fried egg on toast
Ortiz or Rio Mare tinned tuna on buttered rye bread
Baguette spread with salad cream filled with rotisserie chicken pieces
Baguette as above filled with sliced cheese and red onion
Pasta with red chili pesto stirred through topped with olives, grated cheese and nice tuna
There's probably more!

I forgot to mention cheesy scrambled egg on buttered white toast
or a cheese and tomato toastie done in those old fashioned basic toastie machine that makes it into triangles.

basically cheese and carbs in any form 😂

Mine is also a cheese toastie done the old fashioned way in triangles but with caramelised onion marmalade - so good!

Stormyrose · 20/09/2026 15:06

Pesto pasta here, so easy

cheapskatemum · 20/09/2026 15:19

Dippy eggs with cheese on toast cut into fingers to dip in. For those that don’t like the term dippy eggs, substitute soft boiled eggs.

Pabbel · 20/09/2026 15:27

Fish Finger sarnie
Banana on toast
Potato and Leek tinned soup

MrsBatshitRatshit · 20/09/2026 15:29

Tomato soup with chunks of cheddar floating on top.

StrawberryMatchaLatte · 20/09/2026 15:29

I order a kebab or make beans on toast.

Summersongroses · 20/09/2026 15:29

M&S cheddar mash (or a baked potato smothered with cheese if I can be bothered) and a can of baked beans. Super comforting when you don’t feel well. Hope you feel better soon.

Grumblegrumblegrumble · 20/09/2026 16:10

Thanks everyone. I’ve just had a nap. If I could choose from these it would be mash and gravy. Unfortunately fussy kids won’t have toast. DH has a newly broken arm so I’m going to have to make something.

Like others my go to comfort meal is tomato soup with a cheese toastie.

However if I'm ill I will exist purely on toast with peanut butter and marmite and a Lucozade to drink.

DrDisrespect · 20/09/2026 16:20

Beans and/or eggs on toast
Mashed potato (from thr freezer) with loads of butter and pepper, possibly some bisto gravy
Pasta and stir in sauce with a mound of cheese

PinkLemons99 · 20/09/2026 16:21

Beans on toast or if I’m feeling really yucky, tinned veg soup.

ifonly4 · 20/09/2026 16:26

If I'm on my own and it's a main meal, then I'd often have jacket potato with cheese&beans or tuna. Alternatively, frozen fish in breakcrumbs and some veggie all cooked in same saucepan.

Whattheduck · 20/09/2026 16:27

Tomato soup with a cheese and onion sandwich
Beans on toast
Mushrooms on toast
Cheese on toast
Jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw or cheese and beans
Boiled egg and soldiers
Sausage sandwich
