What is your go to comfort food when you cannot be bothered?

What is your ultimate comfort food and what do you make when you just can’t be bothered.

I have a cold 🤧 and I had forgotten how awful they can make you feel. I was going to make pizza tonight - I can just make the dough in the bread maker but I not sure if I can bothered to roll it all out.

What is your go to?

Sliced tomatoes with crispy bacon on toast with mayo.

Gingerkittykat · 20/09/2026 16:33

Tinned tomato soup (I refuse to buy Heinz any more) with a white bread ham and soft cheese sandwich.

Macaroni cheese.

Mama tom yum noodles cooked with some frozen veg and an egg poached in the broth.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/09/2026 17:12

Pasta with grated cheese, if it’s just me.

If it’s me and dh and I really just absolutely CBA to cook, occasionally we have a Fray Bentos tinned pie each, just with frozen peas. Always keep a couple in for the purpose.

Definitely toast and if I have any, toasted soda bread.

theyneverchangedothey · 20/09/2026 17:20

M&S chicken in white sauce. Microwave wholegrain rice, microwave veg. If I’m ill, that’s what I’m eating. Takes 5 minutes and is immense.

Hotafternoon · 20/09/2026 17:21

Jacket potato with beans and lots of cheese and butter.

Crumpets with butter and marmite if making the above is too taxing.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 20/09/2026 17:25

Egg chips and beans with ketchup, salt, vinegar and cheap thick sliced white bread and butter.

Or if I really, really can't be arsed, it's porridge.

PoppopPopcorn · 20/09/2026 17:26

Soup and a roll.
Toast with jam, egg, tomatoes or beans.

SpottyAlpaca · 20/09/2026 17:36

Chow mein type noodles tossed in sesame oil served with stir fried onions. Add scrambled egg for protein & season well with pepper & soy sauce.

ViciousCurrentBun · 20/09/2026 17:42

Fishcakes with peas and bread and butter, tartare sauce.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/09/2026 17:43

I'm here for the toast brigade.

When I'm well I rarely eat toast, I'm not that bothered about bread and bready substances, but if I'm ill then toast, well buttered with peanut butter or cheese. A loaf of bread can sit in my freezer for months and then one 'not feeling well' week I can see the lot off.

twilightcafe · 20/09/2026 17:48

Hummus and toasted white pitta. Not wholemeal. Has to be white.

AlwaysExtraHot · 20/09/2026 17:51

Some of these are proper meals in my house, very much not ‘can’t be arsed’ food 😄

Ribenaberry12 · 20/09/2026 18:05

Tinned tomato soup. Always hits the spot.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/09/2026 18:07

Not meals for when ill, but ...

spaghetti dressed with good evoo & freshly cracked black pepper and then a generous amount of freshly crumbled goat's milk feta. Garden fresh cherry tomatoes halved and mixed in.

toasted whole wheat sourdough, butter and fresh tomatoes from the garden.

lamb chops marinated 2-3 days in the fridge in evoo, fresh rosemary, s&p then grilled to rare. Serve with boiled potatoes dressed with evoo, butter, chopped herbs of choice, s&p.

home-made cinnamon buns with cream cheese icing. Warm.

🤤

If it won’t shift and I can get out, Wagamama’s chilli chicken ramen. A cure-all for colds in my mind.

D1nnerthyme · 20/09/2026 18:29

Filled pasta with pesto and grated cheese or (don't judge me...) hummus
Or eggs on toast/in a wrap/as a sandwich (also with hummus...) hope you feel better soon!

durdledoris · 20/09/2026 18:32

French bread, thick butter, cheese and pickle.

whippersnapper55 · 20/09/2026 18:34

This sounds a bit weird but it's delicious and very comforting! Packet mash (that idaho one) with lots of butter, topped with tuna mayo. The contrast between the hot potato and the cold tuna mayo is lush. It's quick to make and easy to digest and eat out of a bowl with a spoon!

Tinned tomato soup. Always hits the spot.

This! With a cheese toastie to dip in 😋

didgeridid · 20/09/2026 18:38

I have loads but I love a chicken Kiev and croquette potatoes 😋
I also find a take away chicken korma comforting

Feel better soon 🤗

Spangers · 20/09/2026 18:40

Dippy eggs with marmite and buttered toast soldiers.

Jacket potato cheese and beans

I only want warm beige food when I’m ill.

LondonLass2026 · 20/09/2026 18:41

Heinz tinned ravioli. Lovely when you just can't be bothered.

MerlinsButler · 20/09/2026 18:42

Sliced tomatoes on toast if I really can’t be bothered or spaghetti carbonara.

Ilovelurchers · 20/09/2026 18:42

Pasta with butter and grated cheddar.
Cheese toastie.
