Goodness me, wasn't expecting that.

We don't that know he was disturbed at all.

It's frustrating that the mental health defence is pre-emptively rolled out for white, rich, successful men.

I'm sorry but that is just ridiculous and how dare you suggest that I'm defending him! In none of my posts have I defended his actions nor would I but if the man did what he is accused of, was a drug user with a previous conviction for running into the back of a cyclist and has now taken his own life, I'm amused that you can seriously suggest that he was anything other than a very disturbed individual.

This is obviously very sad for his child(ren)/family

But how the hell did he evade arrest all this time?

Almost certainly given protection for whatever reasons..wealthy & connected as it turns out

When you think of who is most likely to recognise him from the video - family and close friends - then it’s not that surprising really.

when it’s a random stranger people always say they’d share names if it’s their relative, but when it comes to it people generally protect their own. Look at the number of families who stand by rapists and murderers - we’d all want the name shared if it was our loved one hurt, but when your loved one is the suspect people go quiet and try and convince themselves it wasn’t them, or it wasn’t as bad as it seems, or it’s turned into a witch hunt…

When my brother committed a horrible crime the police were genuinely surprised that two family members reported him. They said it’s very rare.

Not everyone who takes cocaine or whatever is mentally disturbed.

And we don't know how he died.

So yes, your post does read as pre-emptive mental health defence of a very privileged man.

I don't think people turn out so evil if they are raised in a nice family, with decent people...

I can think of several men off the top of my head who had great parents and a privileged upbringing who turned out to be misogynists. Professional men, good careers, intelligent well respected popular men. They walk amongst us. You don't have to scratch very deep below the surface to find it.

I would hope not, but then my stepson does not use drugs either. A combination of PTSD and drug use could provoke mental health problems and aggression I'm guessing......

Maybe he was just a cunt
PTSD...mental health...stop giving arseholes excuses
You diminish what the victim went through

tommyhoundmum · 16/09/2026 19:41

Sounds like he was a spineless man who didn’t want to face any punishment. I will save my sympathy for the innocent victims.

He was a decorated Army captain

@ThatCyanCat No women flocked to him, unless you mean the teachers. You were at school; you were all kids, including him and the girls who were drawn to him. Kids/children/youngsters aren't known for their fantastic mature judgement...

I mean when we grew up and became adults.

He was an asshole as a teenager, then we grew up, and he was the same asshole. He did not magically change in any way.

Teens have poor judgement, but I expect 20-something people to be more sensible.

and getting married isn't difficult.

You know that's not correct, so why write that? A very large minority of men have few or no romantic relationships.

If you think only wonderful moral people have relationships then I can't really help you. I don't think I'd be drawn to someone who is still hung up on the boy who got lots of attention at school, or whose primary concern about this entire horrible situation is about the guy being married. I think he was divorced anyway?

A girlfriend isn't a reward for not committing crimes. From what I hear on here, there are not many decent men past a certain age pool, so it should not be too difficult to stand out.

I've suffered severe abuse in previous employment. I don't push women in front of traffic.

One of those arrogant London b*stards who like shoving women for no reason. Why am I not surprised that he was in court for riding a motorbike into a woman also? I’ve lost count of the amount of times men in London have shoved me - so nasty, and I don’t scare easily. The Putney Pusher story never surprised me in the first place - London is full of them.

I wouldn't say London is full of such men but shoving does happen - I've suffered only once thank goodness

About 30 years in Grosvenor Gardens near Victoria station around noon I was walking on the wide pavement, just a few other people around, when I could see a short, slightly built guy, 20-something, coming towards me walking quickly - not on a collision path plenty of room for everyone. As he got next to me completely out of the blue he barged into me from the side and said 'get out of the fucking way'!

There was no way that I was impeding him, just as with the woman on Putney Bridge, but for some reason out of the blue he had the urge to shove me. Because he was so slight in stature it didn't knock me off my feet but it was a very unnerving experience - totally unexpected and for no reason

Yes, that too is appalling. It's inconceivable that someone didn't know who it was. Awful too that had he eventually been found guilty, the fact that by not speaking out, innocent men were arrested and under suspicion for all these years, when someone could and should have come forward and saved them and their families from such an ordeal.

@ThatCyanCat A girlfriend isn't a reward for not committing crimes.

You are missing my point. The biggest validation for any man is success in relationships. Giving that this pig was an asshole, why was he able to have success in relationships? That's just validation for his awful behaviour.

From what I hear on here, there are not many decent men past a certain age pool, so it should not be too difficult to stand out.

That's not correct. The majority of men are decent and sensible people, and the number of single men on dating apps is vastly greater than the number of women.

Convicted in that he got points on his license (not the full amount) and a fine of a few hundred points - he thanked the judge and said he'd pay immediately (with a smirk, probably).

It's a shame for his family obviously, but my sympathies lie with the woman who almost lost her life that day.

Well yes. Let’s hope none of them come across this thread 🙄

Adolf Hitler was also decorated. It doesn't necessarily mean much about one's character.

You need to read my posts thoroughly and then either exercise some critical thinking skills or stop goading.

No I did not suggest that coke or any other drug was a blanket cause of mental disturbance although it certainly can be in those vulnerable.

I think most of us understand how the press are obliged to report the circumstances of his death.

No my post in no way reads as a pre emptive defence of this man's actions. What exactly would I be pre empting?

His privilège has nothing to do with his actions (if guilty) Violent behaviour cuts across the whole of society, from the poorest to the richest.

I would argue that those who can't control their violent urges by definition are disturbed.

Only this morning, a man on a bike cycled onto the pavement directly in towards me (a pedestrian) and then proceeded with accusatory mumbling towards me because I obviously didn't immediately make way for Sir Big Balls. He raced off when I shouted "Sorry? What did you say?".

My point is, I've had enough of these aggressive, women hating men. The posh ones are the worse. What the fuck do they learn at school?

I work with men at the other end of the spectrum. They have way more respect and seem to have no problem treating women considerately. Then again, they don't have a massive ego to feed. Also, as they're in very 'manly' professions, they don't seem to have the need to assert their maleness as they're already there.

You said 'Whether mentally ill due to PTSD, drugs, a combination of both or born a psychopathic nutcase either way the man was clearly a very disturbed individual.'

He could have just been an awful person.

But because he was rich and successful, people look for a reason to excuse him.
