To be fair, I contemplated buying a sim and number especially for this, but decided that trusting a totally random stranger with my number was a good plan what could possibly go wrong?

I was wondering about that. But then, if we’re planning to meet in RL, that will mean that we’ll introduce ourselves properly, surely, with our own names?

Only if we make each other contacts in our phones. I run my support group for relatives of alcoholics on WhatsApp. Those people I have set up as contacts on WhatsApp and have assigned a name to, have a name. The rest just show up as phone numbers. There is no reason why we should not all set each other up under our MN pseudonyms.

Ah, right. So if don't put BIossomtoes or anyone else in my contacts my number will just show on whatsapp messages? I only have my first name on it anyway, although my name is not massively common.

I’ve actually already introduced myself to Blossomtoes by my first name in my message, though it’s a very common name so not particularly identifying. It never occurred to me that we could simply retain our Mumsnet pseudonyms.

I’m on groups with odd names in them that can’t be theirs - so I think that works.

On OLD thread we recommend sharing whats app at meeting - I do it just before as logistics- but I think anyway we are a cut above the majority of what you bump into on dating sites ha!
