DH has been cross with me for weeks after I told a very pretentious friend of mine that he watched "Love Island" apparently he has never watched it, it was TOWIE and I got muddled.

Our first real proper argument about 2 years into our relationship was because we were meant to go travelling for several months and dh drunkenly decided to blow his travel budget on a banjo because apparently that was the moment when he really needed to take up banjo playing. 😂

I was not at all pleased and he experienced the full blow of all my displeasure. The banjo was duly returned.

I count that as one of only 3 or 4 proper arguments we’ve ever had in nearly 20 years together, so I think we’re doing okay.

😂😂😂 this really made me laugh!

One of ours was over our son’s haircut. He was about 6 at the time, H took him to the barbers, explained what he wanted but actually explained incorrectly. Barber did as asked, H failed to intervene. Worst haircut I’ve ever seen. I had to take the kid to a different barber to sort it out which meant it had to be cut really far too short.

When our children were both toddlers, DH and I had a massive row about whether Makka Pakka from In the Night Garden was male or female.

I cant even remember why we argued about it as we were both sleep deprived but I remember it got so heated we went to bed not speaking to each other.

Over Makka Pakka. 🤣

I think they are neither!

Perhaps justified (although I'm not convinced) but I wasn't holding the ladder properly because I thought I left the gas on (boiled eggs) and the ladder went completely sideways with my husband on the top rung and he landed in the back alley and said it was my fault

Mwahahahaha!

I once had a discussion with my late DH about a gnu which quickly and inexplicably escalated.

More info needed 🤔😁

mymswashing · 13/09/2026 00:37

I asked him to buy the corned beef with the ring pull and not the key as it’s easier
he refused as it was something like 5p more expensive
I said I’ll give you the bloody 5p
he refused
later on the key didn’t work, I had to go next door to borrow a tin opener as ours had broken. Which I knew, hence asking for the ring pull one

And I am prepared to bet his five fucking pence that he would not admit to having fucked up, right?

Lying to the cat ... not ok.

TMess · 13/09/2026 04:03

Whether or not flying through a country counts as visiting it.
found out I was pregnant the next day so thah explained why I was unusually livid but I still think I was right.

everthingisgoingtobefine · 11/09/2026 19:05

haha! That means I am right!!

I hope you’re going to show that to your husband to win the argument. It’s very important, even after all this time.

My husband and I get absolutely furious with each other around every summer because one of us thinks it’s better to be too hot and the other one of us is a normal human being.

Love this!
For us it is jam or cream on first.
One of us is a normal human being and the other one is from Cornwall😃

Mere1 · 13/09/2026 07:25

Ours is still remembered by our daughters who were present and 18 at the time. We are not Muslims but argued quite stubbornly about the direction of Mecca from our lounge window. No idea why. It’s occasionally still referenced.

Thewonderfuldollypartonsbra · 13/09/2026 08:34

Not me but my grandparents

They'd been married a few years and had my uncle (who was a baby) and they where moving into their first proper home (where I grew up years later)

It was the middle of winter, snow thick on the ground and freezing

They could only take one item at a time in the van,so it was agreed granny would stay at the empty house with then baby uncle (who is long gone now, this would have been the late 20's/early 30's),while grandad and the driver went to empty the other place

She told him over and over to bring the heater

He came back with a sideboard

Apparently the row was epic and long after she died years later,he would recount this row with a heavy sigh and the tone in his voice that he didn't really see what he'd done wrong!

It's known in the family 'the row that refused to die!'

Wistfullowlander · 13/09/2026 10:49

Ex once sulked and picked arguments for almost a week before finally explaining that I had upset him after a driving incident. Someone had cut across the lane in front of us and ex had shouted about it and, while I had vehemently agreed that said driver had been a dangerous idiot, a few miles farther on (and the idiot would have been miles away in another direction), I started talking about something else. This meant I had 'trivialised his feelings' about the incident.
This was one of many sulks. If I ever did anything wrong, he would sulk for days, no matter how sincere my apology was, but if he did anything wrong, he would refuse to apologise and then sulk because I had been unreasonable to be upset.
It's usually referred to as 'gaslighting' these days.

I’m with him on this! I hate it when people ‘jokily’ put down their partner in front of strangers.

It was hardly putting him down?! Not exactly a personal comment was it. If it was me that spilt a drink he would’ve done exactly the same.

CrocsNotDocs · 13/09/2026 11:18

He woke up in a mood with me because I was mean to him in a dream. He listed all the nasty things dream me did and seemed to be wanting an apology. I didn’t apologise, we fought and he sulked for half a day.

Allthebubbles · 13/09/2026 11:18

We once spent a rare night out- kids were small- arguing over the time it took to walk from our house to a parade of shops. It got so heated with neither of us conceding that we ended the evening walking the route and timing it, somewhat predictably the actual time was bang in the middle. I can’t even remember why it started.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 13/09/2026 11:33

When we first moved in together I noticed he had glitter on him and I got fucking raging and was like “who is the sparkly little fucking slapper” and all that …. Look closely at my body wash… it’s me I’m the sparkly little slapper. Not my finest moment.

Itsasecretnow · 13/09/2026 11:38

The wrong juice 😬

MirandaWest · 13/09/2026 11:42

The M18 incident. I was driving and DH starting going on about what I needed to do to join the M18. Given that at that point I had passed my driving test at least 25 years ago and had driven on many motorways I said that I did not need that help and that I would be silent for the rest of the M18.

So I was.

He felt the pain of my silence 😃

Still makes us laugh now a number of years later

To be honest it was back in 1993 and the details are a bit sketchy. But I know we'd been watching some sort of wildlife programme and afterwards I casually mentioned that Monty Python had done a sketch about a gnu. My DH said that they definitely hadn't but I was totally convinced they had. I then started to do very silly gnu impersonations whilst arguing my point. Before I knew it, it had become the most bonkers argument ever and would've made a good sketch itself.

Itsasecretnow · 13/09/2026 11:38

The wrong juice 😬

To add to this, the argument wasn’t even about the bloody juice! I’m sure a lot of people know what I mean? When the arguments are never really about the stupid thing itself!

FridayNighFeeling · 13/09/2026 12:08

The incident referred to as Buttergate, but I don't think either of us can remember the details!

Myli1 · 13/09/2026 15:49

Oh yes all the time. Just this week we were on holiday and heading off to the beach in the morning. I had no pockets as I was in swimwear and before leaving the hotel I had a €20 note and €4.20 in coins. I asked DP if we would need more than the €4.20 to buy some drinks from the supermarket on the way. This resulted in a massive row which lasted for two of the seven days of the holiday where I was accused of trying to limit the amount of money we were spending. I ended up at the beach on my own that day! 😬

There are few things I wont do to win an argument! haha!

Ha ha! I'm the same - didn't go quite as far as ordering the real test but we ended up doing the free one that's on the mensa website. I already knew that I'd likely win this particular argument, because I knew that this test was based on non-verbal reasoning which he just cannot get to grips with. He gave up after 30 questions and I ended up finishing it just to spite him. Not my finest hour, but I had imbibed several vodkas by that point.
It's also a sore point that I got a First in my degree and he got a 2:1 🤣

One of the most ridiculous things we argued about was Burger King about ten years ago. Every time we used to walk past he'd say 'I want Burger King' and I'd remind him he hates it. Anyway we bickered about it that much one day, in the end I relented and we went in.
Skip to thirty minutes later and we're walking out of Burger King with a voice note recorded (with his consent, of course) of him saying that he doesn't like Burger King. I have to threaten him with playing it periodically, even today 🤣
