Not sure if this makes a difference, but I am from Essex so have been bought up around imagine being quite important and I do love to look good, I was about 16 years old when TOWIE started so I have been bought up with that sort of lifestyle in a way, but I’m not to the extreme. I am still very natural looking, I’ve had 2 children and let myself go a little so I have decided I want to get back to how I used to be as I just feel so down about myself.

So currently I take mounjaro which I plan to only use until January, I no longer get my nails done as I prefer them looking natural now, I only get my hair done 3 times a year, I get Botox twice a year, I get nice makeup but I don’t wear a lot and use it rarely, I buy good hair products and I have just decided to get 1ml of lip filler to make them a bit plumper but this will only be once a year as I don’t like the fake look, I just like to look fresh and new! I don’t get any facials, I don’t spend on expensive face creams, I don’t wear designer, I get a lot of my clothes from vinted, body stuff etc, I don’t tan, I don’t have extensions either, apart from one time I tried them and they went horribly wrong, but working it all out I probably spend approx £200 a month on myself, probably a bit more at the minute because of the mounjaro which is temporary. My husband thinks this is outrageous and always comments on how much I spend, but I do work full time, I earn my own money but he is the main earner and earns very well but thinks I overspend.

The reason I am asking is because I am hoping others can say how much they spend each month on theirselves in hopes I’m not that bad!!! I get I don’t need Botox, don’t need lip filler, don’t need my hair done, but then I would just feel so unhappy in myself, and I enjoy pampering and I like to feel good!

Also not asking for judgement here as I know some people will just be dead against this. So just responses from those actually responding to what I have asked please. Thank you x

My monthly spend is high but we are both earn 6 figures and have one child at university so other costs are low. Soend is:

Mounjaro £300
Personal trainer £110
Gym £40
Nails £30
Curly cut every 6 weeks is £55
Pedicure every 4 weeks in the summer £45
Supplements - magnesium, biotin, omega 3 - £15 a month
Skincare and make up probably averages £10-15 a month
Clothes varies but have spent a lot on vinted as I have lost nearly 9 stone so that's probably £200

Now I have totted it up it's around the £800 mark a month. But that's in the context of a £10k a month family income and the gym is one of my main hobbies

Sunbringer · 05/09/2026 14:31

@Biosblbaylots of us don’t have £50+ to spend on a hair cut. And fine 1A-2A hair (majority of UK white women) doesn’t actually need that much doing to it as it doesn’t need shaping and just needs split ends off.

sausageth · 05/09/2026 14:31

Probably a good £200-250 a month. I get Botox every 3 months so roughly 50 a month, another 40 on eyebrows/dermaplaning, 30 on hair, about 100 on clothes.
I don't need any of it really, the clothes are mostly because I enjoy buying clothes.

endofthecorridoor · 05/09/2026 13:57

At least 300. Probably more as I use joint accounts to pay for haircuts and regular face creams an shampoo. DH spends less so pays for half my Botox bills or buys me clothes when I spend all my allowance. I have no idea how you would spend less. I don’t have wld or get my nails eyelashes eyebrows or anything done . If we are including gym yoga etc probably more like 450

Yeah, everyone who spends less than £300 a month must be lying 🙄

MyManinCaracas · 05/09/2026 14:33

Easily £200 per month average but I’ve lost 3.5 stone in the past year so I’m buying lots of new clothes and I don’t use vinted. Just in the past 4 weeks I’ve spent £120 on makeup and £250 on clothes. The clothes will be worn frequently and last for years.

mindutopia · 05/09/2026 14:37

I spend £18 on a body spray yesterday, which is quite a luxury. Unless you count toothpaste or shampoo and conditioner in big family sized bottles for everyone, I can’t remember when I last bought a beauty product for myself. I don’t wear makeup and the few things I buy are high quality and last a long time. Clothes are similar. I maybe last spend about £40 at the beginning of the summer. I am well off and have money to spend, but I’d rather be spending it on hobbies and travel and nice food.

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 05/09/2026 14:39

Varies, i buy nail wraps at £1.99 a set, sometimes I’m ordering 6-7 sets, some months none. Hair is £97 every 6 weeks.
New pot of moisturiser whenever i run out. Same for shampoo and conditioner which isn’t cheap as i alternate Colour Wow and Kerastase.
Clothes i usually use Vinted.
I wear basic make up, Boots No7, tinted moisturiser in summer, foundation in winter finished with powder and if needed a bit of bronzer.
Considering the Wegovy pill.

Very little. Probably about a tenner if you average it out across all months.
I cut my own hair - it’s short so just needs a set of clippers.
I don’t wear makeup, I don’t have a skincare routine. I have some cerave cleanser to wash my face and dynasty cream as a moisturiser. I don’t use it ever day. I only need cleanser at some points in the month, likewise with the moisturiser. I don’t like to use anything more than the basics because it feels like skin knows what it’s doing and if I mess with it then I’m stuck in a cycle of getting it back to normal. Wrinkles, grey hairs, etc all come with age, and I’m not scared of ageing. I’m 37 and this has been my approach to life since I was a girl. I’ve never been interested in spending my money to manufacture femininity. There’s so much else I’d rather spend my money on! 😂

I'm 61, cut my own long hair about once a year because I don't enjoy going to the hairdresser. Have never had my nails done, I just cut them. Don't wear makeup or use cleansers, just soap (my skin is good for my age though as I've always been careful about the sun). Do my own hair removal. No gym as I have a dog instead. No treatments. Maybe £10/month on supermarket self-grooming products? But I do spend a fair amount in fits and starts on clothes, I'd say over £100 a month on average, even though I also keep them for many years in most cases. I know I'm extreme in terms of being low maintenance for most aspects of my appearance, but how do people spend so little on clothes? Wearing them isn't optional, and mine wear out!

I try to buy quality fabric and look after them, repairing if they have small issues and wash them as little as possible.
I have a coat I bought in Next for £90 with my first student loan payment in 2006 that I still wear every winter. My gran replaced the lining c2010 and that lining is only recently start to look tired. I love the cut of the coat and have never seen another like it so I think once it can't be repaired any further I'll have a go of making it myself!

I have t shirts I bought during my A levels, I had a manic episode in 2010 and bought a lot many of which I still wear.
I switched to a desk based job in 2021 and bought some gorgeous lady vintage dresses for £30 each from their clearance section and they look like new.

Jeans and t shirts are the things that wear out the most. I have high street and supermarket one for pottering around the house and nudi jeans and better tops for nice days out.

Delphigirl · 05/09/2026 14:41

Skin & Me £30 pm. Hair cut and colour £600 3 x year (I know but it is only rarely and I've been going to the same salon in West London since I was 22). Eve Lom facial wash and daily spf about £175 every 4 months. A new mascara and eyebrow pencil about 3 x a year. Thats it. That's about £225pm

fancytoes · 05/09/2026 14:41

You’d be shocked if you saw me as usually no make-up and mum-bun hair. Difficult to work out a monthly thing.

£100/month Mounjaro
£250 botox every three months
£50 x 3 on pedicures only in summer (hands are ignored)
Make-up refilled only when empty so hard to work out but have mixed-expensive taste (Mac, Bobbi brown, Charlotte Tilbury, Clinique, La Roche Posay)
Clothes tend to be Zara price point
Shoes are addidas trainer price point, Chelsea boots tend to be a £3-400 investment
Do my own colour with a professional colour
£80? haircut twice a year
Exercise classes £50-100/month?
Handbags are classic £1000+ bought 10 years ago style and plan on using for life

Delphigirl · 05/09/2026 14:42

Oh you want clothes too
Well thats different
And I have to dress smartly for work. Probably £3-5k a year. But if I couldn't afford that I would do it for much less

fiorentina · 05/09/2026 14:42

I’d say at least £120-150 a month on hair, Botox twice a year, replenishing my Bobbi Brown level make up. Pedicures 3-4 times over the summer. I do my own eye brows, finger nails - v natural manicure. I did used to exclusively use Elemis products but found some good dupes when I decided to set up my own business rather than earn a salary and have stuck with those mainly.
I spend more on clothes. My DH wouldn’t really have any idea. If it’s not affecting our household finances it’s not a problem!

LoveToGiveAdvice · 05/09/2026 14:43

Nails - probably £30 because I don't do them regularly
Hair - £80 (it's £200 odd evey couple of months)
Massage - couple of times a year, so around £30 per month
Skincare - probably £100 if counting make up and hair products
Vitamins - £30 per month
Exercise subscription - £10
Teeth hygiene - £40 (£120 a visit every couple of months)
Clothes - probably works out £200 per month

Total of around £500, which sounds too high to me, but probably is correct.

MummyWillow1 · 05/09/2026 14:46

I have a chin length hair cut so maintaining that is probably my biggest expense - £80 cut and colour every 7-8 weeks.

Other than that I use Pixi toner - but the last lot I bought with Boots points so that was free 🤣

I then use Vaseline body moisturiser - but I class that as a medical expense as it means I avoid eczema flare ups. Ditto with my omega 3 supplements.

I use Aldi skincare, to that costs about £2 a month.

I use bar soap to wash so that is about £1 a month.

I don’t tan, get my nails done, have a PT or anything like that. I do pay £10 per month for a gym membership.

I pay for all this myself, if I couldn’t afford the haircuts I would grow my hair long and colour it myself (as I used to do until about 5 years ago when I got a better paid job).

ThunderThunderThunderThunderCats · 05/09/2026 14:47

If I could afford mounjaro I’d be on it, apart from that, I dunno a tenner on hair dye, tenner on face creams and body moisturiser, £3 on razors, fiver on eyebrow dye, £2 on Vaseline, and maybe £20 on clothes (usually comfy pjs cos I WFH 😂). So about £50 give ir take I guess.

Totally couldn’t be arsed getting beauty treatments, and what not done every month. I’m already busy enough I’d rather spend my free time doing stuff I enjoy.

AliasGrace223 · 05/09/2026 14:49

I’m 45, I have extensions which cost a one off for hair of £700 which needs changing every 12-18 months plus £120 re fit every 6 weeks. I do my own colour. Nails £35 every three weeks. Toes about three times a year at £30. Botox 3x per year at £250 sometimes I have skin boosters at £200 too. I have a gym in my building so no cost. I spend about £100 a year on make up and at least £400 on clothes. I probably spend another £40 a month on skincare and other products.

daffodilandtulip · 05/09/2026 14:51

Mine fluctuates as some things aren’t every month. £40 haircut every few months.
£30 order from the ordinary skincare every few months
£10 hair dye per month
£25 nails per month
£30 supplement order every few months
£100 Botox twice a year
£30 gym per month
Clothes varies - splurge on clothes at the start of each season - maybe a couple of top/dress/trouser each time. New walking boots each winter and new sandals each spring.

My initial thought was “nothing much” but it’s quite a lot. Don’t think it would have been 10% of that when I was a) not old and wrinkly and b) a poor single parent.

scoopsahoooy · 05/09/2026 14:54

Skincare probably averages out about £20 a month? Prescription retinol plus moisturisers, SPF etc - I only use The Ordinary so it's cheap. Nails are free because a family member does them but they would cost £30-ish every 4 weeks or so. Hair I'm very low maintenance, I get it cut about every 6 months and I dye myself at home every 6 weeks or so, so average that out at £15 a month say. I do at-home laser hair removal (but have had my Lumea for 10 years so doesn't cost anything) and I have an LED mask.

So £35ish a month, but would be more like £65 if I paid for my nails.

Clothes I don't buy often enough to work out - I am a more of a 'buy quality that lasts' Vinted bargain hunter and have bought nothing brand new for probably a year (with the exception of one dress I bought for a wedding, £75 but I resold on Vinted for £45) so don't spend a ton!

braaaiiins · 05/09/2026 15:01

I probably spend £50 between hair, clothes and the odd lip balm or body spray. I haven't had my hair cut in a year. I've never had my nails done and i don't wear makeup regularly. I've never had any cosmetic procedures done and can't afford GLP- 1 although I wish i could. I have never aspired to that kind of TOWIE look/lifestyle and probably never will at this point.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 05/09/2026 15:30

Monty36 · 05/09/2026 10:17

I agree with a poster upthread, the difference is when you are going to work or not.
When you go to work, you buy and spend far more on ‘stuff’. Hair, clothes, bags, cosmetics. It is a sort of armour you have. You have look the part.

When you stop you no longer need to so much. You get a bit peeved at how much the hairdresser costs rather than ignoring it. Although if I still lived near the best hairdresser I have ever known I would actually pay more for her haircuts and colour. But she was a one off. And I don’t live near there now.
You use what you have more. And only buy what you need or run out of.

I'm retired, and still spend the same amount as when I was working. I do it because I want to, not because of work!

WigglyPinkFlamingo · 05/09/2026 15:38

£120 a month on average to cover hair, Botox, nails and body waxing. These are obviously done at different times. Hair can be 8 weekly, whereas nails are 4 weekly. Waxing is 12 weekly. Botox every 6 months.

Clothes? I dunno.. maybe £750-£1000 a year. My day job is very hard on my clothes so I’m a jeans and Uniqlo tshirt woman. I spent a lot on my children, but we are very financially healthy and my husband couldn’t care less about how I treat myself.

TurkishShepherd · 05/09/2026 16:38

Hair: £30 every 2 months and £80 colour once a year (230)
Medical grade moisturiser, eye gel, retinol = £300 a year?
Hifu x 2 - £500 a year
Microneedling every 3 months? £240
Semi permanent brows = £250 a year
Make up/ daily tanning moisturiser - not much & mostly high st brands - £150 a year?
Supplements (collegen, iron, biotin) £200?
Whitening toothpaste £50 a year.
What's that - £160 a month?
Easy done and that's without any Botox, fillers, nails, hair or lash extensions etc. so I call bullshit that I'm anywhere near the most extravagant beauty spender on MN.

I work hard, I contribute the same % of my wage as DH to the family pot, and he doesn't get a say because my body is a dictatorship and I'm an adult who choses how to spend her own money.

henlake7 · 05/09/2026 16:56

Idk, maybe £200 total a month?

I cut and colour my own hair and when I do wear make up it tends to be cheap brands.
I do like buying clothes and shoes but mostly shop Vinted, Primark or sales.
I have a home gym so no expense there but I do but supplements which cost abit.events

TBH I think even treating yourself to basic 'treats' costs an arm and a leg these days. I recently treated myself to some nice conditioner from Superdrug. It cost £12 and set all the security alarms off in every shop I went in!😆 It might not seem alot to some people but those little things really do add up.
