Not sure if this makes a difference, but I am from Essex so have been bought up around imagine being quite important and I do love to look good, I was about 16 years old when TOWIE started so I have been bought up with that sort of lifestyle in a way, but I’m not to the extreme. I am still very natural looking, I’ve had 2 children and let myself go a little so I have decided I want to get back to how I used to be as I just feel so down about myself.

So currently I take mounjaro which I plan to only use until January, I no longer get my nails done as I prefer them looking natural now, I only get my hair done 3 times a year, I get Botox twice a year, I get nice makeup but I don’t wear a lot and use it rarely, I buy good hair products and I have just decided to get 1ml of lip filler to make them a bit plumper but this will only be once a year as I don’t like the fake look, I just like to look fresh and new! I don’t get any facials, I don’t spend on expensive face creams, I don’t wear designer, I get a lot of my clothes from vinted, body stuff etc, I don’t tan, I don’t have extensions either, apart from one time I tried them and they went horribly wrong, but working it all out I probably spend approx £200 a month on myself, probably a bit more at the minute because of the mounjaro which is temporary. My husband thinks this is outrageous and always comments on how much I spend, but I do work full time, I earn my own money but he is the main earner and earns very well but thinks I overspend.

The reason I am asking is because I am hoping others can say how much they spend each month on theirselves in hopes I’m not that bad!!! I get I don’t need Botox, don’t need lip filler, don’t need my hair done, but then I would just feel so unhappy in myself, and I enjoy pampering and I like to feel good!

Also not asking for judgement here as I know some people will just be dead against this. So just responses from those actually responding to what I have asked please. Thank you x

This is me monthly:
Mounjaro
hair - roots upkeep
manicure
pedicure
eyebrows - threading / tinted

Clothes - trying not to buy (M&S addiction) and have just discovered Shein!
and I still look a state! Am 54

Spending £200 a month is not an unreasonable amount ,pedicures, manicures haircuts all add up. The place i go to for a pedicure has suggested I go along every month and I admit I had left it at every 3 months. So I am going along next week. Treatments and products do cost so I would say your DH is wrong. I imagine he at least goes to a barbers. If he asks the men that are there I am sure some women pay far more and get a lot more done.

marmb87 · 06/09/2026 11:12

About £200pm averaged over the year, between tweakments, nails, hair and bits and pieces of makeup. Don’t wear a lot of makeup and like you, get a lot of things from Vinted. I also like to feel good and at almost 39, it makes me feel better in myself. And a lot my friends will spend the same.

ByPinkOP · 06/09/2026 11:14

I don’t spend a huge amount, as I mostly work from home. Would be much more if I didn’t. I don’t think £200 is too bad and I have never considered myself high maintenance. I have coloured hair and wear a bit of makeup and that’s it. Not sure how much I spend. But when I was blonde with highlights that worked out about £75 per month alone.

Russiandollsaresofullofthemselves · 06/09/2026 11:15

I get my hair cut about once a year. dye it ever few months. don’t really wear makeup unless it is a special occasion and don’t bother with skin care so really just whatever shampoo, shower gel, deodorant and toothpaste costs so about £15

AgnesMcDoo · 06/09/2026 11:19

Beauty treatments £0
make up £0
hair - £120 every 2 months
clothes - a couple of hundred twice a year
Toiletries - £10 a month

ladyofroo · 06/09/2026 11:21

My expenditure

Botox every 4 months £250
Hair cut every 2 months £85
Keratin hair treatment every 5 months £190
No gym membership fees as I run outside with the dog
Clothes - probably £100 every 2 months
Skin care - I tend to mix and match better brands like Obagi with high street brands such as Cerave so about £100 every couple of months
Makeup - £50 a month maybe?

I find self care very relaxing and I havent been on holiday for about 10 years for various reasons so the money I save on that, I spend on other things like the above

once you become a parent your priorities change and you often don't get a chance.

I'm wondering why you feel that Botox is necessary? You're still young.

Botox is to prevent wrinkles. When you scrunch your face you get creases all over your skin which then become wrinkles over time. Botox freezes muscles so that you don't get those creases when you smile and pull faces. I saw somewhere a picture of twin women maybe in their early 40s, only one of them was doing botox for the past 10 years and it really showed. I've been getting it since I was 33, had to pause at 35 because of pregnancy and wrinkles appeared within a month

SonnyHoney · 06/09/2026 11:27

Mid 30s.

£140 massages
£105 on blow dries,
£50 make up/skincare
£99 gym/spa membership
And a facial a few times a year.

I do my own nails, which I keep very simple.
Most of my clothes are from charity shops, car boot sales, Vinted, etc. I hardly ever buy any new clothes.

I think £50 a week, which you're spending, is more than a reasonable amount. You work hard. Why should you not be able to maintain what makes you feel like you?

Xx

BeardofHagrid · 06/09/2026 11:34

In a year I get two haircuts and replace whatever makeup and skincare items I need. Less than £100 a year I’d say.

On clothes I probably spend less than £100 in a year.

TheresGotToBeMoreToLife22 · 06/09/2026 11:36

At the minute I'm using wegovy (£179) plus paying for invisalign (£250), get my nails done every 3 weeks (£29), haircut three times a year (£450 total so about £38 a month) plus various haircare and skincare products (maybe £60 a month) and filler once a year (£500 so £42 a month) so total of £600 a month.

Who cares? If you can afford it, what someone else spends is irrelevant

SSea · 06/09/2026 11:36

Hair cut twice a year (a trim) so £140 total a year
a facial once a year (£70)
make up: total in my bag is about £45 and I replace that every 4-6 months.
moisturiser: Simple - wait for it to be on sale so that’s £2.50. Used to use Dermologica until I read Matt Haig’s notes on a nervous planet - well worth a read - and I switched back to Simple.
clothes: I don’t care for fashion and use Vinted a lot so I’d say maybe £50 every 6 months?

so to answer your question: very little and I’m happy with that. But if you have the finances and are fine with £200 a month, I’d recommend not comparing yourself and carry on :-)

never will use Botox, fillers or anything as want to age gracefully. Aging is such a privilege and I absolutely love my smile lines - shows I’ve laughed a lot in life and lived.

ladyofroo · 06/09/2026 11:44

oh I forgot filler - thats about £400 a year.

Maybe she means that she wants to and she feels like she deserves it.

Yes, that would make more sense!

Why is no one getting their hair cut or buying clothes, I just cannot imagine being fully 100% natural. I like wearing natural good makeup, nice hair and just feeling good. I probably could pass with the Botox to be fair, I am only 32!

Ultimately it's all about mainly what you can afford and how important this is for you. And that varies wildly, as you can see from this thread. What you do with your spare money is up to you. I probably fall in the middle - I do get my hair highlighted and cut every 6-7 weeks, my (very natural) skincare and makeup takes about 10 mins in the morning. I have a gym membership. I would never entertain Botox or other enhancements like that, but each to their own. I am 52, youngest kid is 15, I kept all this up throughout their childhood, divorce, eventual new partnership etc as it's making me feel better. Helped by the fact I always worked and earned my own money.

I get my hair done every five weeks - £100.
Eyebrows and eyelashes dyed every 3 weeks (im very fair). Legs waxed every 6-7 weeks. Pedicure 3-weekly in summer. Can't remember what those are.

Expensive shampoo and conditioner. Perfume daily. No fancy skin care routine - inky face balm, lidl serum, nivea moisturiser. Minimal make-up (tinted moisturiser, lip balm and mascara if im making a rare effort 😂).

I think Im quite low maintenance but that must easily be c£200 a month to answer your husband's point.

Yes this. I’m 35 and don’t consider my beauty regime extravagant but generally get:

  • brazilian, gel toes, eye browns done every 5 weeks (£65)
  • Hair cut x3/year (£55)
  • from recently Botox x2/year (£250)

I do use more premium make up (hourglass , Lisa Eldridge, Vieve etc) but not much of it. Skincare is typically ‘premium’ boots - Vichy, La Roche etc.

All of the above will easily break £200pcm. This is probably on the low end for my friendship group (most get their hair dyed, nails, facials etc too).

I also give myself a £200pcm clothes budget.

Finally, £40pcm on my gym/training app - I go x4/week and this provides the best return on investment!

I appreciate for many people this will be a lot. If I had to cut right back it would be gym, decent spf and regular eyebrows.

Newbie8918 · 06/09/2026 12:04

About £350 on myself I’d say.

Hair £200 every other month
Botox £350 every 6 months
nails £100 ish per month
cosmetics (hair products, makeup, face cream, hand cream etc) can depend on what’s ran out etc.

I will buy clothes, shoes as needed so it can fluctuate.

I don’t think the point is the value spent. Can be you afford it? Is it from your own money, rather than the ‘family’ money etc?

beautifuldaytosavelives · 06/09/2026 12:08

I pay for hair and brows, occasional facial or massage as a gift. Nothing high end, but if I totalled it up, I’m fairly certain it would come to over £200 a month. I’d like WLI and some tweakments and just cant afford them. Your husband is clueless.

smallglassbottle · 06/09/2026 12:10

Probably about £20, including toothpaste. I don't like going to the hairdressers and I'm allergic to all beauty products. I buy the odd clothing item from vinted or eBay. I only buy medicated shampoo and dove bar soap.

I’m curious as to why you’d lose the gym if you had to cut back, when you said yourself it’s the best return for the investment! (It’s also the only thing on your list that benefits health).

Perhaps because you don't have to be a gym member to keep fit?

I go running with my dog and have weights I use at home for example

But I dont have any way of doing botox myself

Of course. But I know from plenty of experience that many people find it harder to motivate themselves to exercise outside of a structured environment. The fact that the PP views her gym cost as ‘the best’ return on an investment means that she she thinks it’s a better return than all the other things listed; so losing that before everything else didn’t make much sense to me.

PeanutCat1 · 06/09/2026 12:30

Quite a lot at the moment for me-

£300-Clear aligner system so this is only a temporary payment for now
£88-Weight loss medication, this payment will increase
£60- Hair (£120 every 2 months)
£56- eyelashes (£42 every 3 weeks)
£15- brow tint, wax & nails which I do myself
£50- Skincare & makeup
£60/70-clothes, accessories etc ( mainly due to weight loss at the moment - I do mostly buy good quality second hand items on vinted)
So around £629-639 for the moment which is a lot but that will come back down again at some point. We have plenty of money for our outgoings, cars, kids stuff, food and activities and we have no debts or finance agreements aside from our mortgage so it is affordable for us.
