Questioning the timing of Meghan Markle's product advert?

We’ve literally just lost Dolly Parton - an actual icon, a legend, and a woman who did more for children's literacy and charity than most governments.

And what does Meghan Markle do exactly FOUR HOURS after the news breaks? She drops an ad for her new "spiced apple butter." under her As Ever brand

AIBU to think there is zero chance this was an accident? She just couldn't stand the global news cycle not being about her for five minutes. Any normal, decent PR team would immediately pull a condiment launch out of respect. Instead, she deliberately pushed it through to piggyback on the trending algorithms and steal the limelight.

It is absolutely vile. Dolly was a total class act, and Meghan is literally trying to sell overpriced jam over her grave. I am just so sickened by the sheer, unadulterated narcissism of it. Tell me I'm not the only one seeing exactly what she's doing here?

Apple launched two new major products on the 25th August.

Garmin launched one.

M&S launched a retro chocolate bar “Coconut Grove” on the 25th August.

Starbucks launched its new US Autumn menu

Anthropologie and Barbour launched a new collaboration.

Fenwick launched its 2026 Beauty Advent calendar on the same day.

All in all quite a busy day for product launches.

I didn’t hear about any of them (not even the Apple ones) but I did hear about Ms Parton’s passing.

Is the point of this very strange thread to advertise for the As Ever brand?

What utter bastards, how dare they all not shut down their companies out of respect to a global and cultural icon singer.

The OP is the only advert for the spread I've seen.

SerafinasGoose · 28/08/2026 11:10

Things are going to change around here when school starts ...

Doubtful can’t imagine anyone would pay for someone to put all this effort into attracting a few hundred mumsnetters

We can’t buy Markle spreads outside the US anyway. It’s more likely to be a ploy around the craving for important-looking security on the taxpayer.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 28/08/2026 13:08

Farmfoods sent out leaflets with special offers on frozen veg, the inconsiderate bastards.

I really dislike the Harkles, but you need help. Unless Meghan is psychic how the fuck do you explain it? She posted about the release of a new product the day BEFORE Dolly died.

I think she arranged Dolly’s death to boost internet traffic (?!) on the day of her entirely unrelated product launch…

Sorry OP, this is a ridiculous theory - if anything the as would have been lost in the noise about Dolly.

This is actually true. I hadn't heard anything about MM's product before, now I'm thinking "Hmm, spiced apple butter, I might give that a try."

It sounds nice but I've already got Bonne Maman caramelised apple spread languishing in my cupboard, so I'd better resist

Yum, I loved Coconut Grove bars

InterIgnis · 28/08/2026 13:22

Anyone would think product launches weren’t meticulously planned months in advance.

Or just another typical SDS sufferer craving validation for their illogical hatred.🤷‍♀️

InterIgnis · 28/08/2026 13:30

I am enjoying the idea of Meghan Markle as a prescient angel of death though.

“There’s something special about the first taste of apple season, with its promise of crisp mornings and changing leaves just around the corner” - Quoth the Raven (As Ever)more.

JustAQuestion12 · 28/08/2026 15:38

I don't know what spiced apple butter is but I feel like I need to.

feathermucker · 28/08/2026 15:40

Imagine hating someone this much?

Uricon2 · 28/08/2026 15:50

This reminds me of the deranged thread where someone was ranting on about Taylor Swift's perfectly nice and appropriate tribute to Dolly and in fact her right to say anything, with special reference to her 'lack of talent'.

Oh I missed that gem. I bet it's the same usual deranged posters who just follow TS threads around to slag her off.

Meghan missed a trick and should have released some curry pastes exactly four hours after the death of Tim Curry.

You can put apple and spice in a curry. Fry your meat, fish, tofu and/or vegetables with ground spices and herbs and some chillies, vinegar, stock, tomatoes and a little fruit (anything from apple, raisins, satsumas, mango, coconut, pineapple), and you've got a lovely curry.

Do I get full RAVEC security protection now with woo-woo sirens and big guns?

nocoolnamesleft · 28/08/2026 16:10

I can’t see any link between Dolly’s death and this product launch. Is your theory that the product was designed in the four hours after the death was announced? Or that Meghan knew she was about to die? Or that she keeps a product launch permanently up her sleeve in case of a celebrity death? Have you any idea how bonkers you sound? It’s obvious that it wasn’t planned relative to Dolly’s death because it will have been utterly buried by it, and you’re probably the only person who even noticed it happening at all!

NerrSnerr · 28/08/2026 16:19

OnwardsAndUpwardsToCairParavel · 28/08/2026 03:12

Yes, there’s a similar post on AIBU about demanding to see photos of the children which of course no-one normal gives a shit about at all. A number of posters are pointing out that Meghan has herself already posted rather a lot of pictures of their children on Instagram, so the OP can fill her/his boots over there.

I do suspect it’s silly PR people firing off and playing games on MN.

These threads will then be cited by M&H as ‘obsessives on social media’ and ‘evidence of risk to our safety’ when most of it is their own PR games and British MNers just pissing about for a laugh.

I do agree that this post isn’t serious and it’s someone having a laugh. That doesn’t change that most of the Harry and Meghan posts on here are just mumsnetters having a laugh. There’s a huge amount of hate and criticism of everything they do. That is exactly what this thread is taking the piss off.

Posters talk about how H&M promote everything and always shove things down people’s throat. I love an Instagram doom scroll and they never ever come up for me due to my algorithm and I find everything out on here (including the dreaded Dolly insensitive apple butter).

The batshit ones are the obsessive posters on here- always have been and I’d be twitchy if I were them with so called ‘normal’ people being so obsessive (and often delusional) about them. It’s honestly mad.

ChannelLightVessel · 28/08/2026 16:23

Is it time for that beloved Mumsnet phrase: are you on glue?

GinGenie · 28/08/2026 16:36

This is quite possibly the most bonkers thread I've seen on here in a long time. OP, you need help. Seriously.

I'm not on Instagram. Meghan's photographs of her children appear very regularly on the websites of many newspapers that I look at, from the broadsheets through to the tabloids and other independent media outlets.

You can open, say, the Telegraph website and bam, there's a Meghan photograph of her children. I know they're from Instagram because the captions credit Meghan and her Instagram account.

Just another day in 'She must be a witch, burn her' world

Dabralor · 28/08/2026 16:50

Christ. No wonder Harry and Megan wang on about security and privacy so much with insaniacs like this about! Do you get out much, OP?

Apple Butter does sound nice and just the type of thing Dolly Parton would encourage us all to eat, bless her heart.

RIP Dolly, one of the very best of us.

Yes - the generic mob!

Obeseandashamed · 28/08/2026 16:55

This is ridiculous. I suspect the product launch post was scheduled way before knowing Dolly Parton died. People really do clutch at straws to tear this woman down. Not a ‘fan’ as she’s done nothing particularly of significance other than featuring in suits which I thoroughly enjoyed as a series but the hate directed towards her is unhinged.
