Questioning the timing of Meghan Markle's product advert?

We’ve literally just lost Dolly Parton - an actual icon, a legend, and a woman who did more for children's literacy and charity than most governments.

And what does Meghan Markle do exactly FOUR HOURS after the news breaks? She drops an ad for her new "spiced apple butter." under her As Ever brand

AIBU to think there is zero chance this was an accident? She just couldn't stand the global news cycle not being about her for five minutes. Any normal, decent PR team would immediately pull a condiment launch out of respect. Instead, she deliberately pushed it through to piggyback on the trending algorithms and steal the limelight.

It is absolutely vile. Dolly was a total class act, and Meghan is literally trying to sell overpriced jam over her grave. I am just so sickened by the sheer, unadulterated narcissism of it. Tell me I'm not the only one seeing exactly what she's doing here?

We are discussing the incredibly distasteful PR hijacking of a beloved global icon's death, and people on here are literally typing out emojis about how lovely the apple butter tastes on fresh bread. It is genuinely dystopian. You are exactly the target audience her marketing team was banking on when they refused to pause the launch today. As long as you get your aesthetic toast, who cares about the utter lack of respect, right?

But ... That's all your head.

Honestly, I think you need to get some help, this isn't normal.

OpalAmber · 27/08/2026 23:14

Wow, the aggressive swearing really isn't necessary, but I suppose it perfectly matches the maturity level of your argument. If you genuinely believe a woman who famously micromanages her entire public image just happened to drop a vanity product launch on the exact day the world is mourning a genuine legend, then I have a bridge to sell you. It’s not an "insane theory," it's basic, calculated PR piggybacking. Telling someone to get therapy just because they can see right through a cynical marketing stunt says a lot more about your blind devotion than it does about me.

You need help. An advert for an American food product is enraging you.

I think you need a media detox.

ItsTheCatsPJs · 28/08/2026 06:39

I go to sleep and we’re still going. Love it. OP have you had some rest now and realised your connection here wasn’t just tenuous it was non existent.

OnwardsAndUpwardsToCairParavel · 28/08/2026 06:36

It’s ok, I genuinely don’t think it’s real. Some sort of PR brain fart powered by a data centre perhaps. Nobody normal really thinks like this.

Actually, on reflection you're right, this cant be real. There have been loads of these stupid fake outrage thread recently, I can usually spot them (eg the uncooked burger thread) but it's a bit early in the day!

JustAQuestion12 · 28/08/2026 06:41

OliveMyLove · 28/08/2026 00:56

I think it’s a little overcooked, OP

This.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 28/08/2026 06:41

And here we have it 'the race card'.

Anyone throwing this term around is extreme right-wing, Trumpish / Reform voting.

If you want credibility @OpalAmber you need to decode your language use a bit.

BelleEpoque27 · 28/08/2026 06:47

This is how propaganda spreads, people. This thread is, obviously, completely batshit and probably just someone taking the piss. But this type of faux outrage is used against marginalised groups all the time, just completely made up bullshit, which ends up on people's algorithms and infiltrates a tiny part of their brain. And they start to have negative feelings about these people, because of the insidious drip drip of negativity.

I couldn't give two shits about MM, or the entire Royal family, but this is an excellent example of how social media influences people's thinking.

fancytoes · 28/08/2026 06:48

Hello, but if a stretch this one, and actually it’s a bad move for her as it would get no traction in a crowded news cycle. As someone in the PR and media world, hi-jacking her death would be:

‘I loved Dolly Parton, she once sang a song about apples. Speaking of apples, here is my spiced apple blah blah blah…’

Honestly, it’s OK to get worked up about these things momentarily, but then you really must step away, back into the real world, and as the kids say, go touch some grass.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 28/08/2026 06:49

Why does the rest of the world have to stop because someone has died? Legend or not. There will be millions of people who aren’t in in DP.

ChalkOutlines · 28/08/2026 06:51

Well… let’s put it this way. I knew Dolly Parton had died. I had no idea about MM’s jam until YOU started this thread. How’s them apples?

Slightyamusedandsilly · 28/08/2026 06:51

Do the individuals who start these hype threads get paid?

Backedoffhackedoff · 28/08/2026 06:53

God OP you’re so bitter. You should start recognising when you’re viewing everything through a lense of bitterness, you’d be happier more generally

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/08/2026 07:44

UnderMirkwood · 28/08/2026 04:32

But, but, where is the butter? I'm feeling short changed if that is really how you make apple butter. I was imagining an unctuous, buttery spread flavoured with apple and cinnamon and now I feel only terrible disappointment and sadness. Oh well, life goes on.

RIP Tim Curry and Dolly.

Ohhhh, you've made me think of caramel sauce with cinnamon apples over thick fluffy pancakes. 😛

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/08/2026 07:45

OhIHaveACopy · 27/08/2026 23:01

What you talkin’ about Willis?

Nobody is looking at her spread.

Nice throwback! 👏

KnickerlessParsons · 28/08/2026 07:57

OnwardsAndUpwardsToCairParavel · 28/08/2026 04:43

Indeed, it’s apple sauce with spice that mimics the spreading quality of spreadable butter in that you can spread it with a knife on bread products.

In that sense, you could call it apple marmite or apple peanut butter or apple marmalade or apple shit, I suppose. I don’t know what the EU would make of it.

We’re very much against calling things something they are not - eg oat/almond/soya milk is not allowed to be called milk.

I too am disappointed that apple butter seems to just be stewed apples in a jar ☹️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/08/2026 07:58

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 27/08/2026 23:23

This is their first post. We’re being trolled, people.

I appreciate the originality, though!

After re-reading, I agree. The level of outrage and detailed responses are the giveaway.
Likely a bored regular who decided to create a new acct for some clickbait fun.
Not a bad attempt at satire 👏

Sartre · 28/08/2026 08:00

Wow, people really hate this woman for absolutely zero reason don’t they? You seriously think she heard the news about Dolly and thought to herself “now is the perfect time to let the world know about my jam!”

Lets apply Occam’s razor, the post was almost definitely scheduled to drop at a certain time as pretty much every celeb/influencer’s are. They time it with the algorithms so it hits as many people as possible. Breathe and stop hating someone you’ve never met.

VieuxFort · 28/08/2026 08:08

What the fuck are you on about, OP?

Although thank you for this bit, ‘Any normal, decent PR team would immediately pull a condiment launch out of respect’ as it really made me laugh. Is it just condiments that offend you, or should there have been a global embargo on all adverts in the wake of Dolly’s departure? 😂

I suspect it’s a delightfully unhinged troll post but, I’ve even read out your OP to my son this morning. It’s given us much mirth (and a conversation about apple butter).

CurlewKate · 28/08/2026 08:20

This is too bonkers to be entertaining. Reminds me of the Daily Mail story of her trying to poison Charlotte with her wedding bouquet….

Screamingabdabz · 28/08/2026 08:20

I admit I cannot stand anything this woman says or does but to suggest she deliberately timed a random product launch around Dolly Parton’s death (which would be counterproductive surely?) is utterly batshit op. Are you ok?

Browbeeton · 28/08/2026 08:26

All these free publicity you have created! I’m intrigued enough to look out for it on the shelves.

Edictfromno10 · 28/08/2026 08:30

Lol. Think the OP might be on Megan's PR as not heard anything about it until they started the thread!!

Port1aCastis · 28/08/2026 08:34

I think you'd blame Meghan for everything if you could, leave the woman alone and stop the stalking. Plus you've just given her product a lot of free advertising in your effort to be a top Meghan stalker on Mn. Again quit the nasty stalking and find so something nice to do with your day

ThePM · 28/08/2026 08:35

OpalAmber · 27/08/2026 23:40

Missing the forest for the trees a bit, aren't we? Nobody thinks the jam is named after her songs. The point is about basic situational awareness and taste, dropping a heavily promoted lifestyle product the very day everyone is mourning an icon just looks desperate for attention, scheduled queue or not.

I wonder if you just think it’s heavily promoted because of your distorted algorithm? It is only on this thread that I became aware of It.

BTW I disagree that this was in any way deliberate, piggybacking, hijacking or similar. On the contrary I think this is you finding any old narrative to fit the conclusion, or more plainly you OP are the one hijacking Dolly Parton’s death for your own purposes.

Given that the function of your message was to encourage others to partake of your animus, I decided I would buy the damned. Spicy Apple Butter! Unfortunately the only ship within US, fortunately my SIL is celebrating a birthday soon and lives in California.
Happy to support people experiencing a particularly hostile environment. Boo to you.
