Questioning the timing of Meghan Markle's product advert?

We’ve literally just lost Dolly Parton - an actual icon, a legend, and a woman who did more for children's literacy and charity than most governments.

And what does Meghan Markle do exactly FOUR HOURS after the news breaks? She drops an ad for her new "spiced apple butter." under her As Ever brand

AIBU to think there is zero chance this was an accident? She just couldn't stand the global news cycle not being about her for five minutes. Any normal, decent PR team would immediately pull a condiment launch out of respect. Instead, she deliberately pushed it through to piggyback on the trending algorithms and steal the limelight.

It is absolutely vile. Dolly was a total class act, and Meghan is literally trying to sell overpriced jam over her grave. I am just so sickened by the sheer, unadulterated narcissism of it. Tell me I'm not the only one seeing exactly what she's doing here?

I hear you, OP. I saw Tesco had a special offer on shampoo the day after Dolly died. Cruel. We know Ms Parton wore wigs and we loved her for it!
Just rubbing it in.
(Actually I rubbed in the shampoo and rinsed well, but that's a whole other story).

OpalAmber · 27/08/2026 23:40

Missing the forest for the trees a bit, aren't we? Nobody thinks the jam is named after her songs. The point is about basic situational awareness and taste, dropping a heavily promoted lifestyle product the very day everyone is mourning an icon just looks desperate for attention, scheduled queue or not.

Now if she'd launched it on the day HM QEII had died, you'd have a point. But you're just being obtuse for the sake of slagging off Meghan.

HRTQueen · 28/08/2026 00:25

Op let it go

what ever Megan does you will find fault because you are looking for it

it’s really not healthy to be so angry and so obsessed by a woman you don’t know and who has no impact on your life personally

and I’m being kind when I say you need to step back as you are sounding deranged and people will be laughing at you behind your back

shockmethen · 28/08/2026 00:31

Nope OP you appear to be in a state where you link everything to MM.

DP died. Life goes on. The ad would have been scheduled and no it not possible to reschedule things everytime something happens. Another day you would say it was the disaster in Nepal or something Kate did or a shooting in Paris.

there is stuff going on every day.

Wow, the aggressive swearing really isn't necessary, but I suppose it perfectly matches the maturity level of your argument. If you genuinely believe a woman who famously micromanages her entire public image just happened to drop a vanity product launch on the exact day the world is mourning a genuine legend, then I have a bridge to sell you. It’s not an "insane theory," it's basic, calculated PR piggybacking. Telling someone to get therapy just because they can see right through a cynical marketing stunt says a lot more about your blind devotion than it does about me.

Sorry OP, but @LimpRatis right: this is absolutely batshit.

Yesitismeandiamcomingforyou · 28/08/2026 00:42

I guess the algorithms didn't work for me then, I had no inkling of the latest overpriced offering until I read this bilge.

TY78910 · 28/08/2026 00:44

McDonald’s UK launched their new menu the same day. I just CANNOT believe they would use Dolly’s death to sell more cheesy potato bites 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Call it batshit all you like, but completely missing the point is a choice. Nobody is saying she's personally responsible for a global calendar or pulling strings every second of the day. The point is that when a towering cultural icon passes away and the entire world's attention shifts overnight, rolling out a commercial lifestyle ad right into that news cycle is just painfully tone-deaf. You don't need to be psychic to read a room; you just need a shred of situational awareness.

sweetpickle2 · 28/08/2026 00:49

I had no idea she’d released this product (because if you knew the first thing about algorithms you’d know posting about it on a busy news day is going to get you less views and engagement, not more) but it sounds delicious so I’m going to go and investigate. Thanks for doing free PR for her and bringing it to my attention OP!

Ayarreet · 28/08/2026 00:55

"You don't need to be psychic to read a room; you just need a shred of situational awareness"

Quite.

2025MUM2025 · 28/08/2026 00:56

😂😂😂😂😂😂

Sensiblesal · 28/08/2026 00:56

I hope you feel better soon OP

Okay. You keep gnashing your teeth if it makes you feel better.

I think it’s a little overcooked, OP

chaosmaker · 28/08/2026 01:09

@OpalAmber what is the point of this thread? How do you know it wasn't because TIm Curry died? Your connections are tenuous at best and obsessive at worst.
Maybe find a new hobby?

PresidentDJT · 28/08/2026 01:10

I think Meghan Merkle is very nice and I hope she has a very nice life, she and her husband.

We should be focusing instead on THE ENTIRE COUNTRY OF UKRAINE, which held a YUGE party for the 35th anniversary of its independence JUST ONE DAY BEFORE Dolly died!! This is shocking and outrageous.

And Valensky still didn't wear a suit!!!

littleburn · 28/08/2026 01:18

Hold on , hold on … I had absolutely no idea she’d launched a product until I clicked on this post, but I do now! Is this the dark art of ragebait marketing??

DooDallyHallie · 28/08/2026 01:31

A famous person dies at least once a week, you doughnut! 😂

If it had been king Charles or camilla that had died you may have had a point but you really dont op.
It was clearly planned months ago and the posts the day before show that.
Take a deep breath, put down the phone and get some sleep
However apple butter is delicious. I had somw in jersey. Its quite easy to make and id recommed it for those with lots of apples. Especially nice on toast, in porridge, on scones etc. Thanks for the reminder of its deliciousness op

I am actually staggered by the responses on here. For those saying "it's just scheduled", do you honestly believe a woman who orchestrates her every PR move with precision just happened to let an ad slip out by mistake? Please. She knew the whole world would be online checking the news about Dolly's passing, and she dropped her little jam advert to capture the traffic. It's textbook. And let's be absolutely honest: if the Princess of Wales had launched a condiment four hours after a beloved global icon died, this board would be tearing her to shreds. The hypocrisy is wild.

I think you need therapy, you’re brainwashed by the media 😅

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/08/2026 02:31

Oh, dear.
Get off the sherry and get some therapy @OpalAmber
Honestly, your post is very obsessive and based in fantasy.

InterIgnis · 28/08/2026 02:37

Congratulations OP, on reaching peak levels of batshittery.

What about poor Tim Curry, fgs? 😭
It could be argued his death is being overshadowed by the iconic DP.
