When I was at primary school (late 80s) half the boys in the school had names like Darren, Mark and Lee. They would now be men in their late 40s/early to mid 50s but I don't hear those names much anymore. I can't remember the last time I met a Darren!

I sat next to a Tamsin in infants in early 70s. She’s actually pretty famous now Smile

hueylouieanddewey · 17/08/2026 12:42

In my 50s and still know loads of people my age with those names! Along with Davids, Matthews and Andrews

Tamsin Grieg?!?

Yeah. We were the top readers in the class Smile and went to each other’s houses for birthday parties. I changed to a different school for juniors though so not seen her since age 7 and I’m 60 now. I’d like to think she remembers me Smile

WearingBeautifulShoes · 17/08/2026 12:46

I feel like there were dozens of Carl/ Karls at my school but I can't remember the last time I met an adult one.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/08/2026 12:46

I’m in my mid 50s. Through work, relatives and friends I must know 20 Marks from late 40s to 60. The name will come around in a few years when their grandchildren come along and are named after them.

Cobrakainerd · 17/08/2026 12:50

Lots of Lee, Mark and Darren's in my class..all approaching 60..

ThankyouBakedP0tato · 17/08/2026 12:51

No-one calls their children Simon, John, Wayne or Stewart anymore either.

There were loads of kids with these names when I was in secondary in the 80's.

MidnightMeltdown · 17/08/2026 12:54

Darren and Wayne were the chav names of the 80s. They’re probably called something like Kaiden or Jayden these days.

Cobrakainerd · 17/08/2026 12:55

I guess another 20 plus years and they will reappear. The current Arthur's, Edmunds, Margot, and Beatrice and co were my grandparents names, born early 1900s up to 1920s.

AnitaCam · 17/08/2026 12:55

The current equivalent of Darren and Wayne is both those names combined into Dylan. Imho.

Think they migrated from private schools. Several Ollys, Joshes and Matts at private school ending 1999.

And at state school in the 2000s, early 2010s.

permanently · 17/08/2026 13:10

I really like Leigh and it needs a comeback

custardbonbon · 17/08/2026 13:28

My friend has a 14 year old Mark.

Mark is a nice biblical name unlike the other two!

DancingonmyOwn88 · 17/08/2026 14:34

‘Kirsty’ is a name that used to pop up lots when I was at school. (1990’s) You don’t really hear anyone being called Kirsty now. And there were a lot of Zoe’s but I know baby Zoe’s.

A lot of my friend’s mums seemed to be called Loraine.

Samantha.

There were two Samantha's in my class, two Joanne's, a Helen, a Clare and a Helenclare!

And a Tracy.

EveryoneUsingOutro · 17/08/2026 14:46

A wee bit older than you but we had several Marks, also plural Stephen’s, Graham/Graeme’s, a couple of Neil’s plus Fraser, Angus and Lewis (as I grew up north Scotland)

I know several Matthew’s in their 20’s.

A friend’s new GS has just been named John and everyone has said what a nice strong sensible name (her daughter is quite hippy so I think they were a bit worried what it might be!)

x2boys · 17/08/2026 10:55

I would say more early to mid 50s

Yes. DH is 53 and has two of the names mentioned in the OP as his first and (one of his) middle names. His other middle name is also of that time. He's not a tradesman but is ncredibly good at anything 'DIY'. I always joke that his three names pretty much cover all the boys with whom I went to primary school.

Darren and Lee are approaching their 50s now. They married Claire and Michelle respectively and their children, Callum and Ellie have just become parents to baby twins Arlo and Hudson

Haha so true

Iloveagoodnap · 17/08/2026 14:49

My 80s/90s classes were full of boys called Christopher and Ross. With a few Bradleys and Pauls. And girls called Nicola, Donna and Sarah..

Rondayvu · 17/08/2026 14:50

Also have a plumber called Darren 😁
Mark is a popular name among men I know in early 50's except one kid I know with that name who is about 11 years old.
Lee, I have three friends with sons called Lee, all around 30.

EveryoneUsingOutro · 17/08/2026 14:54

Oh yes Gary! That’s another one. And a couple of Robert’s.

AnitaCam · 17/08/2026 15:00

Aw, I feel nostalgic. I wish I could walk into a pub and be introduced to Gary, Lee, Mark and Rob. And their wives, Louise, Sarah, Amanda and Carol.

Actually I think there used to be lots of Alison’s too.
