What did you wake up to this morning?

EdinaTheConfessor · 15/08/2026 09:15

I was woken by my 7 year old crying because his 12 year old brother said he would give him £6 if he licked his feet. Then refused to give him the £6 after the feet were licked.

For the record I have enforced the £6 debt in the hope it will teach the 12 year old not to make stupid bets with his brother. FML.

What nonsense have you woken up to this morning?

The disappointment of rain being predicted for the first time in 6/7 weeks and it still being in the high 20s and very sunny. At least I can get some washing out.

On the brightside, taking our young grandsons out for brunch at a train themed cafe.

Peace my dog freedom after an abusive relationship where I was abused many ways many times a day starting from when I opened my eyes in the morning

Am I missing something here?

I'm guessing a cat walking all over a mobile phone?

My cat once managed to send just such a text message to my partner.

She must have hit the shift buttons though, because there were a lot of %%%%% and capital letters.

She managed to press 'send', though when she'd finished!

Clever girl! I'm sure it made perfect (purrfect) sense to her! 🤣

Looking again, I'm wondering if it was a joint effort.

@idkbroidk I agree with your comment. That’s not normal or even funny to ask your little brother to do such a thing. The fact the 7 year old was crying speaks for itself. It wasn’t just about the money, he felt humiliated and the OP thinks that’s funny ffs. The 12 year old knew what he was doing, he’s a perv and was checking to see if his 7 year old brother would do as he asked if he promised him money. He’s creepy as f..k, what would he ask him to do next if he promises him more money?

I’m glad other people have also read this a thought it was wrong, the 12 year old should know better and the age difference between them does make it weird. They are at very different developmental stages.
If it had a been a more intimate body part it wouldn’t be the case of making him hand over £6 and moving on.
He needs to be told off this as I would see it as he’s testing the waters to see what he can ask for next, but it’s fine as long as he coughs up the cash OP won’t hear about it until 10 years down the line when the youngest needs some intense therapy!

I woke up feeling as though I had flu, which I definitely do not have - this is my first alert that my thermoregulation is off and im about to have a huge autonomic crash, which the last two times resulted in me being basically a shivering or sweating zombie for 10 days. It is properly horrific and I have had real flu several times, its frankly worse, hyper sensitive skin, pouring sweat or shivering so hard it hurts, in cycles and then just passing out in between.

Fortunately this time I recognised my bodies stupid shit and hit it with some paracetamol and NSAIDs and touch wood... have so far survived most of my 8 hour work shift at just sub-par rather than 'total zombie, swap shifts with someone else'.

Heat waves can piss right off.

My sweet 4 year old bursting into our bedroom to tell his daddy about what we got up to yesterday. DH works hideous hours, particularly at the moment, and that hour between 7 and 8 is a short window for DS to cram in everything he needs to say 🥹

VikingLady · 15/08/2026 21:26

DS (11) trying to shove me across my bed so he could climb in for a cuddle, whilst he shushed the warbling cat who was convinced her food plate was empty despite not having checked it. You wouldn’t believe a well nourished child would be composed of so many corners. Mindful of how little time I have left until he doesn’t want this, I squoze him until his pips squeaked.

Less cheerfully, after he’d gone DH thought it was an excellent opportunity to grope me and try to initiate sex. I fell asleep on him. 6am is NOT the time. Ever.

mathanxiety · 15/08/2026 21:35

Dcat bouncing aboard my bed and announcing her presence with a long meeeeeeow, around 6am.

perverted? Behave yourself.

This is something my children would do (3 girls aged 14,12 and 9)

EdinaTheConfessor · 16/08/2026 11:55

Mumsnet is like a parallel universe sometimes. As if kids doing gross things with their siblings is red flag psycho behaviour 🤣
Anyway, it was likely the 7 year olds idea anyway, I don’t think he has been traumatised by the event.

Today, Sid and Nancy were absent. Probably because they had a huge session yesterday evening. They certainly have a lot of energy!

However, I was rudely awakened by my neighbour loudly sweeping her patio at 7.30 am. The first night I’d had a reasonable sleep due to the cooler weather, and I still get woken up unnaturally 😡

Then she started hoovering her ‘lawn’ (artificial).

I miss pigeon sex.

MinesabigGandT · 16/08/2026 12:49

I woke up to rain again. 🙂

But before anyone gets either jealous or overexcited it lasted about 10mins and perhaps would be classed as 'spitting'

AreThereSomewhereIslands · 16/08/2026 12:59

Alarm was set for 7.30am. DH fell out of bed at 7.29am. Angry

Blingismything · 16/08/2026 14:41

A miniature schnauzer licking my hand at 8am.

Dappy777 · 15/08/2026 13:53

The sound of a car with a modified exhaust that screeched and backfired. I am often woken up by these idiots, sometimes several times a night. The police, needless to say, do nothing.

I just don't understand why someone who has a nice looking car would want it to sound like an old banger with the exhaust dropping off!

One cat standing on me and sniffing my nose, the other cat yowling like he was dying because his dry food bowl was only half full and he needed it filling all the way to the top.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Not sure what you mean, but I had just put my phone on my lap, ready to send a text, and pussycat jumped up and trampled all over the phone with her hind feet.

Next thing I know, when I retrieve my phone from underneath her, a text message has been sent.

My partner didn't know what to make of it!

HelpMeGetThrough · 17/08/2026 09:29

I farted myself awake.

In my defence, I had extensive bowel surgery last year and my farts have less distance to travel 😀

LancashireButterPie · 17/08/2026 09:35

The bliss of the sound of rain on my window.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 17/08/2026 11:57

Im on holiday at the moment i got a message in early hours from a neighbour saying my alarm was going off and asking who had the key as we often leave it with her. I had to message the other NDN asking if they could go into the house and turn it off. I felt awful. First neighbour then messaged back saying it was off now so other neighbour must have dealt with it. But neighbour with the key didn't see my msg so it turned itself off and I was so nervous it would start up again. I never really slept after that as I kept checking messages. Turns out neighbour with key was unwell and took some sort of sedative or sleeping pill and never woke up from messages or alarm. I live in a cul de sac and feel bad about the whole thing.

SometimesThingsHappen · 17/08/2026 12:14

My DH moaning in his sleep from a nightmare. Normally I would wake him up but I was still pissed off with him from something that happened last night so I left him to finish his nightmare. 😂🤣 I am an evil bitch!
