Another heatwave coming.
Are we all ready for heatwave number 5.

We hit the heady heights of 22 today. Warmest it's been for ages. It was 16/17 and rain for a lot of this week.

I'm in Northumberland and the part I'm in has our own microclimate. Usually 3 or 4 degrees cooler than our nearest town which is about half an hour away.

EmiliaBassano · 08/08/2026 23:19

All the grass around here looks like the Serengeti.

Me too.

Three.❤

@GreenFootstool you have successfully distracted me - I'm another person stuck in a permanent heat wave because of where I live - but you've mentioned hedgehogs and owls. It's really rare to hear an owl around here which is ridiculous because there is greenery, they are around. I'm often awake at night, but I just don't hear them nowadays. And I haven't seen a hedgehog for literally years, but I lived in London for most of my adult life.

How lovely that you normally see and hear them and how strange that you're not - I don't know where hedgehogs go in hot weather!

VivIsBlonde · 08/08/2026 23:23

Bring it on!
Hotter the better, hope this time it’s hotter than the last few weeks!
Come 6pm there’s no sun in my garden and it’s cold!
I need it hot, hot, hot!!

QueenOfHiraeth · 08/08/2026 23:23

Do you think if all of you in the heatwave zone faced North and exhaled at the same time you could blow a bit of warmth up North please?!

I visited earlier this year and the taxi driver said I had bought the sunshine with me. It was about 23 and sunny. So nice for me because it was 35 down here.

I'm still slightly unclear what kind of weather you normally have up there because last year when I visited it was 27 and sunny! (I think that was why the taxi driver made the comment, he picked me up from the station last year as well)

I need to find a nice Northumberland man to go and live with! It's so beautiful there.

fashionqueen0123 · 08/08/2026 23:24

It was only 27 today. Feels normal now! Yesterday we were somewhere a bit cooler and it 22c with a little chill in the wind in the morning I had to get a jacket on. Thankfully it warmed up in the afternoon.

Tomorrow is 30c so back to what it was earlier in the week. It hasn’t rained in weeks. I like the temps it’s great for being able to plan stuff for the summer but I wish it would rain at night!

Lesina · 08/08/2026 23:26

The planet is dying.

Rondayvu · 08/08/2026 23:27

Finally some good weather and I have the week off work. I have worked so many days and hours and had to deal with the heatwave in office clothing so I cannot wait to actually enjoy the sun, wear proper sun clothes 😀

Christ, come to Scotland. I've had my heating on in August!

Im seriously considering that as an option actually - as someone who really really doesnt cope well in this weather. Ive been hating it since day one of the first heatwave (actually since before that, when I knew it was on its way!)
When you've had your heating on....... do you know what the indoor temperature has been in your house thats prompted that decision? Im really interested to know - because I HATE this hot weather....... but Im not terribly keen on the other extreme either!

Hey! I asked this poster first! Considering booking an Icelandic break just for a change! 😂

EmeraldRoulette · 08/08/2026 23:40

@Stinkybooks I can't cope with cold either

Basically, it needs to stay between 10 and 25 for me. By the law of averages, you'd think we'd get quite a lot of that, but I feel as if we haven't this year. I suppose we must've done but having a 35° heat wave in May and then basically being hot ever since it completely confused me. The flat literally can't cool down no matter what you do to it so... I'm just totally confused and I don't feel well.

I agree. Under 25 is ideal. I am done with heat this year. Bring on the snow!

WeeDote · 08/08/2026 23:43

Still waiting on number two here...

EmeraldRoulette · 08/08/2026 23:44

@SaraHoliday I thought you didn't like cold either? I hate snow.

The two times you'll find me on the weather thread are when there's a risk of snow or a heat wave

I do like the cold - love cold wintry nights snuggled up watching a film, reading a book! My favourite time of the year! (Though I do enjoy sunny holidays!)

Mndhe · 08/08/2026 23:46

My son has just arrived from Australia Winter for a few weeks and I am so happy that the weather is hot…he might decide that the uk is worth living in again 🤞🙏😂

Happyjoe · 08/08/2026 23:46

It's even too hot for our tortoise and they love heat!

I think had enough now. The grass is actually dying now (not dormant) because it's been so long without rain and fed up with hosepipe ban already as do voluntary gardening. It's affecting wildlife, the birds have all disappeared around here other than the pigeons. The local squirrels are tiny, lost so much weight as little to eat naturally. Hedgehogs are suffering, apart from the one that's eating every night in my garden. The cat has had enough and menopausal me has too!

25oC tops please. Preferably around 20oC is just perfect! lol.

I am leaving water bowls out for the wildlife.🙏

Summerunlover · 08/08/2026 23:55

I went on holiday last week to the north east. It was so lovely and cool. And as we where driving back down south today I could feel the heat increasing

Brilliant, nice one, Yeah, me too but I have noticed people around leaving bowls out, not seen it like this before, heartening!

My dog is obsessed with hedgehogs, so we find them almost every night from about May to November 😂.

A male tawny owl has been around here for years, I have never caught sight of him though.

We're on the edge of a town, adjacent to farmland so it's an odd mix of residential and rural. Muck spreading recently was an especially smelly experience this year....

I'm concerned about the lack of wildlife which appears to have dropped off a sudden cliff edge in this heat. Whilst I'm glad to see the back of the slugs in my garden, it doesn't bode well for the balance of ecology.

I have an upturned Frisbee for shallow drinking needs plus a larger bowl for taller beasties.
