Another heatwave coming.
Are we all ready for heatwave number 5.

It's still really really hot today I think the house has the accumulated heat build up .
However there is cloud cover which seems like a change and any change seems good

I thought that too. Walls and doorframes feel warm to the touch. Very strange.

Still no rain in the south and I’m still ridiculously sweaty every time I do the smallest task! It’s incredibly humid today. We have cloud cover and it’s a bit grey but it’s not delivering anything. We thought it looked cool enough to leave the dog walk til 10am ish today but with hindsight it was still too hot.

I swear when it rains I might cry at the sound of my water butts filling up!

the80sweregreat · 16/08/2026 16:03

It will never rain ;(
It honestly worries me how little there is and what we will do without it. Can it be imported? Just more money isn’t it :(

It’s utterly grim here! Can barely breathe and it will apparently get worse!!

Dumb indeed.

I live near the New Forect. The local FB page has a photo of the car of an imbecile who she’s just seen throwing a cigarette end out of his window onto the very brown and dry verge. 😤 The cars were stationary at the time as there is gridlock around here due to the closure of the A31 because of the fire.

Morons indeed, hopefully the law will clamp down on this behaviour like they do in Australia etc.

I read somewhere today can't remember how good the source was that reservoirs are 70 % full and 54 in the south ?

SignsofLife · 16/08/2026 19:15

Meanwhile in Scotland it's actually quite chilly and Autumnal.

Inthesummertimewhen · 16/08/2026 19:16

As ever it feels like all restrictions are too little to late . There should be a hot weather protocol that immedialy kixks into place including very clear and strong messaging / fines /prosecutions and get in preventative messages and be proactive not reactive !

It depends on where you are and where that reservoir feeds.

For example, I'm in Cornwall and the one that supplies to my home is currently 55% full:

It’s chilly in my SE garden tonight I am actually wrapped up in a blanket! Been in shorts all day though.
feels we’ve hopefully turned a corner with it all. Just need some rain now

Fallulah · 19/08/2026 09:33

There was rain in the night in Hampshire! 🥳
Just checked the water butt and it hasn’t made any meaningful difference to the level though.

Whosthetabbynow · 19/08/2026 09:49

I was getting the recycling boxes in and I got a bit rained on!!! Bliss

KeepPumping · 19/08/2026 13:49

Whosthetabbynow · 19/08/2026 20:37

Nice breeze in SE London. I might even have to close my window a tad. Lovely.

Inthesummertimewhen · 19/08/2026 20:41

It's been mostly bliss today however a little hot still when the sun came out !

isthismylifenow · 20/08/2026 10:44

I posted upthread about our bonkers weather in SA.

Last week we had the coldest few days I have ever known. We are in the last stretch of winter, so a few cold fronts are not that unexpected.

However, exactly one week later... expected high of 30 degrees today. Last week was 3. I really am not complaining, but wtf...

I did think of this thread when the weather forecaster said the temperature expected for today with the description... mild to warm. 😀

It's freezing here in Scotland. Finally some respite for those who aren't fond of the heat but for the rest of us , bring back the sunshine once more..please 🥶 🤣

Agree. It was 7 degrees when I was walking the dog earlier - we had the heating on to take the chill off. I've noticed the leaves are starting to turn on some trees too. Months and months of cold, shit weather and darkness to look forward to Sad

the80sweregreat · Yesterday 08:35

I do feel for those in Scotland who just want a decent summer and have harsh winters. It must be hard and means either paying for a holiday abroad or coming down south for a break when we have our heatwaves.
I really struggled during the hotter days , but the odd nice in the 20s when it’s bearable it wasn’t too bad. Trouble is we had more this year that were just too hot and uncomfortable.

AutumnLover1990 · Yesterday 09:20

Was it just me that noticed how dark it got early last night? I'm in Staffordshire.

the80sweregreat · Yesterday 12:33

It’s actually chilly here today and I had to dig out a cardigan out of moth balls. Would rather have rain tbh.
