Questions about the recent arrivals in Spain and what happens next

Lankylegs3 · 01/08/2026 18:27

I have some questions..
And I wondered if people knew any answers
Where have all the sudden visitors to Spain come from..
They must of been gathering somewhere,
did no one spot them gathering .
They seem to be all men ,
why Spain ,
Are they Hoping to live there
So this must of been a coordinated effort,
who planned it ..
Will Spain keep them and house them ?
Will they bring their families over
Is it a wind up ..are they all heading home eventually
It's very odd
What is Spain going to do ..will they let them stay like the others .
Spain has a left government?? So they don't mind ?

Have you read the articles posted?

No one made it to mainland Spain; no one was ever going to make it to mainland Spain. A sizable chunk of them probably didn't even want to go to mainland Spain.

The Moroccans are suspected to have loosened border controls in protest after the Spanish Prime Minister visited Algeria. Morocco has a longstanding feud with Algeria.

Spain did exactly what it was supposed to do and quickly brought in forces from the mainland to bring things back under control.

I'm not entirely sure what it is you wanted the people of Ceuta to do to stop them?

Yes, but it’s still an utter failure to have it happen. I don’t expect the people of Cueta to do anything, I’d expect Spain and the EU to police their border effectively. 60000 in one day, it really is a catastrophic failure.

No, it was more the example of how mass undocumented immigration could affect people and why they’re concerned. It’s one of the basic functions of a border to stop people who pose a threat, you can’t do that if you don’t know who has entered. I get the impression you do understand as it was quite a clear example, but are a little bit worried you’d be considered racist for admitting to understanding people’s concerns, Would I be close there or completely way off mark ?

You said you get why people ‘say’ they have these concerns, I was simply explaining why they do have these concerns and they are valid.

Can I just ask for a little theory I have, you don’t currently have children? And employed in public sector?

Is it really though? Did these people pose a threat ? Even the far right videos I’ve watched show them calling their mums and saying they are hungry.

Very few borders are impenetrable. Reducing illegal immigration is more about making it difficult for people to survive in a country without being documented. So you don’t end up like the US where entire industries are relying on people who are undocumented.

I think what this incident shows many things - how the Moroccan authorities are willing to put pressure on Spain by using their own people as pawns. How governments like Italy
And Finland used to situation to call for Spain to be suspended from Schengen , despite there being no onwards migration route to mainland Spain. How far right actors all across the world portrayed the situation mostly as an invasion of mainland Spain.

All these things are very significant and will impact all of us.

The simple answer is we don’t know if they pose a risk as we don’t know who they are. That is not acceptable.

Roughly 1 in 20k people have murdered people, so statistically there could have been 2-3 murderers crossed the border without anyone knowing.

But the majority have gone home: nobody was murdered. 57 people died…It’s a very sad state of affairs

JemimaTiggywinkles · 01/08/2026 22:52

Ah, nobody was murdered and most went home quickly. So no problem at all that 60000 people illegally entered the country and caused huge damage to local property. Honestly, people downplaying this push moderates to the far right much quicker than the likes of Farage can pull them.

Where did you read that there was huge damage to Ceuta properties? I've not read that anywhere. There were unverified social media reports of damage in Morocco, but as that's not part of Europe and their own government caused it, there isn't a lot we can do about that.

I’m not downplaying at all. I’m merely pointing out that the people themselves were merely pawns in a larger game.

I think it is a very significant event for the reasons I already outlined above.

Have not read of damage to properties there. There is extensive damage in Northern Morocco though.

A migrant is a person who has moved from one place to another. I would say they’re migrants. Not sure what else they’d be?

Expats 😂😂

You cannot lose control of an outer territory and expect your mainland to stay secure. If the EU fails to defend its outer borders, it signals weakness and invites foreign adversaries to push even closer to the homeland.

85,000 Spaniards live there!

It’s no easier for them to get from Cueta to mainland Spain than it is from Morocco surely?

PrincessofWills · 02/08/2026 07:50

You aren't really understanding the geographical limits posed by the area, or the fact that this happened 5 years ago, with 10k people breaching the border and they were all returned to Morocco.

It isn't a problem for the EU because there literally is nowhere to go from Ceuta. Without either a Spanish ID card or passport none of them can get onto the ferries.

And whilst it was an horrible experience for the people of Ceuta, and for those killed in the melee, the threat to the EU was non existent.

Of course I understand. I disagree. That’s very different.

I understand that some people are concerned that a border many miles away was crossed by people who may or may not be murderers. I don’t share that concern.

“Not wanting to be considered racist” is a bit simplistic. A bit… basic. Immigration concerns are far more complex than that, and I have already said that me not sharing some of those concerns doesn’t make them less valid to the people who do have them. I just don’t have to share them. We’re not a hive mind.

Yes I have a child. One, very disabled, very vulnerable, 9 years old.

I don’t work in the public sector, but use it more than most because of above child. SENd school, NHS specialists coming out of our ears, etc.

I’m also from a working class industrial town in the NE, if that helps answer any of your “queries.”

So if that theory is that I live in a magic bubble, that’s clearly false. I just have bigger things to concern myself with than borders miles away,

cityliving99 · 01/08/2026 20:13

I am assuming all the people you talk about are legal immigrants? We welcome those who wish to apply legally and add benefit to our country.
Name me one Islamic country which would welcome you, if you arrived illegally?

Oddly enough, our finance manager is also Muslim, does the same things as the pp's FM, and arrived in this country as an asylum seeker. He and his wife also recently became British Citizens.

Morning. No, the murderer was one example as you mentioned it was one thing that would concern you, The point is mass uncontrolled immigration itself, we simply don’t know who is crossing borders .,,that is what borders are for. I do get the feeling you understand this and the lazy straw man arguments are part of some political view point rather than common sense pertaining to the topic.

iI’m not suggesting you’re being disingenuous, it’s just usually childless people who don’t care if borders work or not, If not public sector, are you living completely on benefits?
My theory may need tweaking 😀

I think it might. I work, full time, and don’t claim anything beyond the DLA my son is entitled to, which is spent on him.

Absolutely zero other benefits.

Genuinely?
You have a child, not tax payer funded and don’t work in the public sector?
You’re being honest?
Last couple of questions:
Do you have blue hair or support the Green Party ? Did you feel like you didn’t fit in when at school ?

Of course they have, the significance is that Spain lost control of the border, there was a .massive influx of Morrocan citizens, a significant number of deaths, and it was a pretty poor show all round.
The EU I'm sure will be looking at who instigated the border breach, the part any foreign power played, and the significance of social media.

Backedoffhackedoff · 01/08/2026 19:20

This is not related to the uk at all. Do you stay on top of the latest news from the refugee situation in Bangladesh or Kenya because you’re so interested in migration? Of course you don’t. You only care when it’s whipped up into hysteria by the media and right wing parties so you can hand wring about it somehow impacting the uk.

People dont tend to claim asylum from Bangladesh or Kenya in huge numbers, there may be the odd one or two.

Violetdeparma · 02/08/2026 09:55

I'm finding the stance from some posters re " nothing to see here " very strange when the powers that be in the EU have been outraged by all this !

I must admit I had the opposite problem in that I struggled to leave, as the immigration control would not accept that we didn't have a car. Their paperwork had gone awry from the previous visit and our boat, which they had recorded as being 'a vehicle' was recorded as still being in Morocco . . .

It got a bit fraught.

My hair is brown. I had friends at school, some of whom I still have now.

Any further weird questions, your honour?

It’s not that there is “nothing to see”

It’s that some posters are saying oh my god. It’s an invasion , it could happen here…. The EU were at risk from these people.

It’s not and they weren’t and the vast majority have already gone home. It’s a significant event. There are clearly foreign powers behind it.

Where do you think 60,000 people went to the toilet? Where did 60,000 people leave their buoyancy aids? Where did 60,000 people sleep?

If masses of young men turned up on your street, would you lock your doors? Of course you would. You’d be barricading yourself in.

As one commentator said, this is what open borders would look like.

Yes but the actual powers that be in the EU think it's a massive deal and ...the telegraph has reported that is has had an impact on our illegal immigration by boat !
