Questions about the recent arrivals in Spain and what happens next

Lankylegs3 · 01/08/2026 18:27

I have some questions..
And I wondered if people knew any answers
Where have all the sudden visitors to Spain come from..
They must of been gathering somewhere,
did no one spot them gathering .
They seem to be all men ,
why Spain ,
Are they Hoping to live there
So this must of been a coordinated effort,
who planned it ..
Will Spain keep them and house them ?
Will they bring their families over
Is it a wind up ..are they all heading home eventually
It's very odd
What is Spain going to do ..will they let them stay like the others .
Spain has a left government?? So they don't mind ?

Really?
Have you EVER lived in Islamic Countries?
I will continue to fight for oppression against women, because that is what is coming to Europe.

“Coming to Europe”?

When does it arrive?

Last I checked my area already had at least some Muslims, and I’m definitely not oppressed by any of them.

Our finance manager is Muslim. He just pays my wages, looks after invoicing, reconciles stuff, goes home to his wife and kids. I don’t think when I start work on Monday he’s going to suddenly yell the Quran at me.

Honestly. The hysteria.

It's extremely real.

Look it up. The telegraph has reported boat crossings are now reduced in price from last week to cash on this ( boats to the UK ). They have been down with the migrants ready to cross over.

Common sense would tell you to “cash in on This” you would increase prices.

I am assuming all the people you talk about are legal immigrants? We welcome those who wish to apply legally and add benefit to our country.
Name me one Islamic country which would welcome you, if you arrived illegally?

I was being sarcastic. Because I'm still waiting for someone to explain how some people swimming round a fence on the continent of Africa brings them any closer to mainland Europe or the UK.

They were shocking scenes, mass organisation ..
But it's racist to want to talk about anything to do with immigration

It's not racist to want to talk about migration, but generally, when people do want to talk about migration, the conversation is racist and not based on any verifiable facts.

Net migration to the UK is falling rapidly. The number of small boats attempting to enter UK waters is falling. It is not the big issue people think it is.

And what's always forgotten when people want to "discuss immigration" is the human element. These people are human beings, not boat people, not illegals, not terrorists, but human beings. Human beings who are literally risking death because the life they have is intolerable. Have we forgotten Alun Kurdi already?

They're not making these crossings for shits and giggles or because they want to claim their "free house and money". They just want to live somewhere safe, with enough money to support themselves and their family, which they are more than willing to work for.

Does that mean we should welcome them with open arms? No, that would be silly, and it wouldn't mean a better life for the migrants or for UK residents, but we can show some humanity rather than standing on the coast screaming "send them back! Sink their boat!" which appears to be what a lot of those wanting to discuss migration want to happen.

We shouldn't accept anyone and everyone into the UK, but nor should we round them up like animals, shove them en masse into a hotel with a few quid a day to live on, and expect things to work out. They should be processed quickly and respectfully and then be provided with safe passage back to their home country should it be deemed safe to return them.

We also need to accept that we need some immigration; we have an aging population, a falling birthrate, and an economy that relies on the population either growing or remaining stable. Until someone finds a better way to run the economy, we need more taxpayers than retirees, which means we need migrants to come here and pay taxes.

But you are aware of some of the concerns are you not? Are they all not valid because you have not been affected?

So is someone who follows Islam more or less dangerous based on how they arrive here?

When they “come to Europe” does the mode of transport make them different levels of oppressive?

Couldn’t tell you - I don’t need to arrive anywhere.

Batrat · 01/08/2026 20:16

I’m aware of the concerns people say they have, yes.

Quite how they relate to being concerned about a country 1500 miles away is beyond me.

Lilypad34 · 01/08/2026 20:27

What is the issue some have with a poster asking reasonable questions? The snide answers here say a lot about the person replying. Some of you really need to get over yourselves.

Batrat · 01/08/2026 20:29

Backedoffhackedoff · 01/08/2026 19:29

what Does concerned mean in this context? Worrying about things you can’t control and indeed have no influence on is very mentally unhealthy.

It means the same as in any context: worried, troubled, feeling that there is a problem.

So people shouldn’t voice their concerns because of their mental health? I disagree and I also disagree that we don’t have an influence, people should be more informed and engaged in what is going on as that is how people do have influence. It may not be good for some peoples mental health but we owe it to our children to be vocal about something so obviously wrong that is happening and us going to hugely negatively impact their future.

Most Islamic countries are being run by extremists; hence, people want to leave, so no, I doubt they would welcome us.

I do know that when riots, aimed at muslims (or rather anyone a bit tanned, since the local thugs aren't the brightest buttons in the box) tore apart half of my home town, it wasn't the CofE who arranged to replace the (white) Butcher's shop window the next day, nor was it the CofE who were posting on FB arranging volunteers to help with the clean up while the riots were still happening.

That people ‘say they have ‘, did you mean to imply they’re not valid concerns? Is that because you haven’t been affected or share those concerns?

They’re concerned about a country 1500 miles away because they have empathy with the people living there, worried about porous EU borders and worried about any similar situation happening in the UK. What distance from the UK would you understand people being concerned about? 500 miles? 100?

To be fair ,I probably could of looked the information up instead of starting a thread ,I didn't see there was one already,
and I was just tired ,it's been a long day and I thought it would be easier to ask on chat ,than find out for myself.
But Im greatful for the people who the time to explain and post links and I've looked some information up myself too
Sometimes I forget Mumsnet is not what it was ,and people expect everyone to have the same understanding they have ..
Will definitely stick to chat gtp next time ,

Left wing dogma, wrongthink is not to be tolerated.

I should of just gone on chat gtp
But I don't think they are migrants..are they .
Was it not an organised plan .

Don't use chat gtp. Read the newspapers like everybody else has done, or maybe watch the tv news, or the articles on the BBC & ITV websites, or the million and one other sources that are already out there, and I'm sure all will become clear.

Aidezmo · 01/08/2026 20:42

I came on this thread hoping it might contain some informative debate about who organised this deluge of men on Ceuta and why they might have done that, but it’s just full of people accusing the OP of migrant bashing and berating her for not doing enough research on the subject.
I understand that people are worried the OP is trying to stir up anti immigrant feelings - and they don’t want to give the subject any more oxygen - but it’s a shame we can’t have a sensible conversation about it.

If you are escaping regimes which are vile, why would you want to bring those Islamic regimes to Europe?
North African countries are not part of those strict regimes. Even in Algeria, it is women who suffer, not men. So why are men leaving women behind? My husband worked in the Algerian desert for 2 years - one of the most friendlier countries he worked n. But women are classed as second class citizens. So no thank you, I don’t want that here.

That was some good catching out you just tried.

I don’t share the concerns. Which is as valid a view as those who have them.

Depends. I would worry about a murderer at the end of my street, but probably not one in Scotland, given I live in Cheshire.

hahabahbag · 01/08/2026 20:49

The vast majority were sent straight back to Morocco, none have left Ceuta because the ferries were paused, security tightened etc

I don't think MN has ever welcomed being used as a replacement for Google. I distinctly remember the "let me Google that for you" meme that used to be popular back when it was all fields around these parts.

I've asked questions about politics, the economy, etc on MN when I haven't understood something, and people answered me. The difference is your questions could all have been answered by reading one news article.

And I wondered if people knew any answers
Where have all the sudden visitors to Spain come from.. Morrocco
They must of been gathering somewhere, No, they didn't to, they live in the place they came from
did no one spot them gathering They didn't gather, they made the crossing as soon as they got there.
They seem to be all men , If you had to leave the UK because you couldn't afford to eat, would you and the kids go, or would you ask your dad/husband/brother to go ahead and secure safe passage for the children?
why Spain It's attached to their country
Are they Hoping to live there They want to live anywhere in Europe where they can secure work that pays enough to eat
So this must of been a coordinated effort, It was posted on social media, and people started following
who planned it .. I don't think anyone did, as such, people started posting about the recent court ruling and their incorrect interpretation of it, and it went viral, no one planned a meeting time/place, as far as we know so far.
Will Spain keep them and house them ? No, Spain has sent most of them back to Morrocco and are tracking down those who remain.
Will they bring their families over No - see above
Is it a wind up ..are they all heading home eventually - No, they wanted to find work in Europe but it would never have been allowed to happen.
It's very odd What is odd about wanting to feed your family?
What is Spain going to do ..will they let them stay like the others . Spain has mobilised their armed forces; other EU countries are also assisting.
Spain has a left government?? So they don't mind ? Spain does mind - see above.

All of these answers were in the article from the Guardian that you could have found in less time than it took you to type up the OP. That's what has made people suspect you just fancied a bit of a racist rant and thought this would be the perfect opening.

Well surely there’s a difference between not sharing someone’s concerns and implying they’re just saying they have concerns?

For the sake of argument, If that murderer at the end of your street had arrived undocumented from North Africa to Cueta to Spain to France to Dover and then to your street and it later turned out he had a history of murders in his home country. Would you then be concerned when 60000 undocumented people entered Cueta ?

Goingmadddd · 01/08/2026 21:05

People here being weirdly angry about OP asking. It is absolutely fascinating and having read a number of articles I also have some of these questions still.

Like where were they all? It is a hell of a lot of people to suddenly appear, but then when you say it’s a football stadium full then I can see how that is possible to happen over a 24 hr period.

Insane though!

I think I’d just be concerned that there’s a murderer at the end of my street.

Has that actually happened to you, a Ceutan murderer has transversed Europe until they murdered you in your back garden? Do we have any previous concerns about Ceutans themselves?

I mean specifically about Ceutans.

Ok ,so they are not wanting to live there ,it just seems so odd

You are right, it is very odd

We're not being told a lot of information, I don't believe that people just came in for one day and then left within 24 hours. What would be the point
