He'd have made more going into restaurants with a cap in his hand asking diners to pay £100 not to have dinner with him.

Efacsen · 15/08/2026 14:19

That map is truly worrying @TemperanceWest no wonder you are smelling smoke

Our 'rain' this afternoon is elusive too - tho' can see from the weather map that it is actually raining about 60 miles away

Evenstar · 15/08/2026 14:20

@5128gap 😂

PickAChew · 15/08/2026 14:30

TemperanceWest · 15/08/2026 13:58

Exactly.

This is my (and a few other regulars on here) neck of the woods right now ☹️. Nothing to worry about. Keep lighting those bbqs and fires.

Someone I know on another forum has a farm right next to one of those. They got a tip off the other day to move some of their livestock and when they checked back, the next day, some of the fence to that field was burnt.

Can anyone explain what's funny about someone who posted in local social media that they didn't hear the alarm because they were burning wood pallets out in the back garden?

I know this person and know where they live. His garden backs onto the school fields. Everywhere is a tinderbox. Wealthy family in a wealthy road btw.

Nothing at all, @placemats -what a fucking bellend.

This it’s outrageously stupid behaviour Yy Bellend.
Nigel must have burned through that five million if they are pimping out 30p Lee as a dinner date🤢

dontcallmelen · 15/08/2026 13:59

This can’t do right for doing wrong it seems.
Lizzie glad she is ok.
my weather app is doing my head in, one minute thunderstorms & rain for a few days early next week, then pouff disappears.

Thank you, @dontcallmelen. And I agree with you about the weather app, it doesn’t seem able to work out whether there will be rain or not!

I think it might be an idea to try a rain dance, like @BIossomtoes.

cardibach · 15/08/2026 15:45

This is the extent of the problem in Wales. It’s scary. The accurately designated bellends are driving me mad.

No matter how small, fires can get out of hand and spread. Some join together and the spread is dependent on the wind factors: strength and direction. It's not a joke, it's serious.

itsgettingweird · 15/08/2026 15:59

Absolutely to the wind being an issue.

That and the heat this weekend is why the forest fire near me keeps flaring up.

The wind has changed direction daily and picks up every afternoon.

Its devastating. We have heathland rarer than rainforest being destroyed alongside the wildlife that lives there.

In this case it was a lorry fire and not a BBQ.

I cannot get the fuss over being asked not to do something that could cause this through choice.

dontcallmelen · 15/08/2026 19:28

Completely & ultterly off topic, if any one is looking for a midi kilt skirt in a neutral cream/brown small check just got one from Sainsburys for £28.00 its really heavy & lined admittedly polyester/viscose mix but as a winter item I don’t mind more synthetic fabric (I’m debating if it worth getting shortened as it’s very long on me.
As you were.

BestIsWest · 15/08/2026 20:11

@dontcallmelen I’d already seen that online and made a note! It looks lovely.

I do not need more clothes

itsgettingweird · 15/08/2026 20:25

Just googled. That is lovely.

I quite like the knee length one too.

o wear dresses and skirts with tights and boots in the winter still (for work).

tempted!

dontcallmelen · 15/08/2026 20:43

Ooh @itsgettingweird i didn’t see the knee length one that would probably be mid calf on me (I’m 4ft 10”) might be a better option off to have a look.

I like that! I am 5'3" so not sure how long it would be on me.

dontcallmelen · 15/08/2026 21:02

Probably be just above the ankles @TemperanceWest its dusting the floor on me.

itsgettingweird · 15/08/2026 21:10

I’m 5”7 so the midi one would likely be actually midi on me! The knee length one maybe a little too short

Willowkins · 15/08/2026 21:42

Thanks for asking @TemperanceWest
I was in a stupid car accident - low impact so just musculoskeletal pain. I find reporting to the insurance company is the worst bit but I'm trying not to let it get to me.

DuncinToffee · 15/08/2026 21:58

Glad you're alright @Willowkins .

We are on the ferry home and both Dover and Calais were nightmares, taking over 2 hours to get through passport checks. It used to be a doddle.

LizzieW1969 · 15/08/2026 22:20

I’m sorry you went through that, @Willowkins, but glad you’re ok. I hope the pain goes away soon. And yes, dealing with the insurance company can be a nightmare, you really do have my sympathy.

dontcallmelen · 15/08/2026 22:26

Oh goodness how horrible for you @Willowkins i do hope the pain subsides 💐

cardibach · 15/08/2026 22:40

Car accidents, however minor, knock you about physically and mentally. Hope you feel better soon @Willowkins

Llttledrummergirl · 15/08/2026 23:09

I was at a family gathering at the end of the M4 today so I'm late to the alarm debate.

I don't think they should have sent this alert out and at the risk of sounding like a bingo card, it was a misuse of the system. GDPR says my data can only be used in ways permission has been given for and while I assume somewhere in the small print of my phone agreement I am allowing emergency alerts, I am not convinced telling me not to light fires is an emergency.

I live near fields and my assumption when it went off is that the field was on fire and we needed to move out of the area, mentally, I was out of the door with the important stuff before reading it. I haven't yet received any emergency messages, just system testing and now this one that was not an emergency, so next time I hear it, I am less likely to react in the same way, my coping mechanisms for stress will say it's nothing to be concerned about, and I will ignore it like all the other notifications I get.

I have a friend with family in the middle East. They get alerts a lot with missiles flying over their heads. They turn the phones off, or use headphones to diminish the noise. They pretty much ignore the messages now.

On a plus note, glad that everyone (families included) is on the mend, and I can report that weirdly in three towns and villages, we didn't find a single pothole whilst in Wales.
