Ours all came out in Welsh first too. Thank goodness for Welsh lessons.
Funnily enough we’ve had one phone alert before in the storm of December 2024 and we were in the same theatre with the same company.

Right now my house stinks of smoke. It is so worrying 😩.

Cool westerly breeze here tonight, have had as many windows open as possible without letting the kitten escape. Bedroom is 22° tonight instead of 28° last night.

I have just had to close the windows as it is quite bad.

It's worrying that it may be cooler for the next week but there's no proper rain, even in our forecast.

Tonight is the worst so far here. The heatwave is supposed to end now and for the next two weeks we have forecasts of low to mid 20s but it doesn't feel like it yet.

Same here - hottest night so far and forecast 28 degrees again today - heatwave not breaking until sunday here

We are in Arras and last night sitting outside in the town square it was still low 30s.

Dreadful sticky night, still 25 in the living room right now, but overnight forecast says 9 so that will bring the temp right down for Sunday. I'm off to Plymouth to take DS home after his op/recovery - am staying the night at his and driving back tomorrow.

Good to hear DS is well enough to go home pointy

He's healed enough to do his self care and it's far better for his mental health to be back home - he doesn't suit our Reformy awful little town.

He also has friends staying the majority of the time until he goes back to work, and I'm going to spend the Bank Holiday weekend with him.

It felt hotter than expected here last night too. 26 forecast today. They keep forecasting rain, but then it vanishes. Next Saturday might now see some. I can still smell smoke.

I have to say, the PM doesn't hang about, does he? Apparently the fire service requested the alert and he sent it. He talks about the dangers of disposable bbqs and the next day they're a criminal offence. He does seem to have a listen and act fast approach.

And that has really upset some of his opponents!

@LizzieW1969 hope dd is ok now, really hope those of you near the fires it’s gets better really soon must be really very worrying, it feels much fresher this morning here even a slight breeze thunderstorms forecast for later this afternoon but who knows the rain that was meant to be arriving next week has disappeared from my weather app.
Pointy glad Ds is recovering well excellent news.

He has also sent 100 military personnel to South Wales to help tackle the wildfires.

People are still asking why he isn't doing anything about the drought. I am not sure what they expect?

Yes, I have been impressed by his decisiveness so far. Let’s hope he carries on like this; if he does then Labour have a good chance.

Indeed. Besides, the blaze in Stourport was a very dangerous situation. The threat posed by wildfires is very real.
