A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I wonder how many of the men are going to hastily claim to be under 18.

Yep.

I've read that Spain's supreme Court ruled that they can't be deported back to Morocco if they swam there. Seems bizarre to incentivise migrants to swim there.

Spainish courts need to change the acts fast. Make swimming there as illegal as getting there by other means.

What is an autonomous community please??

Why should it matter how they got there? Obviously they can’t be made to swim back, but it’s fairly easy to put them back on a boat.

Doesn't it?! That's wild.

Reading further it seems like the USA and Israel are supporting Morocco because Sanchez has backed Palestine loudly and at length. Hhmmm.

the80sweregreat · 31/07/2026 17:51

Hmm indeed. Makes me wonder who is behind all these invasions. Someone is stirring it all up, it’s all organized. As well as worrying too.

It how they name their regions/counties/provinces etc.

Well the US certainly won't back Sanchez after what he's done.

I don't think its unreasonable to suggest that what's happened is a direct consequence of Spain's policies. Its like Merkel 2.0.

At this stage, for Ceuta, I would guess Morocco is going to make Spain wait and stew for a bit, but will take them back in the end. They can't afford to irritate the EU for too long.

Let's hope it's the straw that will break the camel's back for Spain and the EU.
I have just been reading about their recent regularisation scheme, 1.16m ppl applied, but 2 good points:

This would only grant a 1y temporary visa, then they would have to apply again via regular Spanish immigration laws. It is not an automatic ILR, citizenship or such.

Because this plan was not passed via parliament, it would be easier to challenge it in court. And I hope someone will do it.

Dang can't access apple or podcasts. Sorry.

Pacificbeach · 31/07/2026 19:23

I am not sure how else to share it. How do you normally get your podcasts?

Lululimess · 31/07/2026 19:34

Despite everyone’s best efforts I expect Reform will do even better under Andy Burnham. People will be even more pissed off when they raise taxes further and do nothing to tackle immigration.

Thanks for that info, good to know. I haven't had time to read up on any of this today, so just going off headlines.
I hope Sanchez feels like an idiot now - he sure looks like one.

Most pods are on YouTube if you search for coffee house shots. I use Amazon music for pods.

I'll listen to that one tomorrow morning on my walk, thanks Pacific.

Maybe, let's see what happens with Farage. Its very noticeable that Burnham hasn't mentioned immigration so far.
I think Kemi will eat Burnham for breakfast at PMQs. Looking forward to it 😁

Lowest turnout to date for the GM mayoral election. Just 25%.

Labour and Reform through to second round votes. The second vote was optional, so will be interesting to see how many people bothered.

Jakers 25%. That's a record I suspect.

It’s nothing new, just the shadow Home Secretary pointing out that the French are doing nothing to stop the boats, and that we need to come out of the laws binding us and getting on with sending migrants home quickly.

Nigel Farage resigned and is tied up with a needless election. Meanwhile, the Tories are moving into his space.

Yes it is.
Its been really strange. I can't remember another election like this one.
The students who live in Manchester will have all gone home for the summer too.
Labour are expected to win on second round.

Philps seems to spend a lot of time sailing on the channel and in France. I like that.

I found this series of short lectures from Arthur Laffer, the macroeconomist. It’s billed as a free “course.” I went ahead and did the mini quizzes at the end. It was fun! I’m nerdy like that.

In case anyone wants to hear a crisp articulation of why Labour is on the wrong track, this is it.

Can anyone on this thread explain the legal routes to seeking asylum in the UK that are currently available?
