A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Front page of The Times this morning - No.10 North to take responsibility for growth away from the treasury. Louise Haigh will head it up, what could go wrong.

@Nuthatch26 I find it so sinister we expect our doctors to act and err on the side of caution in our very best interests !

Nuthatch26 · 19/08/2026 08:49

The Lid Dems are blaming brexit for small boat crossings again. Yawn.

They haven't said much about Burnham shoving asylum seekers in middle class areas have they? Would that be because many of their constituencies are middle class per chance? Poor old Ed Davey. Sinking in the polls and desperate to curry favour with Burnham.

Ikr.
And this stupid Labour govt keep patting themselves on the back for raising NMW for young people, their ludicrous business taxes, and the employment rights bill. They've been actively killing jobs from the first budget.
Then the thick fuckers remove the child benefit cap to put the icing on the cake!

Sorry, I'm ranting again.

I know it's hugely frustrating.

Itv now bills 300 higher to angelaya Raynor....

Bus fares!
Vat cut short term doesn't touch gas.

They are putting more money in people's pockets ??

I don't blame the doctors in this instance. They're taking orders from the dept of health desperate for good headlines. They were given expected numbers, but then told that it wasn't a target. Why issue expected numbers then? All invented to make the over ambitious Streeting look good no doubt.

Bless and some still believe there's a high chance of a LabLibDem coalition at the next GE. If that wasn't funny enough, the same proportion are also hedging their bets on a LibDemGreen coalition.

Well yes they are following orders but the basic principle remains that our doctors should be acting in our best interets and not cause any delays with suspected issues.

Forcing false misleading targets to make over all figures look better. The great leap forward

That’s actually quite funny. As the article points out, Wilson tried similar and it was an abject failure. Burnham really is keen on the 1960s and 1970s!

The simple fact is that economic growth policy is directly, inevitably tied tight to government income and expenditure. That’s why the Treasury oversees both growth policy and the country’s finances. This is just a re-tread of Wilson’s wish to downgrade the Treasury’s influence and reward colleagues with baubles - in Wilson’s case it was George Brown who was deputy PM.

Putting a growth department in Manchester is the most gimmicky nonsense yet from Burnham.

Yep Piddington is Lib Dem voting. Interesting conundrum.

Yep, agree with all of that. The echoes are funny.

The "tired and emotional" George Brown, now played by Louise Haigh.

I suppose ‘do something’ means go mad about some non existent Brexit ruling and asylum. Ignoring the facts on how many and what is happening in the EU.

Piddington are not happy, they’ve nearly all signed a referendum. Granted it’s a mc version of protest.

I still maintain the most vocal on here would still quietly sign that referendum when faced with barracks ;

Of course they would. "Refugees Welcome", just not near me as its unsuitable and we don't have space.
Even the Greens campaign against it when it's on their patch. Hypocrites.

Inflation rises to 2.9%.

Energy bills expected to reach highest level since 2023.

Chancellor John Healey used the "more to do" line. 🙄

DT
The number of foreigners claiming benefits hit a fresh high, days after Reform promised to ban claims by overseas nationals.Almost 1.3 million migrants were claiming Universal Credit (UC) in May 2026, according to figures published by the Department for Work and Pensions, roughly 20,000 higher than a year ago.Citizens from the EU accounted for the biggest proportion of the total, with about half of the foreigners claiming Britain’s main unemployment benefit coming from the Continent.

Labour simply don't understand what growth means.

They think growth is 'spending money other people have created'.

Which they can do just fine from a separate department in the North.

strawberrybubblegum · 19/08/2026 10:15

Any time Labour talk about 'growth', just substitute the word 'redistribution'.

You'll see that what they're saying suddenly starts making sense.
