A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I can give you cool weather and quite a bit of rain if you travel this way? My water butt is brimming after last night's rain, with more to come tonight!

Sadly I can't offer the gift of Kemi at PMQs. But 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

I'm very jealous each time the weather apps promise rain nothing happens ,I had a baby's sneeze of water on my window this am.

However tonight even the met office promises rain rain rain....

Some record figures headlining for benefits and people not working just on the radio via ONS

Looks like we’re switching jobs for inactivity.

The numbers are staggering arent they? 8.4 million claiming UC, and more than half not required to find work!
Only 37.7% in any kind of employment.

The number of benefits claimants who are not expected to look for work now outnumber jobseekers by almost three to one, new figures show.
More than half of the record 8.4 million people claiming universal credit were in the no work-related requirements category in May, compared with about 1.6 million required to search for work.
The proportion with no requirement to work has risen from 46 per cent last summer to 51 per cent, according to Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) figures. (Times)

@Nuthatch26 have I understood this correctly?
Only 37.7% of the working age population in work? I understand that a proportion will be covered by late study, early retirement, caring etc but even so that is incredibly low.

it’s interesting to me because - well I wonder about a lot of things but some of it I can’t say here even in relation to this issue…. But one other thing I really wondered…. After being away this summer, there was one place I went to where I talked quite extensively to one lady about the number of businesses that had closed down or failed. Something that was very striking was that nobody seemed to know what happened to these people. It was the kind of well to do area where it’s hard to know for sure, but my feeling was that they were more likely to have fallen back on savings rather than gone on benefits.

but these figures aren’t going to reflect that are they? Or maybe they are, I don’t know.

Thanks for figures, it was DWP not ONS as I put. Useful to see numbers

Its been only 17 and damp here today (NW). I needed a coat. As Fluffy said, we've had quite a bit of rain up here already.

Fingers crossed you get rain tonight 🤞

It’s shocking and ought to be Burnham’s no 1 priority (along with tackling immigration)

Ikr.
And this stupid Labour govt keep patting themselves on the back for raising NMW for young people, their ludicrous business taxes, and the employment rights bill. They've been actively killing jobs from the first budget.
Then the thick fuckers remove the child benefit cap to put the icing on the cake!

Sorry, I'm ranting again.

Yep, but he likes buses and making tiktoks about baps and pub snacks.

@justasking111 none of that explains why the civil Service make the decisions they make though. Every decision that gets made, I’m left thinking “but whyyyyyyyyyy”

And why do they hate Britain and British people? And why do they hate us soooo much?

Edited

They’re not autonomous though. They’ll offer expert advice but that increasing gets ignored. As said earlier, they’re apolitical.

Sorry, 37.7% of UC claimants are working, not the working populations. Its all in the link I posted if my rants aren't making sense. 😂

I don't know what's happening to the business owners you mentioned. DH and I are both working elsewhere since we closed our business.
Even if the owners of the closed businesses are lucky enough to be able to fall back on savings, their staff are likely to struggle finding work elsewhere in the current climate.

A new gov scheme introduced last year to cut waiting lists in hospital instead of refering patients to consultants /seek guidance and the docs will get 20 quid.

People have died .

Well certainly in Wales they're dying. God help the pensioners who are left dangling for weeks, months, years and if they don't die are told they're too old for surgery or something amiss is found in the pre op assessment.

OH and now if they manage to find the money to go private the government are looking at bunging a tax on that.

£20 for what exactly? To not do a referral?

LieborCookin · 18/08/2026 22:15

@SapphireCasino yes. .
Isn't it sinister so they can say waiting lists are going down !

Okay, I don’t have access to the article but having looked it up it looks as if they get paid £20 for messaging the specialist and then getting referred to a digital service? But that’s not what you said so I’m confused.

LieborCookin · 19/08/2026 07:08

Doctors are paid for every case where they seek guidance rather than send the patient to the specalist

LieborCookin · 19/08/2026 07:18

We already have poor cancer survival rates and delays are part of the problem so this creates an initial delay.

Yes I've read about that. Another dodgy attempt to reduce waiting lists without actually curing anyone.
You're right, two people have died (that we know of), one suffering from seizures, and the other with cardiac problems. But hey, the figures look better. Confused

The Guardian, again, highlighting Labour's double standards. Has the rag changed hands?

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/aug/18/burnham-declares-almost-350000-in-donations-in-months-before-becoming-pm

Thanks for the links. Another dodgy Labour MP eh. I'm sure the Labour lot will defend him as they always do. He should phone Jas Athwal for advice.

Laughing at Lou Haigh's £11k for legal advice. I hope she didn't have any phones stashed when the emergency alert went off. 😂
