Think he’s missing the point here - their intended audience is Trumpian (US and what little support he has in the UK
“But that is not her message. Her outrage is directed at wind, solar, batteries and electric vehicles. There comes a point when you have to conclude that the Tories have gone Trumpian on the existential issue of our time, competing with Nigel Farage’s crypto party for fossil funding and the backlash vote.
Badenoch’s purge of Tory candidates who dissent – either because they think it unconscionable, or because they think it is economically harmful, or both (my view) – is a fateful step for the leader of a political party that endured longer than any other on earth precisely because it is not narrow and factional.”
Even Conservative home says -
“But more specifically and fundamentally, both Net Zero and the ECHR divide the Conservatives’ own voter coalition. According to that same YouGov polling, almost half (48 per cent) for 2024 Conservatives want to the UK to meet its Net Zero commitments. Meanwhile, over a quarter (27 per cent) of 2024 Tory voters support the UK remaining in the ECHR. These voters are not likely to feel well represented by Badenoch’s latest moves.
Driving wedges through a party’s base is usually a tactic deployed by its opponents, rather than its own leadership.”
The FT has similar.
I mean, I don’t particularly care if Badenoch wants to limit their voter base but it’s odd.
