Oh gosh, that brings back itchy memories - my previous cat had a few years of getting fleas every summer and they loved biting me ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I've just ordered some of those sticky window fly traps that look like yellow flowers- a bit grim when you peel them off but I seem to remember them being effective. I had to throw out some bananas last week as I'd left them out (and not been in the flat for a couple of days) and they'd been invaded!

TodayIsabetterone · 02/08/2026 10:05

Morning all, a slow one here. Shoulder still painful and fatigue isnโ€™t great either. So sitting with a cuppa in the garden attempting to motivate myself to do a few bits and pieces before it gets too hot.

@TeaAndStrumpets sounds so painful and I feel your frustration re seeing the jobs when youโ€™re stuck in the house. I do exactly the same especially when DH is out and canโ€™t tell me not to! Itโ€™s so hard not to think Iโ€™ll just do this one thing. Then we beat ourselves up thinking we should have known better but weโ€™re only human! I honestly never thought being unable to do basic household jobs would be so damn frustrating but it really is! Hope the pain subsides very soon.

@Oioiqueen hope you can find something to occupy the kids tomorrow. The temperatures just keep on going donโ€™t they! Weโ€™re not as hot as you, mid twenties but it doesnโ€™t look to be changing yet. Flies are a pain but I did smile at thr thought of your kids chasing each other with those fly zapper things ๐Ÿ˜ฌ My late FIL once brought one for us and given it looked like a tennis racket, the temptation by DS to just have a go was real! I had to hide the thing!

Morning all, it does feel fresher this morning. Feeling a bit more energetic today - going to potter about this morning, plan to go to the open day at the local community garden (five mins walk there) and then maybe build another one of the lurking flatpack things later. Back to work tomorrow, hmmph.

Glad you have a little more energy today. Enjoy the garden open day, sounds like a lovely plan.

Dozymoo42 · 02/08/2026 10:07

I think maybe you need to rest now @TeaAndStrumpets๐Ÿซฃ

We are inundated with flies around this time every year but this year we have one of the flies zapper boxes as the smell of fly spray knocks me sick.

@Oioiqueenwe previously had a bat type of zapper but my DS would chase his older sisters round with it so it had to go! They are all adults now but I fully believe he would still do same now ๐Ÿ˜‚

I am a little tired and sore today not as bad as I expected though so Iโ€™ve either got away with it or it will kick me in the but from tomorrow onwards.

TeaAndStrumpets · 02/08/2026 10:25

@TodayIsabetterone yes I am very contrite now! After the horrors of house selling DH has relaxed a bit on the cleaning front. Our plan is to ignore everything and get the house blitzed once we've cleared it, but in the meantime it would be nice to be clean enough for the occasional visitor!

Dry & overcast here. This week won't go higher than 18โฐc. Sorry to those of you still suffering.

I woke up at 9.30 which is unlike me, must have needed the lie in but sometimes I find having a lie in makes me more tired and I prefer my usual wake up time because I feel a bit more with it. Anyone else the same?

Yeah I have found when I lie in I feel not with it sometimes

TodayIsabetterone · 02/08/2026 12:02

@JewelleryCat Yes same here with a lie in- it just throws me off kilter for the day a bit.

Ive been the same re house stuff this week @TeaAndStrumpetsand have overdone it which I think has triggered all the pain in my shoulder and arm. Itโ€™s never been right since the stroke but it was improving whereas last few days the pain is awful again ๐Ÿ˜• I did so well on my holiday I think I came back thinking I can do more than I actually can if that makes sense and I need to be patient and remember my body is still in recovery. I probably should get a cleaner to blitz everywhere but honestly canโ€™t face the tidying involved beforehand.

Waiting til you move to blitz it sounds sensible to me especially after having to be viewer ready for so long. Remind yourself how well you did and now you deserve some time off! Hope youโ€™re resting now with a nice cup of peppermint tea and book. Iโ€™m in the shade in the gardenโ€ฆ. Eyeing up the weeds ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜ฌ but body is shouting No! So kindle it is ๐Ÿ˜Š

Maybe @Swanhilde has the kettle on!

Yes! I have been sitting with my kindle! The hot water bottle has calmed my ribcage down so I have learned my lesson! DD2 is calling in soon so she can update me on all her news.

I think it's biorhythms @JewelleryCat I much prefer to have a settled routine too.

Yes a peppermint tea would be great thanks @Swanhilde !

Ahh glad the hot water bottle helped. Costochondritus is horrible! My DS arrived at xmas in agony and thatโ€™s what it was. Enjoy your catch up with DD2. Not sure which DD has the teen DSG but hope heโ€™s doing okay with his recent diagnosis.

JewelleryCat · 02/08/2026 12:40

At least it isnโ€™t just me who feels like a lie in makes the body feel out of sorts and more tired

martha79 · 02/08/2026 12:42

Glad your hot bottle has helped @TeaAndStrumpets

I'm the same @JewelleryCat - I dozed off after breakfast this morning and woke up again just before 10 feeling very sluggish.

It's warmed up quite a bit here, I did pop out to the garden open day - it's a lovely space in a walled garden, but particularly hot because it's so well sheltered! Back on the sofa for a while now before I attempt to build some furniture.

Thanks! It is a warning sign. Interestingly now my neck and shoulder have been treated I am not warned by them being stiff so I overuse my arms and chest instead! Sometimes you just can't win ๐Ÿค”

Yes it is the DD whose DS was so ill. It has been very stressful but he is getting better at managing his condition. He has a continuous glucose monitor with an alarm on his phone and his mum's phone, which tends to go off at all hours! She has often slept on his floor if he's having a bad night. I've got cans of full fat coke in my fridge in case he has a hypo at our house. Constantly carb counting, it's all very complicated! Thanks for asking.

FuzzyPuffling · 02/08/2026 19:05

Today I am tired ( woke up at 3.30am) and headachy. Managed to do church this morning, but that's it.
Hope normal ( whatever that s!) servuce will be resumed ASAP.

danglethedingle · 03/08/2026 08:54

Morning all, I've been awake since 4:30. Took DDog on an amble round the block at 6, watered the garden, had a shower, read my kindle. Ready to go back to bed for a nap now ๐Ÿ˜„I might torture some paint later on.

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/08/2026 08:58

Morning all!

I had a hot water bottle clutched to my chest yesterday and last night and my chest feels a lot better. It was maybe just a massive muscle spasm because when I've had costochondritis before it's lasted for weeks. I think my ribs hurt at the drop of a hat because my upper back is so tense..dem bones! Just need to get all the stress removed from my body hahaha. I am still twitching horribly so I can never totally relax.

It was lovely to see Dd2 yesterday, we had a good gossip about people I don't know!

It's pleasantly sunny today. Hope you all have a nice day.

martha79 · 03/08/2026 09:02

Morning all

Glad you're feeling a bit better @TeaAndStrumpets

I was awake at 4:30 too @danglethedingle but did doze off a bit again. Back at work to a horrific number of emails and lots of people on leave (which balances itself out as I'm covering some work but it also means less people asking for things to be done). Exciting deliveries today - new microwave came first thing, Ocado are due at lunchtime and I've got a couple of storage ottomans coming at some point too.

Meant to be getting hot (27C) later, but I'm not planning to go out anywhere!

TodayIsabetterone · 03/08/2026 09:24

Morning all
Also awake at 4:30 too, must be something in the air! Though I did doze on and off til 7 when the dog decided it was morning.
Currently back in bed with a cuppa and a heat bag on my painful shoulder which isnโ€™t easing off unless I take regular painkillers again so think Iโ€™ll need to give in to that for now and hope the osteopath can work some magic on weds.

We had a vague plan to go out for brunch this morning with DD so Iโ€™m resting til sheโ€™s up as be nice to do something with her as sheโ€™s usually our and about with friends nowadays. It can be my something nice for the week before I have to tackle the boring stuff ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hope work isnโ€™t too hard @martha79

Glad the pain is easier @TeaAndStrumpets perhaps your body giving you a โ€˜hey you- behave!โ€™ warning! ๐Ÿ˜œ

@danglethedingle sounds like you deserve a nap already! Was it you that mentioned paint by numbers? Iโ€™m not very artistic at all but used to love paint by numbers as a child! I used to love painting/ doing crafty stuff with DD when younger too, Iโ€™m just really bad at it ๐Ÿ˜‚ so stick to adult colouring books now and then but I like the idea of giving painting a go.

FuzzyPuffling · 03/08/2026 10:15

Hello all!
I feel rather better today- yippee- and have painted a bit of garden wall that needed doing. Box ticked on that one.

Proper arty painting...i trained as an art teacher. May I help anyone?

TeaAndStrumpets · 03/08/2026 10:22

Excited for your deliveries @martha79 how nice to start out with everything nice and new! As previously discussed with @TodayIsabetterone it's a battle to sneak stuff out of the house here so we are having to take all our old rubbish with us. DH is busy packing all the mismatched spare china and boxes of cutlery we have only used at Christmas! I feel quite burdened by everything to be honest, but every teaspoon has the potential to be a long negotiation!

We will be getting both new washer and dryer because our current machine is a pretty basic washer/dryer which does neither very well, we are both in agreement on that. The fridge freezer has "plenty of life in it yet" apparently although nearly 20 years old. Same with TV. Luckily DH finds shopping very boring so I'll be ordering everything ๐Ÿ˜‚

JewelleryCat · 03/08/2026 10:44

Feels fresher outside but still hot inside and unfortunately the breeze never seems to come inside to cool the house down

TodayIsabetterone · 03/08/2026 11:08

Ahh i feel for you @TeaAndStrumpets though mismatched China is making a comeback so youโ€™ll be in vogue! ๐Ÿ˜œ
Itโ€™s probably not worth the negotiations and let DH crack on with the packing.

Feels hotter here today! Think the forecast is 27!

FuzzyPuffling · 03/08/2026 11:45

Hot here again. I've just walked down to the pharmacy and it's definitely hot.
We have possible rain forecast tomorrow- exciting prospect!
