@FuzzyPuffling it's a struggle to find a nice airy dress, well done!

TodayIsabetterone · 01/08/2026 15:57

Glad you like the dress @FuzzyPuffling fab whrn things arrive and you love them!

@TeaAndStrumpets you must have needed that nap but I hear you with the โ€˜just in case we need itโ€™ packing. My DH is similar. Weโ€™re trying to gradually declutter a storage area upstairs as itโ€™s been overflowing since DS came home from uni and I decided to do the move 5 items at a time so it feels less overwhelming. I wandered past him with yesterdays items ( 3 for bin, 2 for charity bag) and could see he was dying to ask what Iโ€™d picked up and was throwing away but made himself say good job instead ๐Ÿ˜‚

Enjoy your home grown runner beans @danglethedingle

Trip to MILs complete and freezer sorted. Now to actually use some of it up whilst we know whatโ€™s in there! Not the most exciting day but a job ticked off โ€˜The Listโ€™! Rest time now.

This made me smile! I sometimes feel like I'm shoplifting trying to smuggle things out of the house! Unfortunately I need DH to lift boxes etc so he tends to argue over what I'm trying to get rid of. To pacify him I will set things aside to ask If DD2 wants anything before it goes to charity. A real faff for her, but I think she just keeps it in her boot then offloads it ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm glad its as nice as you thought it would be, I hate it when you order something that looks lovely, but then the fabric is itchy or too see through or something. So disapointing.

I got two tops in the sale yesterday for holiday. Both fairly awful but I can't be bothering to send them back. Even getting size 18, they still think women don't have boobs these days and want to show their midriff ๐Ÿซฃ

I have made it to our holiday cottage. It's perfect, just like last time. Journey was slightly crappy but better than many I've had so not too bad. Decided to just go straight here and quick services stop, no scenic routes or messing about. It was a good call.

Supermarkets delivery will be here in an hour or so. Just chilling now.

I've used all my visible pace points and then some, so quiet rest time for me for next 24 hours. We will go see the sea tomorrow but that will be it. No big efforts. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Yay! A huge well done @MewithME you've made it and now you can rest and recover and keep expectations low tomorrow. Enjoy resting in a different environment. I find that alone does a world of good. Does DS have plenty to occupy himself with?

Yes @TeaAndStrumpets one item was an empty shoe box for recycling and as I sauntered by I was fully expecting a โ€˜ Oh can we keep that box, it might be useful for posting anything up to DS?โ€™ โ€™ ๐Ÿ˜‚ I usually agree, put it in the utility room, then recycle when heโ€™s forgotten. Though I needed a box this week to post a parcel and couldnโ€™t find the right size as Iโ€™d recently recycled them so all so maybe he has a fair point ๐Ÿ˜‚ but sometimes the number of โ€˜might be usefulโ€™ boxes gets a bit silly!

TeaAndStrumpets · 01/08/2026 16:59

Have a great holiday @MewithME you've made a great start! The weather is less stifling too, so you've got a good week.

@TodayIsabetterone any sturdy cardboard box is kept, in this house!

MewithME · 01/08/2026 17:22

@TodayIsabetterone yes, he's pretty good at chilling. Games console, laptop, private woods up the lane and we're working our way through all the Spiderman films too so Andrew Garfield awaits after tea. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ahh sounds great @MewithME
How funny DD went to watch the new Spider-Man movie this week and has told me weโ€™re going to watch the others again this week!

martha79 · 01/08/2026 18:08

Hope you have a lovely holiday @MewithME

I've done a lot of napping. And put up an appropriate picture in the bedroom ๐Ÿ˜€

The Toby McGuire era was not great but quite funny for the ropey CGI and sexism. Note how many women have zero lines or personality other than 'screaming at stuff ' ๐Ÿ˜†

Have a lovely holiday @MewithME!

@martha79I love that picture I think we all could do with one in our bedrooms just to remind us ๐Ÿ˜‚

I have to admit I am partial to keeping boxes also @TodayIsabetterone the 5 items at a time mantra sounds like something I would need to get onboard with but unfortunately Iโ€™m like your DH @TeaAndStrumpets ๐Ÿ˜‚

enjoy your runner beans @danglethedingle

I definitely will not hold it against you if it rains at the moment @FuzzyPuffling I am over this heat!

over done it a little today pottering turned into doing a quite labour intensive task that has been bugging me for ages - feel good that itโ€™s done but know I will pay for it over next few days- ah well will make sure to rest and resist the urge to do anything for a few days now. DH is out for the day but Iโ€™m going to be in trouble when he gets home ๐Ÿ˜‚

TeaAndStrumpets · 02/08/2026 05:53

Morning all!

The weather is on the turn, for sure. DH was up before 5 and the bed got chilly instantly so I am awake and having an early breakfast.

I've got a long day alone in the house . @Dozymoo42 I am just as bad as you when DH is out I find things to do that I shouldn't, it's too tempting! I really want to tackle some laundry but might just have a rummage and find some of my t shirts in the basket..that hardly counts as overdoing things, right?

DH has taken over the washing the last year or so, but he has his own way of approaching the job and he's not interested in how it looks, just how quickly it's over. He just crams everything in tightly and doesn't care about creases. I wash my t shirts very gently and they come out crease free!

Hope everyone has a nice day.

martha79 · 02/08/2026 07:29

Morning all, it does feel fresher this morning. Feeling a bit more energetic today - going to potter about this morning, plan to go to the open day at the local community garden (five mins walk there) and then maybe build another one of the lurking flatpack things later. Back to work tomorrow, hmmph.

That sounds lovely (apart from the flat packs!)

Oioiqueen · 02/08/2026 07:55

It feels fresh this morning but I'm conscious it's due to be 28 today and 32 tomorrow. I'm so over this weather now and the constant flies that keep getting in the house. We live rurally so it's been intense this year, had nothing on the south West Coast last week.

I'm now trying to work out what I can do with the kids tomorrow morning after my blood test and then hibernate during the afternoon.

TeaAndStrumpets · 02/08/2026 09:07

I've already been stupid and the day is young! I stripped the bed and put the duvet cover in the wash, put clean pillow cases and bottom sheet on. I then managed to ignore the dust bunnies in the bathroom but got annoyed by the limescale around the taps so gave them a soak and scrub. Now I've got costochondritis and I'm in agony, just waiting for my electric hot water bottle to heat up. My body is not fit for purpose!

DH will be very annoyed with me. He tries so hard to do household things but just doesn't notice details, and I hate to give him extra things to do. When he's here I'm fine because I'm distracted, but left to myself I hate my environment.

I hate flies too @Oioiqueen and use those mesh domes to cover anything left out in the kitchen. We will be in the depths of the country when we move and I have thought about flies etc. so have looked at screens for the windows already. My cousin uses an electric zapper like they have in shops. She's the original tree hugging animal conservationist but she says they are quite happy to hear the snapping noises as they sit out on their patio ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Oioiqueen · 02/08/2026 09:12

@TeaAndStrumpets sounds painful, try to take it easy. It's hard though when you can see the little details, same in my household. I'm debating pulling out the kids beds and vacuuming behind / under them today. Something DH would never think about.

Yes the flies are irritating to say the least. We have a fly screen but it's about two inches short at the bottom despite DH measuring the frame. I'm debating an apple cider and washing up liquid method possibly. An electric fly swatter might be the next thing. Keeping it somewhere that DS5 can't get hold of it would be interesting. I have visions of him chasing DD7 around with it and zapping her on the ass or something hahaha!

Aha, no what my cousin has is a box that can sit on the top of a cupboard, like the ones that hang up in shops. I know the electric swatter things you mean, but these just sit there and attract then electrocute anything buzzing around. You can get ones shaped like a lantern that can sit on a table or hang up near a window. Loads on Amazon.

TeaAndStrumpets · 02/08/2026 09:35

When her cat's flea treatment suddenly stopped working DD had little bowls of cider vinegar and washing up liquid in water everywhere. Fleas go to warmth so she used tealight warmers (well supervised!) to stand the bowls on. Caught a huge amount! Poor cat, not his fault but it was a nightmare hoovering and spraying.

Oioiqueen · 02/08/2026 09:44

I tried a lantern one and it was useless. Caught one in a week, we must have some mutant ones here that can sense it a mile off haha!

One of my cats used to get fleas every November, you could set your watch by it honestly. In hindsight I think it was when our central heating went on each year so must have helped them breed. I remember DH going ape one year when I was pregnant and him having to spray the house with indorex, despite me saying I did it twice a year normally and never mentioned it to him. Touch wood we've never had them again since we've moved and gone down to one cat.

martha79 · 02/08/2026 10:03

Oh gosh, that brings back itchy memories - my previous cat had a few years of getting fleas every summer and they loved biting me ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I've just ordered some of those sticky window fly traps that look like yellow flowers- a bit grim when you peel them off but I seem to remember them being effective. I had to throw out some bananas last week as I'd left them out (and not been in the flat for a couple of days) and they'd been invaded!
