Pleasant here at 22ยฐ. DD2 is hosting 5 x 12 year old boys for a sleepover in the garden, although I doubt they slept much! Asked how it was going and she says they've found a dead rabbit in a ditch and are poking it with a stick.

Making Memories

I feel like I had a rare, somewhat productive morning! Iโ€™ve recently started ADHD medication so I managed three-four hours of work- hopefully in the next few weeks Iโ€™ll be able to take two a day but I have to monitor the medication especially carefully due to my naturally fast heart rate. So far so good though, so Iโ€™m hoping the doctor will say itโ€™s fine!

We also seem to have a rare day where itโ€™s not boiling, stiflingly hot. Itโ€™s nice not to feel like a melted puddle of tired, overheated gloop for once!

That is brilliant - well done, it's always good to find something that works.

Stay cool! โ„

Hope your flat feels like home now you've woken up there @martha79

Any sign of the neighbours yet?

I've heard them going in and out (and wandering about upstairs) but not met anyone yet.

Not sorted the sofa but I do finally have a mattress - if you ever have the opportunity to have something delivered by DX, I highly recommend avoiding that if you possibly can. It arrived at last (after phoning them and getting a vague 'afternoon' slot and 'we'll try' to pass on instructions) and the guy said it was doorstep delivery only so couldn't bring it upstairs. My lovely friend (who is in his 70s) managed to help me shove it up the stairs and unwrap it, so I can now sleep on that, albeit on the floor for now.

Last few bits moved over too and keys handed over, so that's me done. Just need to figure out a logical way to unpack/ move things around so I can then get someone in to build the bed. But for now I'm going to lie on my lovely mattress!

You are gradually coming up in the world, going from broken sofa bed to mattress to complete bed!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 30/07/2026 17:21

@martha79 enjoy the new mattress!

Lovely to hear I'm not the only one loving warm winter clothing. I have a Comfy - Oodie type thing - which is lovely & warm but can be a little bulky for day to day moving around. Nice to cuddle up in though. I have some other lovely warm jumpers as well. And my "yeti legs" - long furry sock/leg warmers to keep my knees warm - snugglepaws. Pic attached for anyone interested.
Heated throws for chair & bed as well for the cold days.
I sound 102!!! I'm only in my mid 50s!

What are you up to today if you have a chronic illness ๐Ÿงต10! Summer Edition ๐ŸŒž
JewelleryCat · 30/07/2026 17:42

@CoffeeBeansGalore they look very interesting, do they fit well? I love my heated blanket

FuzzyPuffling · 30/07/2026 17:46

I have a heated blanket, and a furry oodie- rip-off thing ( known as my muu muu).
Ah....roll on winter. It's so much easier to keep warm than cool.

So true!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 30/07/2026 18:27

@JewelleryCat yes, very well. Soft elasticated top & slightly stretchy. The feet can be folded back (like fingerless gloves with a mitten over top). They go up to mid thigh. I need to keep my knees warm or I risk them collapsing & ending up on the floor.
I've got a few pairs now.
With these & my jumpers I look like a cross between a yeti & the Michelin man ๐Ÿ˜.

JewelleryCat · 30/07/2026 19:26

@CoffeeBeansGalore what do you wear them with? I love my fluffy socks and Iโ€™m very particular but if you wear pj trousers, donโ€™t they stick to the trousers, cause friction?

Oioiqueen · 30/07/2026 22:09

@TeaAndStrumpets brilliant, I can't unsee those tampon boxes now haha

We are in the south West at the moment. My son stood outside the door waiting for us as and announced it was raining. I honestly thought he was having me on as the sun was blinding me. It actually was drizzling, the most random thing ever as there was barely any cloud cover. Fatigue is beginning to hit now as my brain is starting not to retain info or just fading out. Glad we are heading home tomkrrow, been a great week but I need my own bed and routine again.

martha79 · 31/07/2026 05:33

Morning all. Slept better last night on the mattress (and it's darker in the bedroom, even without curtains).

Love all the cosy winter things - various people who helped me move commented on my collection of heated blankets etc. Someone gave me plug in heated gloves for Christmas last year, they're great.

Made it to the nearest supermarket yesterday evening - it's only five minutes walk but it's all pretty steep uphill on the way there. At least that means it's downhill with the shopping I suppose!

Going to try to mostly ignore the unpacking today, have a rest and do some nice things. Hope you all have a good one.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 31/07/2026 06:58

Morning all.
Gorgeous start here with blue sky & sunshine. A bit chilly at 6ยฐc though.

@martha79 glad you had a comfortable night.

@JewelleryCat I usually wear them over leggings. With pyjamas as long as the pjs are properly pulled up to start with then they don't tug. But I move slowly so I'm not sure whether that makes a difference. I think the last pair I bought were around ยฃ6 so they are not expensive just to try. They really make a difference to me in the cold. Wash well on 30ยฐc but I don't tumble dry them.

TeaAndStrumpets · 31/07/2026 07:32

Morning all!

It was slightly cooler overnight, and forecast 22ยฐ later. I can live with that.

I loved all the cosy talk yesterday, I think we're all well prepared for cooler weather!

Your flat sounds very well situated @martha79 . I hope you are feeling settled.

Another day of IBS pain, I always get it when I'm trying to push through a crash, along with night time adrenaline rushes and full body twitches. Really need to chill, so a day of doing nothing today ๐Ÿ™

Hope you all have a lovely day!

FuzzyPuffling · 31/07/2026 07:41

@martha79 re the supermarket. Do you have a wheely shopping trolley? I'm only a couple of minutes from our supermarket and I find mine an absolute boon. Pulling it is so much easier than carrying bags.

My DH refuses to use it, as he thinks it's naff, but i don't care!

I don't - I tend to use a backpack for everything. I wonder if I could borrow/ find a cheap one in a charity shop to have a try though. Slightly worried I might lose control of it on the downhill journey home (it's really quite steep ๐Ÿคฃ).

FuzzyPuffling · 31/07/2026 08:23

I think we bought ours from Lidl- Amazon do them too.
It's especially good for heavy things like cat food, milk and cauliflowers.

ValleyClouds · 31/07/2026 08:58

Morning!

TodayIsabetterone · 31/07/2026 09:47

Morning all ๐Ÿ‘‹
Still chilling in bed, cuddling dippy dog and contemplating a shower as my hair needs washing but cba right now! Outing yesterday to dog park/ mil visit was lovely. Slept all afternoon but still woke up tired today so probably a quiet one needed.
Still warm ( 25) but a bit of a breeze so probably sit outside and read once Iโ€™m organised.

Hope you can have a break from unpacking @martha79

Sorry the IBS pain is flaring @TeaAndStrumpets hope it settles with an easier day.

MewithME · 31/07/2026 10:32

Morning all.

Well done and congratulations @martha79 . I hope you will be very happy in your new home.

I have to say, as much as the town I live in is not my dream location, the thought of staying in this house until I die is quite appealing! I moved so much as a young woman. I've been in this house ten years this Christmas. Have barely tackled the decorating really. Had a good run (recovering from trauma and building a new career) for the first five years then COVID and MEcfs so haven't got far since. I have at least ordered new curtains this summer though. And a lovely friend fixed one of the doors which was sticking.

I have survived the birthday antics just about. DS had a wonderful day and he's very happy. Phew! We are going on holiday tomorrow and as usual I have that. ..'how the hell am I going to manage that ' feeling today. Adrenaline will carry me through I expect.

I must pack today. Done a bit but I've been struggling. Currently sat on the bed mustering some energy!

@TodayIsabetterone that sounds like fun! I think those dog fields are a brilliant idea.
