There are some posters who pop up repeatedly saying it's 'boring', childlike and attention seeking. Find something less boring to focus on maybe

Totally agree. It's so boring, and worn, and tired. The criticisms don't match up to anything I've seen. At all.

Yes, watched it and enjoyed it, largely very clean play, and obviously a good match result for England. France played very well in second half to come back from behind to put everyone on the edge of their seats.

Bellingham comes across as a real sweetheart. Not sure why some posters think he's arrogant? He's just crazy talented but acts very mature and nice.

It isn’t a boring sport. The fact that billions of people around the world find it hugely entertaining, it is full of passion, skill, fury and heartbreak is absolutely testament to that.
You are absolutely entitled to find it boring and dislike it for whatever reason you choose, but for you to be right and billions wrong seems unlikely here.
if it’s that boring also seems odd to be hanging out on a thread chatting about it. If you’re so much more enlightened there must be so many other things worth doing surely?

No, I didn't watch it but I did check on the score every now and again and I think 'the boys done good'.

I'm off to check Radio 706. Is there a one-day match on between India and England today? Our boys 'done good' in the last one but they hardly get a mention.

Soccer used to be a winter sport. I hope Andy Burnham makes it go back to September to May only.

Boring isn't an objective judgement. You finding it boring doesn't make other people who don't find it boring wrong. Quite why people think their opinion is fact is beyond me.

Are you confusing arrogance with confidence and self belief? I love how football now is actually all the skills on the pitch rather than the ridiculous celebrity from the 90s. The England team has some of the best footballers in the world. Harry Kane is a contender for the Ballon d’Or. The team have carried themselves in a way that we can all be proud of.

i find cricket boring, so surprise surprise I don’t watch it.
But I would never ever criticise anyone else for enjoying cricket. Because I am not bitter and I have an understanding that we all enjoy different things.
I certainly would not watch a game and then say it was boring.
You need to feel sorry for these people. They are not all there.

Ah well it turned out to be a bit more fun than that and it seems like they enjoyed it (and the French did once they woke up in the second half).

But generally speaking I don't really see the point. Just give both losing semi-finalists bronze medals (as they do in some sports at the Olympics, but not others) and be done with it and let them go home for a rest!

and it's laughable that the British government would have much influence on when it's held. For one thing there are much bigger issues for the government to deal with than when the World Cup is held.

I don't think many posters who comment on this thread know much about football 😂

With the exception of Qatar (for health and safety reasons as it's ca. 50 degrees in the shade in Qatar in the summer) World Cups ware always played in the summer usually and no the UK government has zero influence over FIFA sadly.

Yes there’s a one day today. The reason many people are less fussed is there are so many different forms of the game, an ODI series is one of many and the stakes are fairly low. I go to the odd one but test cricket feels more meaningful and exciting.

not sure what Andy burnham’s got to do with the football calendar but you presumably know he is a huge football fan and lifelong fan of Everton.

It seems many felt that way, apparently Jordan Henderson gave a brilliant speech to them beforehand how he regretted the loss to Belgium in the 2018 bronze final, and how it’s still a World Cup match and how they never know if/when they’ll play in another one.

I find it hard that anyone could say yesterday’s match was not worth the bother and I hope the team take a little consolation from it. They came away with their best finish in 60 years, it wa a hugely entertaining and I think they deserve to be proud

It's been said before but remember they had to play (and win) more knockout games than any other England team! To be the best out of 16 teams is not the same as being the best out of 48!! Not even comparable. Coming 3rd 🥉 out of 48 teams is a superb result!

Of course it was worth the bother.
They did not give up.
Shame their courage is not typical of a lot of flakey people around us.
