Mine hasn't shown much interest in this World Cup which is very unusual.

I think it's mainly due to FIFA's decisions and Trump's interference. It will be interesting to see him make the presentation all about him. He'll be so honoured to be handing out those beautiful FIFA rings 🤣🤣🤣

I'll be watching if I can stay awake, even if the match feels a bit meh I still like to watch them play, and there's always the hope that enough goals are scored that Messi doesn't get the golden boot.

Apparently England have played for third place twice before in 1990 and 2018, losing both times.

It's too late for me to be arsed to watch it, and I'm with pp who think 3rd or 4th is immaterial. I might watch the final, or I might simply hope Spain win and then watch highlights of Argentina being beaten.

I might watch a bit, I feel very sad for them, I wouldn't react to play in this consolation match. I also think we are forgetting they are the 4th best team in the world at this point and that is actually something to be proud of. I just don't know if I can face more heartbreak, if they come out fighting I'm in, if it's painful I'm out. I do also have to be up at 6 to get to the airport.... I won't be watching the final, where we are going is two hours ahead of here so it doesn't start until 10pm and we have an early start and a lot of travel to get through tomorrow, and a 7 year old DS who I won't be keeping up that late to watch a match I'm not invested in. I've watched a lot of this world cup, all England matches and plenty of others, but it feels like time to move on now. Nations League starts in September with our first match being Spain!

Just watching England V Argentina rugby at the moment, booing and hissing all the way through our anthem again....

It will still be the best we've ever done though.

I'm watching and I've decided to watch tomorrow as well, supporting Spain of course. I want to see how dirty Argentina okay and what more crap they get away with. Or not.

Nope. Currently watching England beat Argentina in the Rugby Nations. Far more satisfying!

Just shows the difference when someone with a chance having a go as opposed to the extra pointless passes that England have been doing.

To anyone who is still wondering why people don’t like the English, this thread is a good example. Acting like the 3rd place play off is beneath you when so many countries would be delighted to be there. Do you also think it’s meaningless and pointless for athletes to compete in other competitions when they’ve no chance to win? Like friendlies shouldn’t be played because there’s nothing at stake there either? If I was a footballer, I would be happy to have the chance to end the campaign on a win. Unless you think you can’t, which means it’s just sour grapes.

It’s the same for any big footballing nations. Arg/Spain would be the same. I applaud the smaller teams who’ve turned it into something positive - and I’d love for England to win and for Messi to be denied the record - but I can understand they are still deeply disappointed and I don’t think this is why people dislike England football at all.
