Are you watching England V France tonight?

So gutted that this isn’t the semi final that we’re watching right now 😭 very bittersweet but this would still be an amazing achievement and the best England have performed in the World Cup for 60 years so hey got to take the positives! Love the energy that Rashford and Saka bring, I wish we’d have seen them more and as a Man Utd supported I’m gutted that Kobbie won’t get to play in this match and will end with approx 0 minutes in this World Cup

I think France have given up though.

They look really tired.

England are playing so well. So proud of them.

ZebraPyjamas · 18/07/2026 22:55

countrylife00 · 18/07/2026 22:26

Of course they are. They are playing their top team.

No they’re not 😂 6 of the players that started have not been regular starters this World Cup!

England are playing particularly well, France are just playing shite!

What a star Declan Rice has been throughout though.

Apparently Chelsea ‘let him go’ from their youth academy at 14. Picked up by West Ham and then Arsenal.

The final will be interesting then. I am going to a friend’s house for a football WC final party. Do I take Argentine wine and jerky or Spanish wine and tapas?

Take Cava and Tapas.

Netcurtainnelly · 18/07/2026 22:59

😲 Well done England.

We are fighting to the end, even though they are broken. They have come out determined.

Viviennemary · 18/07/2026 23:01

Shame they didn't get their act together in the last game.

Team Spain.
Could be feisty

We’ve finished watching the rugby England v Argentina. They didn’t allow a try, ref was having an argument with the VAR ref. Argentina lost, haha!
We’ve now switched over to the football. 4-0 👌🏽

Should say England are not playing particularly well!

KnitFastDieWarm · 18/07/2026 23:04

I’m so damn proud of them. They probably wanted to crawl into a hole and cry for the last few days and they’ve gone ‘fuck it, let’s show the world what we can do with the game we love’, they’ve put their england shirts on with pride and they’ve come out swinging. What a great example they’re setting to kids across the nation.

To anyone who is still wondering why people don’t like the English, this thread is a good example. Acting like the 3rd place play off is beneath you when so many countries would be delighted to be there. Do you also think it’s meaningless and pointless for athletes to compete in other competitions when they’ve no chance to win? Like friendlies shouldn’t be played because there’s nothing at stake there either? If I was a footballer, I would be happy to have the chance to end the campaign on a win. Unless you think you can’t, which means it’s just sour grapes.

Don’t worry, we’ll try not to lose too much sleep over people who think xenophobia is acceptable as long as it’s aimed at the English. Oh and speaking of arrogance, Talking about English arrogance while proudly declaring ‘everyone loves the Scots’ is some Olympic level lack of self awareness. Maybe stop judging 60 million people by a stereotype and people might take your point more seriously. Come on England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Well, that’s their problem. England are playing an international game of football, and professional teams play to win. France can play or not. England are winning a one off game like it should be played.

Erm. Yes. Yes it is France’s problem.

England are being professional.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 18/07/2026 23:11

France up the effort from 25% to 50% and immediately score 💩

Boymum776 · 18/07/2026 23:13

@ZebraPyjamas
If saying ‘I don’t like the English’ about an entire nationality isn’t xenophobic, what would you call it?

Csqueen · 18/07/2026 23:17

Oh dear 🤦‍♀️

The quoted poster did not say “I don’t like the English”

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 18/07/2026 23:20

Suspect Deschamps was rather animated at half time. The French 1st half performance was disgracefully lazy, and really disrespectful to their own coach considering this is his final match after 14 years. 4 subs suggests he wasn't best pleased.

tigger1001 · 18/07/2026 23:20

countrylife00 · 18/07/2026 22:39

I take it you are not English….

Plenty of football fans don't particularly enjoy international games though. I know several who love the game, follow their team but couldn't care less about international games.

im the other way, prefer watching international games, but can understand why some don't enjoy it.

Boymum776 · 18/07/2026 23:23

No, they said, ‘To anyone still wondering why people don’t like the English,’ which assumes ‘people’ collectively don’t like the English and then attributes that to English people as a group. It’s still a broad generalisation based on nationality. Replace ‘English’ with almost any other nationality and ask yourself whether you’d shrug it off as harmless.

Well I would say it’s a pretty accurate assumption? Fair or not!
