If money and space was no object what animals would you have?

I’d love to have a huge herd of Guinea pigs. We currently have 2 as don’t have the space for more. I would also love to have capybaras.

DH would have a load of labradors.

All the greyhounds
Some goats, donkeys, sheep, chickens and geese

Halfbeaklily · 10/07/2026 13:19

All the little songbirds that are kept in tiny cages in Asia. Let them out in big aviaries.

NO, Goats are definitely not happy alone, they are herd animals. We have four and they don’t smell at all either. They are amazing pets - so friendly and affectionate but they do require some work to muck out their stables and keep their hooves trimmed.

Thank you, very informative! Okay, I’ll have 4. How do you trim their hooves?

tarheelbaby · 10/07/2026 13:24

DH always used to joke that he wanted a pony for his birthday. (it was totally a joke; he didn't ride and we have a paved courtyard for a garden)
BUT
what he really wanted was a llama.

Excellent, good choice. They are so cute. We use a milking stand to keep them still and just lift up one leg at a time to trim. There are videos online about what to trim off.

I want pigs too but my partner has “put his foot down” and said no. That’s a definite maybe to me, just needs further persuasion 😀

A wife to keep my mini Schnauzer company and to start our own line.
I have a feeling she’d become the ruler of the roost, though. He’s so laid back he’s almost horizontal and that’s what I’d like to pass on to the next generation.

I’d also like a talking African Grey parrot but I have welfare concerns.
And a self sufficient terrarium.
And maybe some micro pigs.

bluestar22 · 10/07/2026 13:29

If I had a lot of land and the right facilities I’d have some vultures and secretary birds .

TheDutchHouse · 10/07/2026 13:36

Definitely a Penguin or two !

Horses.

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 10/07/2026 13:39

A Shire horse
Ducks
Emus
Chickens

SadiraOfTyr · 10/07/2026 13:41

Red squirrels, harvest mice, and dormice. For a proper re-introduction and breeding programme obviously. (I would never release any of them).

JustAMum42 · 10/07/2026 13:41

All the animals 😍

and a massive gated estate so I can keep the people out 🤣🤣🤣

unsync · 10/07/2026 13:47

Alpacas, goats, donkeys, hens and pigs. I've had hens and pigs and they are both fun. Pigs are so interesting too. I'd put the chooks in with the alpacas. I'd also like some runner ducks and a couple of tortoises. And then someone to do all the mucking out, early get ups and feeds (especially in winter).

AllotmentTime · 10/07/2026 13:48

Since this is fantasyland: a litter of cocker spaniel puppies and a litter of tabby kittens, please. They'll all grow up together so they'll get along fine.

BoomBoomMrFox · 10/07/2026 13:48

We have the money and the space but probably not the time or the energy for more critters. If we did, it would be mini donks, micro pigs and alpacas to add to the goats, chickens and dogs

Guinea-pigs . Herds of them
Each herd would have their boar (castrated) and his wives .
They'd have a massive shed with floor space , hay boxes and outdoor grass runs. Fort Knox security .

Or:
Black Cats . We have two . I would happily have a group of them and confuse myself trying to work out who is who.
Our have differences ( subtle) in their actions so if I see one breeze past I know if it's him or her by how they move .

Guinea-pigs are lovely creatures , noisy , greedy , messy but endearing little rodents

Tiddlywinks63 · 10/07/2026 13:53

A dog rescue for ill treated dogs, with acres of land, woods and water to rehabilitate them. I have 2 rescues at the moment who will be my last after a lifetime of having ill treated rescues.
My age and ill health means no more 😢

Aren’t they the stupidest creatures on the planet?

Morepositivemum · 10/07/2026 13:55

a horse and donkeys but I’d need to add more time too, although if I have that money I’m quitting my job so😉

I always admire people who take on rescue dogs. I have enough trouble training dogs from puppies so I don’t think I could cope with a rescue dog with a traumatic past.

dudsville · 10/07/2026 13:56

I would love to have a cow and lamb/sheep rescue.
