If money and space was no object what animals would you have?

I’d love to have a huge herd of Guinea pigs. We currently have 2 as don’t have the space for more. I would also love to have capybaras.

DH would have a load of labradors.

Aren’t you bothered that they stink to high heaven??

We fed some each day on holiday… they totally ponged! Cute and funny though🐐

We never really noticed the smell, we got her as we had goats milk for one of my sisters. I remember hating the milk! I remember we spent ages picking a load of elderberries for my Mum to make some jam and the goat managed to get to them and ate the lot!

Some Donkeys those cute Swiss sheep and several Capybaras although I think that would be unethical and need a licence but in my eyes they are just giant hamsters 😂

Kidsandhouse · 10/07/2026 12:49

Still none

Nitgel · 10/07/2026 12:50

Runner ducks.

OVienna · 10/07/2026 12:51

An owl or two (if that would be better for them.)
Donkeys and rescue horses, 100%.
If I were offered a goat, I would not refuse.

17 cats

That's a strangely specific number!

ForeverNowWithin · 10/07/2026 12:55

Loads of dogs and a few donkeys. Probably a whole family of orang utans.

Dontgetstuckinthepast · 10/07/2026 12:56

A lake, small wood and capybaras.
Giant Schnauzer.
Lots of guinea pigs.
Bees.

AnneLovesGilbert · 10/07/2026 13:00

Are goats happy alone? If so I’ll have a goat, two pigs and some chickens please. How many chickens do you have to have as a minimum?

ZookeeperSE · 10/07/2026 13:04

All my favourite hoofstock...
Rhino
Okapi
Bison
Buffalo
Dik Dik
Also, not hoofstock, but Capybara and Giant Anteater.
Not Sable though, they'd just try to kill me.

I might quite like a herd of Golden Retrievers too.

Yetanotherone12 · 10/07/2026 13:06

NO, Goats are definitely not happy alone, they are herd animals. We have four and they don’t smell at all either. They are amazing pets - so friendly and affectionate but they do require some work to muck out their stables and keep their hooves trimmed.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 10/07/2026 13:12

Lots of rescue dogs, a few alpacas, guinea pigs, pygmy goats, chickens. Ducks and geese on a pond. As many as I could fit in really!

Jerrybalanitis · 10/07/2026 13:12

I live abroad and there is a full size Macaw in a pet shop in a tiny cage with no toys and no stimulation. During the day (up to 50c) they put the cage in the window. When people want to look at him, the guy drags him out by his legs. I have a couple of rescue birds, xats, a horse and some tortoises and a garden full of stray cats, but I really cant go and buy him because I think it might be the straw that break the camels back for my marriage. Strangely, nobody hurts or abandons camels here, they are too valuable. Also the rescues say you must not buy them because you are just making the vile trade worse. But if I were free, I would buy him and promise him a lifetime of safety. Although he would likely outlive me.

Magpiecomplex · 10/07/2026 13:13

Tortoises. Nothing else, just tortoises.

Olderbutt · 10/07/2026 13:14

Pygmy goats and some Alpacas!

FlipFlopZebra · 10/07/2026 13:14

Oh I’m with you! Capybaras are amazing I even got as far at researching what council permits and permission I’d need to have a capybara 😆 it would be doable if I had the time/space/money

Redflagsabounded · 10/07/2026 13:15

Oh yes! A massive aviary for rescue parrots!

Tortoises. Nothing else, just tortoises.

They make a hell of a lot of noise during the mating season and produce a lot of babies. I did ask if I could spay or castrate them but apparently that was hilarious.

MaidMiriam · 10/07/2026 13:17

A cockatoo
Tortoises
More chinchillas
More guinea pigs
All rescues
I'd hire an assistant to help with cleaning!

Squirrelsnut · 10/07/2026 13:17

Lots of cats.
A few small dogs.
Pygmy goats.
A few alpacas.
Chickens and ducks

AitkenDrum1970 · 10/07/2026 13:19
