If money and space was no object what animals would you have?

I’d love to have a huge herd of Guinea pigs. We currently have 2 as don’t have the space for more. I would also love to have capybaras.

DH would have a load of labradors.

Anything that needs rescuing. Plus a giraffe and a seal.

JulietteHasAGun · 10/07/2026 13:58

Raccoons. I have Canadian extended family and some have semi domesticated rescued raccoons and they are so cute.

i did see someone in the uk on tiktok selling skunks yesterday!

gingercat02 · 10/07/2026 13:59

Horses, donkeys and goats. Loads of them

theleftsuitcase · 10/07/2026 14:01

Assuming I had the necessary skills and world-class facilities, so we’re definitely talking fantasyland here, I’d love to have gibbons and lemurs.

Cherrysoup · 10/07/2026 14:02

A field of coloured cobs, not to ride, just to look after and have as pampered pets. I miss my cob, he was like a big dog, fabulous horse.

ToadRage · 10/07/2026 14:03

Red pandas.

Aren’t they the stupidest creatures on the planet?

No Guinea pigs are far from stupid. Ours know all their routines and start pacing if the food is late! You can’t open the fridge door or rustle a packet in our house without setting off the ‘wheek’ alarm.

Ah , hell yes .
That's part of their charm though .

DD and I had ( over the years ) four sows and four boars in various groups

Two of the boars were castrated to have their wife-herds.
We always said it was a good job they were sterile !
Not the sharpest knives in the drawer !

A huge gang of golden Labrador retrievers 😍 it would be heaven

Sounds lovely in theory, it's not so great in practice (I have five!).😁Definitely one of those 'grass is always greener' dreams!

Edit: Assuming you mean actual Goldens, not yellow labs!

Capybara, Llama and 2 Alpacas - apparently Alpacas get lonely

annonymousse · 10/07/2026 14:11

Multiple dogs, alpacas, donkeys and some capybaras. Total fantasy option an orangutan

LostTheGoodScissors · 10/07/2026 14:13

A chameleon, African fat tailed lizard and a blue tongued skink, probably a Uromastyx too. I’d have a tank of harvest mice and a tank of jelly fish. I’d have some degus and maybe a skunk!

RumAndCola · 10/07/2026 14:13

If I have to do the work then I won’t have any. I’m too easily distracted and not disciplined enough to be a good owner and I love animals too much to be a bad owner.

AddictedToBooks · 10/07/2026 14:14

Everything except jellyfish and squid.
It would be my dream to own an enormous animal sanctuary where any creature can live its life in safety - but I'm also big on animals being able to have their natural habitat so I'm aware it's a contradiction.
I'm just a sap that loves creatures - apart from jellyfish and squid

They know routine as they are very food orientated so if the fridge opens or you eat a bag of crisps they chorus "we have mouths too y'know" .

Ours were in the pig house , DD and I took their supper to them, they started wheeking like mad when they heard us . These are prey animals !
One of our boys stood in long grass with piggie pooh on his feet , not even bothered if it was his own.
Another one would perch at the edge of the haybox , do a massive pee and his brother skipped in after him having run through the pee. "I smell of pee not even my pee"

As I always said to defend them, it is part of their charm.
They could bite you , they're rodents . But they rarely bite . They're not as athletic as other small furries . Very vunerable .
If I wanted clever , I;d have gone for rats Grin

Davros · 10/07/2026 14:15

I was going to say a couple of elephants but I see we’re being a bit more realistic than that 😆

Yes! I do buy abd free lobsters, I know they are likely to die but at least they are in the sea and not being mocked and boiled alive

theleftsuitcase · 10/07/2026 14:18

I’d also like Malabar squirrels and some Sand Lizards. And burrowing owls. I should probably just move into a zoo.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 10/07/2026 14:18

I’d love more dogs, a horse or two, bunnies, geese, chickens ☺️

I think that’s illegal now (to boil lobsters alive)

Yes this is also true, we do have one who can jump, she managed to climb the stairs! We couldn’t find her for ages one afternoon and finally found her sat at the top of the stairs. At least she had the sense not to try and get back down.

I can share my elephants with @AitkenDrum1970 as long as she does all the work while the elephants squirt me with cool water

One of ours could run upstairs ( she was sneaked in by her pregnant Mum who was my piggie , only had the one piglet who was a tiny little girl ) she'd bolt upstairs and into the bedroom.
One of mine could climb down , we put them on the half landing , thought they could run about there . No . she tried to make an escape .
(These were piggies when I was a kid)

Our biggest boy ( DD s pig) could leap from the travel box ( my knee height) that we used to bring them up to the house and back to the pig shed . We learned to open it near the haybed for soft landings Grin
Mine never read the Guinea-Pigs Books !
