Wonderwall for our Anthem.

I reckon Wonderwall would make a great National anthem instead of the current dirge of God Save----.I can't stand football and watched the fans singing it and they were so passionate.

OP posts:

Yeah, great way to turn the UK into a total laughing stock 🙄

TheHorrorsPersist · 03/07/2026 11:55

Who is “our”? England?

Darragon · 03/07/2026 11:55

🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

RaraRachael · 03/07/2026 11:57

It's a dirge so a no from me

the80sweregreat · 03/07/2026 11:58

I like the song, but not for a National anthem.

Nofeckingway · 03/07/2026 11:58

An ode to a woman that you then divorced? No way Noel .

UniquePinkSwan · 03/07/2026 12:01

Get a grip

Cantthinkofanewusernameffs · 03/07/2026 12:05

Would Scotland change theirs to Yes Sir, I Can Boogie?

HollyGolightly4 · 03/07/2026 12:06

I do think our national anthem is dire. Also, King just doesn't sound right!

I love seeing the other countries!

minipie · 03/07/2026 12:07

I have no idea why Wonderwall is so successful, the tune is a dirge and Noel admitted he plucked half the lyrics out of thin air.

LilyBunch25 · 03/07/2026 12:08

Yes, great idea..........and maybe Cigarettes and Alcohol for certain events too? 🙄

BillieWiper · 03/07/2026 12:09

Haha. Ridiculous. Even Noel Gallagher doesn't know or care what a 'wonderwall' is?!

CordwainerBird · 03/07/2026 12:09

the80sweregreat · 03/07/2026 11:58

I like the song, but not for a National anthem.

Yeah, this. If you’re being serious, which I don’t think you are, the lyrics are not relevant to a national anthem.

Pinklightning · 03/07/2026 12:10

Jesus Christ. No.

MollyDigby1988 · 03/07/2026 12:11

Actually for scotland surely "i would walk 500 miles..." but if im being serious id much prefer calidonia 🥹
Regardless Flower of Scotland is rousing and beautiful
But of England want a crappy brit pop anthem that doesnt even make sense crack on!

paulinespecial · 03/07/2026 12:13

Only if it’s the Mike Flowers Pops version

Any1ForTennis · 03/07/2026 12:13

Probably not the right choice but the current anthem is so miserable.

Most of ours are - Swing Low Sweet Chariot & Flower O'Scotland are just as miserable. Yes, I'm Scottish btw.

Land of hope and glory is the best of the bunch.

(Not saying the above are all officially recognised as anthems but they are used in a similar way)

(Sorry not familiar with Wales or NI so can't comment on those).

Who is “our”? England?

Yes.

How has this confused you? If you read the post, which isn't very long, the OP says instead of, " God Save..."

I don't know why she didn't write, The King and complete the title but surely- if you put your thinking hat on for a second-this big clue would have saved you from asking.

Just in case my post renders you puzzled, I'll tell you that the poster means England and is referring to the English national anthem, which is called, God Save the King.

HTH.

ChocolateSqueezyyogurts · 03/07/2026 12:14

I like Oasis and have been a fan since the 90s, but I really dont like this song. Nothing makes me cringe more than a group of people all joining in to a chorus of Wonderwall 🤢

JoyousOpalLemur · 03/07/2026 12:14

Gotta be Jerusalem

Mochudubh · 03/07/2026 12:16

Wonderwall is a dirge.

I think Billy Connolly may have been on to something with the theme from The Archers.

I can never understand why Scotland the Brave is always so overlooked as Scotland's potential National Anthem. OK, the lyrics are a bit shortbread* tin but that's no different to a lot of National Anthems.

*Insert national delicacy as appropriate.

ThonsDesperate · 03/07/2026 12:17

Yeah, go for it. But I’m Irish🤣

Bloody awful song.

the80sweregreat · 03/07/2026 12:19

Picking the lyrics apart, I just think that he means she is his muse and he loves her a lot. Or he did once anyway!

SirChenjins · 03/07/2026 12:19

You're kidding, right?! Wonderwall is a whinefest of wailing misery - if I could consign it to the dustbin of time I would.

Port1aCastis · 03/07/2026 12:21

Jerusalem would be good but not wonderwall ffs
