A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions, or controversies here. Think of it as neighbors (I'm a Yank) chatting over the garden fence or having a cup of tea while the kids play together. Everyone is welcome.

It will be calming for all.

First parent-teacher meeting done! ✅
🤗

MrsSPenguinz · 12/09/2026 11:32

Enjoy the soups @sproutsandparsnips

Well done on first parent-teacher meeting @Mumtobabyhavoc

Did a drawing of the radius corner worktop for the worktop company who will now make it. Have heard back from second plumber, he said he had been away for a week. DH got the sanding finished in the small room. Made aubergine parmigiana which we had last night. I then had some Kelly's clotted cream ice cream.

DH slept in late and needed to wake him at 10.15am as he had coffee with his friend planned. He is now having that coffee with him.

Will do some work in house or garden later today with DH. Nice weather here still at 23C but also want to keep work on bathroom /laundry room project.

MrsSPenguinz · 12/09/2026 19:42

Did 3 hours on the downstairs bathroom / laundry room project with DH in the end as well as starting to research jacuzzi baths.

Have had a bath, a cup of tea and chocolate buttons and will shortly have steak, mash and veg for dinner.

Hope everyone had a good Saturday.

I felt like death from Wednesday evening on, Thursday was a blur, and I got a horrible earache that kept me from sleep and raged on all day Friday, with a very sore throat. I dragged myself to an urgent care place after work, and came away with a diagnosis of ear infection plus strep throat. I was so relieved it was something that could be treated. Picked up my AB prescription later in the evening, took the first dose of twenty, and had a great night's sleep. I feel so much better, and I think the last remnants of my sinus infection from the previous weekend d are finally over too. Eighteen more pills to go!

MissConductUS · 13/09/2026 12:58

I'm so glad you're feeling better, Math. An ear infection and strep! What AB did they give you?

Penguinz, you certainly have a lot going on with the house these days. We had considered having the deck painted over the summer, but never got around to sorting it. After living through the kitchen remodel last year, I guess we've had our fill of contractors in the house.

Havoc, how did the parent-teacher conference go? Does Havoc like school and the teacher?

Not much new here. It's pouring rain this morning, so we're skipping church. DH has started a new project doing volunteer IT consulting for a non-profit. They're in Virginia, so he'll do it all online. His former boss is on the charity's board and asked him to help.

I've preordered an iPhone 18 Pro (not the foldable one, just the normal-sized phone). I'll trade in my iPhone 15, which was worth a lot more than I thought, so I'm only paying about half the retail price for the new one. The battery life on the old phone was degrading, and I'd really like a better camera. It should arrive this Friday.

I'm going to get rid of most of the plants on the deck next weekend. They're not getting enough sunlight to thrive.

Cooking a big massive lazy cheat of Hunters Chicken in the slow cooker !

So lazy !
Wrapped the chicken in bacon.
Mixed together some passata , BBQ sauce (smokey ! From a squeezy bottle !)
Some chilli flakes ...and token S&P .

Ohh and I chopped some carrots to sit the chicken on !

I have some Fajita mix to mix with my small potatoes that I will cook later in the air fryer .

Still getting use to my lovely air fryer .
And of course I have not read all the instructions !
I am just winging it .

But I think I will will par boil the potatoes, then season , then AF for 20? mins ?

Ohh and I have tender stem broccoli as well well.
Unsure whether to pop them in the SC a bit later ...or just quickly boil them up .

Going to then do an experimental soup with leftovers !
I have bacon , passata, carrots and potatoes !!

Might dry up some leks with the pots.
They are frozen so not sure if I can put them in uncooked

Enjoy the Hunters chicken and soup @bizzey

Oak worktop for the laundry room has been cut and made and DH will collect tomorrow.

We have been researching jacuzzi baths for DS and I phoned to ask why one was considerably more expensive than another one when they appeared the same spec and both made in Britain. The company didn't know either. They did however say that if we get a light it will be installed. There's a 4 week wait for them to be made. I want to order it for DS now but DH says he's struggling to think 4 weeks ahead. DH is just off to his piano lesson.

I cleaned the downstairs bathroom more, the ceiling, walls and tiles as I will hopefully repaint it later in the week. DH painted the laundry room a second time and finished the paint. Have been in touch with electrician to arrange a provisional date. We haven't had any workmen in since last September when we got the upstairs bathroom done and this time we are doing most of the work ourselves and learning as we go in some cases so just get electrician and plumber in as needed for odd half day. DS is leaving the downstairs bathroom wide open so seems keen for us to renovate. He wants his jacuzzi bath is my theory and the washing machine and drier moved. Next is tiling the laundry room. We have old flooring up apart from tape round the edge and everything needed to lay it.

Penguins, you really are doing a lot of work! 🙌

I'm just having some lovely, toasted, seeded whole wheat sourdough with copious butter then guacamole and topped with tomato and a bit of salt while waiting for laundry to finish.
