We've been on water restrictions for months. It's like this every year now. This past winter was particularly dry with very little snow.

Well the National phone alert was scary. OH and I just looked at each other wondering what was happening. The wildfires over here are very worrying. I’ve never seen anything like them. It was terrible to see how quickly and ferociously the houses burnt. It’s been anything but dull and unexciting here.

i did have a Norwegian scone this afternoon, with apricot conserve. It was very tasty, slightly lighter than the English one, although bigger. I wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference, or even heard of it before today.

Slept with my fan on last night in the bedroom and it was better than the previous night; I struggled to get to sleep in the heat and found it hard to breathe, which was worrying.

Hope people are managing to keep cool in this heat. We had curry tonight and I think that worked well in this heat.

The alert scared me too @Umanresources I thought we were at war as it was so loud and was quite relieved it was just a don't start fires message.

We don't have any water restrictions here apart from a hosepipe ban though you are obviously supposed to be sensible. I saw 70% of France has water restrictions not that surprised as its been quite a bit hotter than here.

We had a chicken Caesar salad with mango which was really nice, we have lots of tropical fruit available. Our farm shop hasn't been able to offer fruit or veg boxes so far this year and hope they survive. I then had some chocolate buttons which wasn't sensible in 34C heat but they were nice and had a cup of tea with them. It told me half a pack (20g) was 107 but who restricts themselves to half of a 40g pack.

DH is currently watering the garden with a watering can. In theory we get rain on Wednesday and temp drops from tomorrow but the rain keeps getting cancelled. I think they must use a maths based model on previous averages until it gets closer to the date. Though am hopeful it will rain next week.

It seems to be our normal now, Penguins. I can remember wildfires becoming a major issue 10 years ago.

My eyes are red and very irritated from the wildfire smoke. I was chatting with someone today who said same "despite wearing sunglasses." 🤔
I'm also so bloody tired I've just lied down for a nap at 6pm. Baby has joined me. Havoc is resisting and has built a blanket fort in the living room. My mum is having a snack.

Watching the news here about the wildfire devastation in Europe and then a headline about wildfires in central England.

The smoke from the fires just a few hours away has settled here again and the sun looks like an orange ball. Took the pic at 7:45pm, about 45 mins before sunset. Compare with the pic from last week . 😭😷

Another week has passed and the trench at the bottom of my alley is still waiting for whatever the public works department has in mind for it

We've had high humidity and repeated downpours and intense storms all week.

I have finally cleared out my cupboard of doom after years of it being my secret hoarding place. I can finally use it.

Math, the terrible storms in Chicago were on the news here a few nights ago. Did you lose power?

We have had a lot of rain as these storms came through over the last two weeks, so there are no water restrictions here and, thankfully, no wildfire smoke. The weather has been lovely, and DH and I have been spending a few hours a day at the town pool on most days.

DS is with us this weekend, but will be visiting uni friends in Massachusetts next weekend.

Penguinz, we love a Caesar salad and have been having one most nights with dinner. We went to the county-owned CSA farm this week and picked up lettuce and tomatoes. They gave us the onions for free. I was shocked to find that I still have $145 to spend before they close in early November. We'll have to shop there more often.

I am sat here in the interval of an youth performance of Les Miserable.
My favorite show ever but could never afford London prices.
We are a small theater where DS 1 lives.

I m in bits already ...and I don't have a child in the cast !

The cast are all 19 and under .
They are amazing .

Incredible talent from this young cast.

I have got all 3 boys and a gf as well !!
They have gone to bar.

Waiting for them to bring my wine back to me and some extra tissues.

Very stressful morning with trains being cancelled at last minute and stuff.

But going out for a meal afterwards .

I wish I had brought some eye makeup with me to touch up on !

Doubt if there is any left on my eyes at the moment !!

It's weird looking at it for me and I was there.

When we had the wildfire smoke a few weeks ago it turned the sunlight slightly pinkish red. I guess it must be the way it refracts sunlight.

DS was with us last weekend. He asked me to take him shopping for some new work clothes, so the two of us went off to the nearest town that had some nice department stores. We went to Macy's and Abercrombie & Fitch (which is really posh) and found him some nice things. The prices were better than I was expecting, and the quality was very good.

I was in the kitchen last night after dinner and spotted some visitors in the front yard. They looked quite healthy and well fed.

Managed to get my rescue spaniel properly groomed for the first time. I have a mobile groomer who comes to the house. \Heidi (the dog) was quite good. She wriggled a lot, but didn't bite or bark. I've got enough fur to make another dog, and she looks very sleek (and a bit thinner than I thought she was!)

I’m trying to think of something remarkably unremarkable that’s happened today. I know, I told my PT that I had a tummy upset and couldn’t make our session this evening. I’ve been going to him for 7 years, I used to enjoy, I still do when I go, but I work FT time and it’s hard to have the energy to go weekly. I send my young adults whenever I can but they weren’t available today. I came home and slept for 1 hour instead.

My unexciting news today, I was dozing in my chair and dropped my iPad on my foot and cut my toe, which bled quite a bit. I can’t bend because of my hips, so I had to,dab it with a tissue held in my grabber! My OH hasn’t been well, so he spent yesterday and this morning in bed. He put a plaster on it when he got up, but it’s twice the length of my toe 😂
My grandsons and DiL are coming here tomorrow, so I am very excited about that and I’ve just put in my Tesco order for tomorrow afternoon. They love helping to empty the delivery boxes (and checking out the treats).

The rain kept getting cancelled here too @MrsSPenguinzbut we finally had some and more to come. All rugby cancelled last weekend because ground too hard but hope may go ahead this weekend. Friendlies so good, relaxed atmosphere.

Med appt downtown this afternoon. Took Havoc. Stopped for fried chicken special after as a treat. It was two legs for $2.50, which is about £1.33. Also, showed Havoc the gym I go to. Havoc was quite impressed. 😀

Very tired today as couldn't fall asleep until 4am and was up getting dc breakfast at about 7:45. Went back to bed for about 2 hours of very light sleep.

@Mumtobabyhavoc you put me to shame. It’s taken me 3 days to clean the bathroom. It wasn’t that dirty, it’s just that I can’t stand for too long when I was wiping window sill. Half done one day, other half done the next. I also had to clean out the trolley which holds towels and extra toiletries. I enjoy sorting things. I can’t believe your sleeping times. Today it was 4 am to 7.45, according to my smart watch! How weird is that?

My GS1 called me last night again. “Granny I had to see you to tell you I’m so excited to be coming tomorrow. I thought we could have a Portuguese day where I can teach you some Portuguese language.”
I’m up for that. He’s a very hard taskmaster and tells me my mouth should be making this shape, not that and how some words are shortened, so he gave the example of people saying twenny instead of twenty!

it’s going to be a fun couple of weeks. We’ve decided on the meal for tonight and he’s going to cut the vegetables. My son was listening and asked that I send him back with all his fingers intact!

OH is up and about today, feeling better than yesterday thank goodness.
