A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions, or controversies here. Think of it as neighbors (I'm a Yank) chatting over the garden fence or having a cup of tea while the kids play together. Everyone is welcome.

I do wish they'd standardise them. My general waste is green, the recycling bin is black, and the garden waste (that I pay for) is brown.

Haha. Ours are different (and the same as Penguinz, I think?). Black for non-recyclable general waste, green for garden waste, blue for glass, cardboard, tins etc. These are collected on a schedule, so every other week in various combinations.
We also have a small green 'caddy' for kitchen waste - things like vegetable peelings or non-usable scraps - that we line with biodegradable bags. That gets collected every week.

I regularly visit family in another council area and their glass/cardboard etc bin is brown. They don’t have a food scraps one at all and are told to throw any food waste in the non-recyclable rubbish bin! 🥴 Every council is supposed to collect food waste now but some are very much dragging their heels.

(This is riveting stuff, yes? 😂)

Well we don't have bins in my area !
We just put the bags out.
We get given the recycling bags and can order more or collect from the Town Hall ,but the are very stingy and only give 2 rolls at time !!

I use to order extra to mams house and take it !

We were going through a lot of recycling when the boys all lived here what with stuff from school, junk mail, pizza boxes , Amazon boxes , pizza boxes , takeaway boxes and bags , pizza boxes ....
You get my drift 😂😂😂..
Ohh and all the milk cartons!!

Ohh and did I mention the pizza boxes !!

We do have weekly collections though of both and food waste in a little brown caddy.

We've just had the most spectacular thunderstorm I've ever seen. It lasted a good three hours. I was out with the kids in a few places and driving home actually made me quite nervous as massive bolts of lightning were streaking across the sky all around and overhead and the rain was so bad I could hardly see the road. Apparently, there were 139 cloud to ground strikes and some flash flooding - I quickly deviated from my route when I saw a river flowing at an intersection I was approaching. The worst of it lasted about an hour during our drive across town to get home and the lightning was just constant.
Both kids were scared, Havoc especially.

Absolutely, FML. As it says on the tin, everyone is welcome. What's mundanely new with you? I hope your handle is just a bit of hyperbole.

Havoc, so sorry you had to drive through that. Storms like that are bad when you're safe at home. On the road, they're nightmares. Years ago, when driving DS back from uni near Boston, we spent about two hours driving through a storm like that.

Re the boring bin news, I'm always surprised at how long you in the UK have to wait between bin collections. We get three collections a week - household trash (including food waste), mixed plastic and glass recycling, and paper recycling.

DS joined us for dinner on Friday and then drove up to Boston (about a four to five hour trip, depending on traffic) Saturday morning to visit one of his friends from uni.

Yesterday was nice and we went out for an early dinner. it's pouring rain this morning, but i might be able to get out to walk later.

My boring news is, I had my left ear re pierced yesterday as it closed up and now I’m so happy to be able to wear earrings again. I have my late Nan’s pearl earrings and I’m looking forward to being able to wear them again.

Its been DHs birthday and we got cakes yesterday and had afternoon tea in the garden with the silkies, had no idea they loved scones and they were singing. We went to Sandringham today, went round house and gardens and had Sunday lunch there and then had cream tea in our garden. Also started DHs red velvet cake which we got as its DS favourite and he was there in a millisecond. He also ate 12 macarons in the night. We had small slices of red velvet cake with a cup of tea. DD has phoned DH from Austria.

I like red velvet cake, too. But, I'm very particular about the cream cheese icing: not too thick and not too sweet.

The red velvet cake we get from the bakers the cream cheese isn't too sweet but it is quite thick which means all of us apart from DS will just have one slice. DS could eat a whole big cake and still stay stick thin

DD is having a lovely time in Austria but had quite a journey there. Decided to take 2 planes to save £200. First plane delayed 5 hours, connection missed though as linked free on next one so waited for that then that could not land in Austria and landed in Germany instead. But she's there now with her friends and climbing mountains and swimming in lakes. The friends cycled there.

The adventures of travelling. 😀 Good learning experience with missed connections etc. Makes you think on your feet. I once had to deal with luggage left behind in Amsterdam after arriving in Greece in 40c heat 😵‍💫 my plane struck by lightning flying across S Korea (frightening!) ✈️⚡️ and our plane circling Bellingham and almost out of fuel due to severe fog and being unable to land (very scary, ended up landing at a private airfield and sharing a taxing with two other people back to B'ham after a bunch of us had to unload luggage from the plane. 💪
(I organized that part! 😂😂😂)

3 collections a week @MissConductUS?! Our recycling (which we have to separate into tins and plastic, paper/cardboard, glass and food waste is collected every week and general waste and garden waste every fortnight. It varies between councils though.

The washing machine is not working properly - I have to drain the drum to get it to spin. I diagnosed a burnt out dra8n8ng pump and decided not worth the outlay to fix. We have a new one arriving on Wednesday. Ironically, as soon as I ordered it the old one started working……..

DS exam results were very good, solid not stellar and he really worked for them so we are all happy.

It's all about the icing, isn't it? I make icing about 50/50 butter/cream cheese with vanilla and just enough icing sugar to sweeten it without making it sweet iykwim

I've got a load of laundry on;
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Prime keeping the kids' attention;
kids are finishing off the cappuccino froyo;
I'm scrolling and eating lemon-blueberry cake from Costco;
and the wash just finished.

There is a fire on hill behind us. Not as close as it looks but I think a few houses on side of hill and a care home may be evacuated 😢

DS stopped by for dinner last night on his way home from Boston. He had a nice time visiting his uni friends.

I had a dental implant fail a couple of weeks ago. It's going to be replaced for free (it was only a year old), but I have to go in for a scan my regular dentist can't do, so he's sending me to my other dentist, who is much farther away. I shouldn't moan about it; it's about a 40-minute drive each way.

The weather is lovely here. It would have been a lovely day to go to the pool, but my dental appointment prevents that.

As we have ordered a new summerhouse to replace our 40 year old shed we don't need some paints etc I ordered so yesterday I noticed we had 30 days to return them and DH drove them back. Refund through today. Had a Toby carvery which DS and I love.

Today we had the fill the black bin challenge as the bin men come tomorrow. So cleaned the kitchen and emptied the bin, cleaned the larder and found a few more things for the bin, cleaned downstairs bathroom and found things for the bin. Then went outside and DH cut up old shed gutter and old shed wood and that has also gone in black bin. I also cleaned silkies coop and cleared leaves. Took us about 3 hours.

Had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast and then several cups of tea and chocolate buttons. Added 2 shelves to our summerhouse order. Did the accounts. Black bin is out.

@MissConductUS@Mumtobabyhavocthe fire is pretty much out. Still smoking but the fire brigade say under control now and no damage to property.
Livestock and horses had to be moved away.
i cleaned all the greasy plate racks and plates in the kitchen today with DS’s help.

Schools have reopened here. Streets all over town have been dug up.

I returned from an errand a little bit away this evening and it took me twice as long as it should have because I had to detour several tines to avoid closed sections of streets.

The cicadas are deafening every evening. It's a glorious summer sound.

Math, does school start before Labour Day there?
