Amazon delivery’s no longer knocking on my door - just dump it on the step and leave

Is anyone having issues with Amazon deliveries where they now just plink the parcel on your front door step- don’t even knock- then bugger off?

it’s now happening every time (so say my last 30 deliveries) and it’s really pissing me off.
could it be the drivers in my area only or is this a nationwide thing?

I know they’ll be under pressure to get their deliveries done but dumping and running is so frustrating.
it’s only a matter of time until one of my parcels is stolen.

Don’t blame the delivery drivers. You’ve no idea how much pressure they’re under. That’s why Amazon CONSTANTLY advertise for delivery drivers. The work conditions are atrocious.
Blame Amazon.

I actually prefer this as a mum who has usually just got a child to sleep/for a nap 🤣

Both Evri and Amazon don’t knock, but I have a designated safe place set up on both, and if I know I’m due a parcel I’m usually tracking it…Amazon are actually really good at providing the real time map tracking when they get closer I’ve found. Also I get an email instantly from both companies when they’ve left it.

Same. Luckily I live in a quiet cul de sac with little chance of anything being stolen. I would never order anything high value from them though for this reason.

im not asking the driver to write me a poem or perform a short play on my doorstep.

Same except they drop it off around the corner at an almost identical address to mine (think same name and number but road instead of close). Only thing is, that house is now empty so I end up having to claim a lost parcel all the time if they post it! Driving me mad.

Give them a break. They don’t get a lunch break and currently have over 250 parcels to deliver a day. If they don’t get them all done they get money deducted from their pay. (Dh does this job) and it’s absolute hell

But how long does it take to bang on a door- even that’s better than leaving it silently so at least I know to go to the door for it

No one has to work there. If their work conditions are horrible why isn’t their Union fighting their cause?

Mine do too but it's in the delivery notes to leave in our porch or behind bin. They always choose the latter.

Ours are thrown over the gate. We know they’ve been by the loud crashes just after tea time!!

I had this at xmas- it was a tv that was in the original packaging. It was stolen (of course)

I live in a block of flats at the top of a big hill. Our bin store is at the bottom of the hill, out of sight of us but in full sight of passers by. Amazon drivers often leave parcels there as they can't be arsed to walk up the hill. Every single time I request a refund, whether the parcel is there or not. I hoped this would discourage them from doing it but nope, they still do.

It certainly doesn't become your problem just because they have a photo of the parcel on your step. It is the retailer's responsibility to get the parcel to you. Tell them you haven't received it. Every time.

It varies, depending on the whim of the driver I guess. Sometimes knocking loud enough to wake the dead, other times put inside the porch, others left on the doorstep.

Yes , this has happened to me so many times and sometimes parcels have been stolen.
They send a message saying handed to resident when I have been indoors waiting for parcel to be delivered or they say left in a safe place/ porch.
I do not have a porch and I do not have a safe place !

Sometimes message says could not deliver as no one home when they haven’t rang doorbell/knocked on door.
when I receive that message I immediately go out my front door and there is nobody walking away from my door with parcel !

That happened when I had cancelled an event to wait in for parcel that was a present for my son whose birthday was the next day.
I called Amazon fuming and asked to be put through to a manager to make a complaint about the service I was receiving.
manager assured me parcel would definitely be delivered that day.
2 hours later I received a message saying parcel had been delivered to my ‘neighbour ‘

Jon at the Co op told me that Amazon drivers drop off 30/40 parcels to them daily as they can’t be bothered to drop them off at peoples addresses and just say that no one was in!

I’ve stopped ordering from Amazon as it’s not worth the hassle of constantly having to call to complain after waiting in all day and missing events or having to report parcels stolen and going through the rigmarole of taking a photo of my door etc. to finally receiving a refund or in some case a gift card for value of item added to my account 😠

They sometimes knock, but more often than not, they don't.
But they immediately send me a delivery notification email which pops up on my phone, which I prefer because if I'm upstairs I wouldn't hear them knock anyway.

Yep. Or open the door themselves! Or put it in the garage (down the road)!

I think they just expect customers to be as high-tech and efficient as they are in streamlining the whole operation: that is, instead of alerting you 'old-school' by knocking on your door, they automatically send you an email to inform you.

I personally prefer them to just leave items in front of the door and not bother me, so I can track the delivery at my leisure; but I realise we're fortunate in living in an OK area with an enclosed front that isn't visible from the road. I completely get how it would be very different if you have a front door that opens directly on to a very busy pavement - although even there, you can track your delivery and be ready for it when it arrives. At least it's not like some of the other companies that tell you it will be delivered on Thursday 'some time between 8am and 8pm' and gives you no further clues until the moment it arrives.

We have a purpose-designed lockable parcel box on the wall, which no more than about 3% of delivery people ever use - and even they never lock it.

I suppose their thinking is that, if householders don't always check in there regularly, they may well miss it and complain that it wasn't delivered; or there's the added deniability of people lying that it wasn't delivered to claim a fraudulent refund - and if they get caught out, they can always blame the delivery person and say "Well, I had no indication that they'd shoved it in there". If you cannot fail to see it when you open your door, that protects them from both of those scenarios.

I do wish they had a few more available and plausible options for the delivery people, though, so they don't just have to find a 'best fit' explanation of where they left it - like 'handed to resident' or the baffling (for a private household) 'left at reception'.

I find it depends on the individual Amazon courier who is delivering it. Most will knock or ring the doorbell and just leave it on the doorstep (which is fine), but in the last few months there is one who doesn't even bother to knock. A few weeks ago he just left the box on the doorstep, I had no idea he'd even delivered it & it got absolutely soaked by torrential rain. I only realised it was there when I opened the door to go out. Quite often DH will get home after me and find a parcel on the door mat that wasn't there when I got home, but no one has knocked/rang the bell even though I've been home for a while.

All delivery people do this where I am, unless the delivery specifically needs signing for. Fine by me - means it gets delivered if I'm out, or otherwise occupied.

I think they are trying to make the delivery service so bad to force people to use lockers etc so then they won’t have to even have/pay delivery drivers and Jeff can buy another super yacht.
