Enjoyed a quiet skinny dip at the local pool during the heat

I just had the best evening ever. I went to my local pool and there was no one in the sauna area so I went swimming naked and totally alone. It was over 40°C here today and it was bliss

That pool looks tiny, but maybe its the distance the pic was taken at. Is there room to swim or do you just bob about in one place?

BitOutOfPractice · 08/07/2026 14:42

So you followed the social norms where you live, but thought you’d post, without any context, on a (primarily) UK forum where it is not the norm, to see how repressed and outraged we all are, and demonstrate how progressive and liberal you are.

Erm ok, well done. Glad you enjoyed it.

I’ve done it many times. Imagine that, a Brit as uninhibited as you?! It is nice. But not at my local Essex leisure centre thanks.

This is the UK. Some of the new saunas that have started over the last few years I am aware have tried clothes free or clothes optional sessions. The behaviour of a few men has led to some being changed to require swimwear.

That is actually really sad. At the pool I was at they have a women’s day on Tuesdays. So no men allowed in the sauna. I have had 2 uncomfortable moments with men at the sauna, but sorted it. But only happened when I was there with my BF. Not when I’ve been alone. 🤣

Totally understand if you come from Essex.

Or anywhere in the UK where the cultural norm is not to swim naked in public pools. @BitOutOfPractice is right in what she says.

Ilovegermany · 08/07/2026 14:47

Maybe my head said let me see how people react because it is not the norm in the UK. And also because I also felt a bit wrong in my head because of what we are brought up with in the UK. Wanted a bit of a debate. But when you have a crazy heatwave it is a lovely feeling. So maybe I will head off there now.

Oh that’s nice of you. Did you enjoy that little snipe as well? At least we have the sea here.

As it happens, I don’t come from Essex. But I do live there. And the people are much nicer than you.

Was not trying to say I was liberal or progressive. I just no longer understand many cultural norms in the UK and why it is that way. I don’t understand the fear of naked bodies any more and why people cannot just accept bodies.

What sort of debate did you want? Confused Countries have different cultural norms, surely you must be aware that this particular one is not specific to the UK, nor does it mean that countries where it's not the norm are somehow lesser for it?

Get yourself a diary OP…and write in that!

Diaries should definitely be brought back. Not every thought should be brought to the public.

Oh come off it. You have repeatedly been all faux amazed at how uptight British people are about bodies and how wonderfully free and wonderful It is in Germany.

I don’t have much experience of Germany. I have lots of experience of the Netherlands where they are equally happy to strip off but are far far more uptight about other things than Brits.

I had a fatty dip in the sea last year. 🙂

I’m tempted to have a fatty dip this year

EwwStew · 08/07/2026 14:54

You do you.

Personally, my level of vag coverage has never really had any bearing at all on how much I enjoy a swim.

Ilovegermany · 08/07/2026 14:54

It was just interesting to see the reactions. I just no longer understand UK cultural things sometimes. I remember the first time my BF asked me to go to the pool and sauna and how I felt. He is German and for me the first time I went out of my comfort zone. Now I accept this is how it is here , I realise how good it is to feel this and not have anyone judging.

I don't 'fear' a naked body.

I just prefer a society where my consent has to be obtained before the sight of a strange one is inflicted upon me.

What other things are they more uptight about? I’ve spend some time in the Netherlands and have done good friends from there and never felt this.

we are born naked. Should we all ask for „consent“ before we go in the pool. Even with a swimming costume on you are almost naked.

I love Holland, I love Dutch people. I have Dutch family and friends. But they are definitely more uptight and serious than Brits. Much less likely to laugh at themselves. And I know German people often share those characteristics. Talking in massive generalisations just like you have done about the prudish and ridiculously shy British people you’ve described throughout your comments.

HTH

Same. I also simply prefer not to be naked in front of people I don't know.

I also don't believe for a second that German's don't judge each other's bodies on some level.

@CamilleBeauchamp
I’ve got a sign in my kitchen that says “I don’t skinny dip, I chunky dunk!” 😆

I don't mind swimming trunks, bikinis or bathers.

Quite a bit different than being an unwilling audience member to bobbing flaccid cocks and flashed arseholes.

If you enjoy it, then I am glad you are somewhere where it is socially acceptable to see and provide such sights. Good for you.

Personally, I prefer a society where those sorts of vistas are only for your willing nearest and dearest (and medical professionals).

Really? Not the experience I have had. A good friend of mine from UK is married to a Dutch man and can’t say I’ve ever found him uptight.

Maybe my German BF is an exception and all the people I have become friends with at the sauna.

Not every German loves to let it all hang out. I have quite a few Deutsch friends who really prefer not to. They remain in the cosies-on area with me while everyone else goes off to the textilfrei area.

Some people are happy to be nude in front of others, others aren't, Germany is more accepting of this but not everyone feels the same way. And these aren't uptight people, they are just like I am, private about nakedness. Of course you are likely to meet like-minded people at the sauna - the rest of us are somewhere else.
