More to cast doubt on the legitimacy of future elections

Fundamentally it really makes little difference who wins an election.

It makes a lot of difference who believes who won an election.

dapsnotplimsolls · 04/07/2026 16:34

Vance is speaking now. I'll pass.

Well you can't blame some of them if they think it's a celebration of 🍊💩 given that he's put his fecking name on everything.

...nearly half of Americans (46%) don't know that America's 250th anniversary commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.
This civic ignorance extends to basic governance: Nearly 60% do not know the main purpose of the U.S. Constitution is to limit government power, and do not know why the colonies declared independence from Great Britain.
Furthermore, the report highlights deep anxieties about the future of American liberty...

Thanks to all for the USA birthday greetings. On behalf of all sane Americans, we appreciate your good wishes.

I know this was quite a few posts ago, but I can't get over Scrotus saying he was the only POTUS to have a street named for him. What a maroon! There are any number named after JFK all over the world, not to mention numerous ones named for FDR. Plus a quite a few streets named for other POTUSes here and there across the globe.

And I'm not even going to start on the 1000s (probably 10s of 1000s) of streets here named after various POTUSes.

Sigh, that's my rant for the day. Time to get ready to join our local celebrations and later on eat hot dogs & apple pie, then watch fireworks.

Nobody tell him about the states and towns named after POTUSes. I'd hate to give him ideas.

Shall we tell him about Trumpton?

Not to mention the states named after kings (and queens) of England and France. Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland... And one private citizen: Pennsylvania. I won't get onto the towns, but Jamestown springs to mind, along with Williamsburg.

Yep. 100% this.

countrygirl99 · 04/07/2026 18:00

I spotted an Abraham Lincoln Library in Derbyshire this week.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/07/2026 18:05

If Trump endowed libraries he could be another Carnegie and have things named for him all over the place. But he won't.

Maybe a chain of Donald J. Trump penitentiaries ?

dapsnotplimsolls · 04/07/2026 18:42

Think it's a bit too early yet - he's not due on until this evening and it's only 2pm in DC atm

Weather's not looking great in DC - still 39/40 degrees [doesn't really cool down til well after midnight] and there's a thunderstorm forecast for 6pm DC time

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/07/2026 19:01

AnyDayNowChuckJacksonNSoul · 04/07/2026 19:03

And hit him in the nuts⚡

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/07/2026 19:07

If it can't be fatal I'd settle for the throat. Wipe out his vocal cords permanently.

(It isn't always fatal. I did once know someone who had been struck by lightning twice. – And it was on the same block of road on Brighton seafront each time.)
