Feeling nostalgic I decided to write a list of my favourite TV programmes from my childhood. I'm sure I've missed loads of the ones I used to watch. But here's what I remember, in case anyone's interested. 😊

In no particular order.

Champion the Wonder Horse
Flipper
Casey Jones
Daktari
Blue Peter
Crackerjack
Vision On
Ask the Family
Top of the Pops
Top of the Form
Jukebox Jury
Robinson Crusoe
The Flashing Blade
The White Horses
Belle and Sébastien
Follyfoot
The Little House on the Prairie
Top Cat
Scooby Doo

You’re the only person I’ve met who knows about Daktari! My first crush was one of his assistants-can’t remeber his name, but the actor was called Hari Rhodes.

It’s obviously something to do with being a certain age. I, too, grew up with Clarence the cross eyed lion and Judy.

I forgot Heidi!

And does anyone remember the slightly odd things that used to come out at Christmas? Like The Box of Delights?

I want to yodel now! 🎶

This thread has brought back a memory id forgotten about until now🙊

My first rude dream ever was Nicholas Ball in Hazell

I loved Porridge, Rising Damp and the Liver Birds

I loved the 7 Up documentaries and believe another is coming up soon.

Serious programmes were the Naked Civil Servant, and I Claudious, which was brutal for its time

The 7Up documentaries are just iconic ❤️

AlexandraImogenSloppe · 16/06/2026 11:01

I remember also they’d show old films in the mornings aimed at kids.
I remember the old black and white Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan films, one of which was so horrifically violent I’m still bothered by it 50 years later!

ThunderThunderThunderThunderCats · 16/06/2026 11:25

@Cerbonny Yep, born in 1978.

Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds. What a theme tune! Loads already mentioned too.

My kids loved Dogtanian! I agree, it has a great theme song! I now find myself singing it! 😂 🐕

@Hotafternoon I remember that I used to watch Quick, Before they Catch Us with my older sister - but the only thing about it I actually recall is the theme song. I think it was about a group of young people, but I've no idea what the basic premise of it was!

Do you remember The Newcomers? It was soap opera about the Cooper family. I remember the son was called Lance and the father was Ellis. That's all I can recall! It would have been broadcast in the mid to late 1960s.

Hartbeat. I posted so many pictures but none of them were ever good enough for the gallery.

There was also something quite spooky on cbbc in the 80s. Don't remember any details but remember being creeped out by it. I think it was called Moon Dial. I hope somebody else remembers it.

Cerbonny · 16/06/2026 23:05

I've remembered a few more that I used to enjoy. These are not children's programmes but family viewing.

The Virginian
The High Chaparral
Paul Temple
Steptoe and Son
Whatever Happened to The Likely Lads

Yes, I remember The Moondial @HauntedRavioli.
Here’s the wiki link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moondial_(TV_serial)
I really enjoyed how eerie it was. I’m sure some of these series were repeated over the years as I’m sure I watched it more than once.
The Children of Greenknowe was also quite creepy with some ghostly/supernatural happenings. Do you remember that?

I had forgotten all about the children if green knowe, but I did watch it. Thanks for the link. Going to read it now and have a good old reminisce!

EDIT: how did I forget about minty? 8 year old me thought that was the most exotic name ever!

Ha ha, yes the theme is pretty much all I remember too, it was about young people but for the life of me, I've no idea what they did.

I remember the name The Newcomers but don't think I ever watched it.

I've remembered another programme I really liked, Catweasle (sp), one of our favourites on Sunday teatime I think. 😄

Adam Adamant!

Ah yes, I vaguely remember that one! He'd been somehow frozen and then came back to life 100 years later? Something like that?

Do you also remember Dee Time, with Simon Dee (or perhaps that should be Siiiiiiimon!)? He was very popular and then just seemed to fade into obscurity.

I was born in 1957
